**- Official Asus P5K Thread -**

My E6600 is 20-hours Orthos stable at 377x8 and 8-hours (probably can do a lot more but i couldn't be bothered to continue stress testing) Orthos stable at 425x8: both equalling 3.4Ghz with 1.4625v (i think) CPU voltage. My CPU is the only thing holding my overclock back, it must be a lame stepping.

With my Crucial Ballistix, i can either have them set at: 471Mhz, 2T command rate and 4-4-4-12 timings, or 452Mhz, 1T command rate and 5-5-5-18 timings? Without benchmarking the 2 configurations, which do you think would be better?

I havent found ram speed or command rate that much of a bonus tbh , sure it will run super pi 0.5 of a second quicker but in my opinion just stick to stability as there is that much to be gained on super tight timings not like on the older amd platforms that is .

Alright, thank you. I think i'll actually lower the performance even more to increase stability; i might also be able to decrease the voltage a bit, too, since these Crucial Ballistix are known to die after a while.

new beta bios out, 0501
Think I'll try this over the weekend. Any idea what it fixes/improves?

I'm worried about the 'beta' tag TBO. Is it worth taking the additional risk for a BIOS update....

Ps, the latest ASUSupdate doesn't work in Vista TG :D

Has anybody noticed any performance gains--well, improvements in overclocking ability, mainly--when changing from the 0311 BIOS to something else? I don't know if it's worth me changing or not.

It's not exactly confidence-inspiring, is it?
Oh, and.. TBO?

P5K only,
I went straight from 0202 to 0414. (Using that windows tool  )

With new chipsets its always worth getting the latest version (from what I've read anyway)

Oh yeah, TBO... To Be Onest, Init! (or a typo)

I've got a random problem with my P5K Deluxe.

Once I've plugged a PSU into the board, the board powers up, then turns off after 1 second, then starts up, then turns off. In order to get it to work I have to reset the CMOS; then the board will work fine as long as I don't unplug the power cable

If I do un-plug the power cable from the PSU it stops working and it starts to turn off an on again. So another CMOS reset is required :(

Admittedly I can save the settings to the profiler thing, but it still means I have to open the case and reset the CMOS every time I unplug the power, which wouldn't be that often, but it's still very annoying.

The problem occurs with 2 power supplies and I've tried it outside the case on an anti-static bag, but the problem still pursists. I've flashed it to the latest BIOS too. The only thing I've yet to try is a new battery, but I doubt that will fix the problem.

RMA time?

Have you tried booting with just the minimum number of devices plugged into the mobo? Does the problem still happen then?

I would have said it was a PSU problem but since you have already tested out another PSU, it rules that out.

I would first try some other memory that is known to be working as I have seen lots of strange problems caused by memory problems. Also, might aswell try a new CMOS battery if you have got one lying about but I dont think the battery is causing the problem.

If using different memory or a new battery doesnt solve it, then yea I think I would RMA the P5K personally.

Mansize Tissue......do you have issues with the SATA ports on the board and the EVGA ACS3 KO cooler ???

Not at all. It obscures the top 4 SATA ports, so they can't be used with normal SATA cables. 2 of them, however, can be used with right-angled SATA cables. The bottom 2 SATA ports aren't blocked at all, so normal straight SATA cables can be used with these. So, basically, with my card only 4 out of the 6 SATA ports can be used; and all with the cables provided with the motherboard, too.

devious, did you mod the p5k for vdrop? 1.2 is pretty low for 3.6ghz so i guess not

nice clocks devious, im gonna give my 2160 a try later next week, got the same board here, well the pk5-e/wifi one :D

so many damn variants of the p5k

i was soo close to buy the premium deluxe one the other day but i only realised at the checkout it was ddr3 only, and one look at the memory prices.. i put it back

this is the only other asus p5k they had, the p5k-e/wifi so i took this instead

was a juggle between the abit ip35 pro and this but i chose this. I prefer the asus bios and it was £8 cheaper

Yeah i did the pencil mod, the difference before was around 0.08 between set and actual and it also drooped another 0.02 on load.

Now, i set 1.5375v and it shows 1.52v and no vdroop now, in fact it goes up 0.008 to 1.528 :)

Yeah lots of different ones, i have always gone for the top end deluxe models before but i thought I would try a budget overclock. Mobo was only £87 though OcUK have it at £103 now
