**Official Asus A8N-SLI Premium Thread**

P.S. I have just read the manual with the mobo and it states that if i load the program " NVIDIA nTune " i can moniter my system and alter the clock/fsb/agp settings, also the voltage, fan control.
Now is this what i can use to o/c my system?
IAN

1.36v seems quite low but your temps are very high for this. What cpu cooler are you using. Might be worth checking its seated correctly. Also do you know anymore details about your memory. What is it?

Again sorry but havent got a clue what cooler is used all i can say is it says asus on the fan that is attatched to the cooler/mobo.
Is it normal for my cpu voltage to variate so often from 1.3280,then 1.344.then.1.3760.then,1.390 in that order, using asus qiuet and cool monitor program.
P.S. My memory is corsair 2GB twinX pro series?
Not being much help here am i :(
PPS. Noticed my mobo is always around 33c and cpu 36-42,Gpu 36-40 and thats just being on the net,

silly question time, getting one of these do i need to connect molex to board and do i need to connect 4 pin and 24 pin connections at same time :D

4 pin molex is for running sli. Theres a warning light that comes on if you need to run the extra power if you leave ez warning enabled in the bios. You need the 4pin power cable and its 24 pin on the motherboard but think you can run 20 pin if thats all your psu has but not sure - someone confirm pls

Thought your motherboard temps were at 50? The temps above are fine but sounds like you have stock heatsink on. The fluctuations in voltage isn't great but it does that on mine as well. Also sounds like you have the a8n-sli deluxe motherboard if you have a chipset fan on it.
Not too sure about your memory. Is it the 3rd one down on this page:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Corsair_XMS.html
Can you open your case and see what heatsink you have. If you do have stock heatsink then would recommend you changing it for a thermalright xp120 or a freezer 64 as your temps are going to go a lot higher once you add volts to your chip.

so do i plug the 24pin and the 4 pin in at the same time then, on my hyper 580 or is the 4 pin for people using 20 psu's

sorry but cant see anything in the instructions about it

Has anyone got over 270htt on this board?

Also what are peoples temps with this board. mine is 37 load with 1.55v which seems very low

No,
Mobo is deffo premium and ram is corsair 2GB TwinXMS PRO SERIESPC3200.
Heatsink is stock, not loud though its just the large rear and front fans that are loud, but i am thinking of getting Freezer 64PRO before i start o/cing,just on my arse broke and o/drawn to pay for this system,i mean the guy wanted £1400 for it on ebay, but got in in the end for £900 with 13 games and xp64 original disc.
Am hoping i manage 2 sell 2 of my m/bike's soon both on ebay at the moment,so i can get better cooling and o/clock it to death. :) P.S. The temp was 50,that was the fiest day i had the sytem and it was running for 8-10hours when i took the reading, but now seems to lowered a bit, i have just been playing SWAT4 for 2 hours and it was upto 44 when i checked straight after playing swat.
So freezer pro64 will be fitted as soon as i can spare £15-£20
IAN,

EDIT-- CPU now at 40c

freezer 64 pro is great cooler for the money. You should get a fairly good clock with that memory too. Read the o/c guides about how to start o/c your system.

just to add here:

i bought new components for base system of:

asus a8n premium
akasa 460 WATT PSU
athlon 3800 duel core on oem heatsink and fan
2x1 gb crucial cas 3 ram
hitachi sata II primary drive
radeon pci-e x800 256 meg gfx

running NO RAID on IDE or SATA, using add on PCI card to power my storage IDE HDDs.

first updated to 1009 BIOS

used hitachi programme to turn sata II on on the primary hdd.

installed winxp pro

SP2

latest nvidia nforce 4 drivers from nvidia.com

omega radeon drivers

system is running sweet, very fast clock for clock, extremely stable been up for nearly a week no issues what so ever. i have not tweaked BIOS other than turning off the bits im not using, not needed to or had to tweak windows much. didnt install any of the ASUS software, i assume its all bloatware anywhere.

PROBLEMS I HAD TO HELP OTHERS:

i could not get the system to POST properply with the aftermarket add on PCI IDE raid card in PCI slot 3, even though the manual stated that this slot wouldn't share an irq, i had to put it in slot 2 and it is happy as larry.

the stock cooler is very noisy, i thought being stock it would have low RPM and quiet as is usually the case but please bare that in mind :)

the temps are good and low, with closed antec case and 4 HDDs mobo temps are 32 tops and CPU tops out around 40 so very pleased in that department.

anyone recommend a quiet cheap cpu cooler for non overclocking ?? :)

bit strange that. I used my stock cooler while waiting for my heatsink to arrive and found it very quite. Maybe dual core have different stock heatsinks. Recommend a freezer 64 or thermalright xp120 with a vantec stealth or other quiet fan. Stealths are the best fans ive ever used and although they have a higher db rating i reckon its quieter than my akasa ultra quiet fan and it pushes more air than the akasa too.

Can someone recommend a h/s and cooler to fit this board pls. spec in sig.

I did buy an xp120 as thermalright said it would fit but they lied! The hs overhangs the first two memory slots, so you effectively can't run dual channel mode. SO.. can anyone recommend something that won't block the dimms?

xp120 does fit even if you run memory in slot a1 (closest to cpu). Is a bit tight but there is clearance. Some of the high modules such as corsair xms3200xl will have problems nut most standard sized modules are fine.

I couldnt get over 250 in slots a1 and b1 but as soon as using slots a2 and b2 it went up to 270 but cant get over that whatever i do. Have tried swapping board, memory and cpu and exactly the same so am guessing its a compatibility issue. Did you have to run 1.6v on the chipset for that?
