**- Official Asus P5K Thread -**

Been assembling my new rig today which uses a P5K-E.
Seems a nice little board, except for one thing that is ruining it so far. The rubbish positioning of the IDE slot.
In my eclipse the cable is only long enough to reach to the bottom 5.25 drive bay, and thats with the cable quite taught, absolute fat lot of good for getting any good wire management or getting the dvd drives where I want them
As if it couldn't get worse the cable is also in the way of the sata drives

Just enabled my on-board audio (i have an xfi) and I get exactly the same as you.

The mic/line-in works with the xfi set as the master (default) in/out but i have to set the on-board as the default to get the outputs to work (the xfi still works)

i unplugged the front audio panel connector and its enabled.
sadly, no sound comes out, i connect my speakers there, autodetect tells me what i connected there, i select speakers and it tells me to reconnect it to...the same colour jack...

Install the Soundmax drivers.

That is interesting, I kind of accepted it but I did start to think it was common when I read more had it. This only happens to me if I turn the PSU off at the back, but since I never do this (unless I am of course changing something inside) its not really a prob.

It's a pain for me, as i turn it off at the plug every night (unless i have a download going), and i'm sure it did it before i ever changed anything in the BIOS too...

New P5K user

:) Just got the P5K Deluke board with 4GB ram and the Q6850 3Ghz. This thread is so long  that I have no idea if anyone else is using the Q6850 on this motherboard; and I am certainly not going to read every post.

I have not yet started to seriously overclock - not sure if it's even possible - and the only things I have noticed are;

Leaving everything within the bios as Auto is not best. The need to update the bios revision to version 404 a must; as version 501 doesn't regognise the Q6850 yet, in fairness it is beta.

Manually chaning the Ram from auto 800Mhz to 1067Mhz and change the voltage.

I did try and change the PCU from 9 to 11 and that didn't work. Over the wekend I may try and see if it's possible to get the Ram working at 1333 :p

Only time will tell

The new beta bios came out, anyone know the changes?

anyone figured this out?

Install the Soundmax drivers.

Might give the beta bios a whirl, see what it bring to the table.

Have tried to replicate the situation noufas but after i tell it what i have plugged in and selected the jack it works for me no matter what i try.

i found the solution.
they want you to...lie
i was saying that i was connecting headphones, but it wants you to say that you are connecting speakers.
i think it has to do something with the front panel connector.
anyway, its all working now :)
as for the beta bios, i am running my q6600 stable at 3.2 with just increasing the fsb with the previous bios, dont know if i should bother with a beta version :P

Good to hear you got your sound working

On my second P5K-e now. The last one died whilst running some dodgy ram that has also been rma'd.
Had my last board up to 470fsb benchstable (e6750 @ 3.72) and have SuperPi'd on this board at about the same speed, not pushed any further yet.

Was under the impression I was cpu limited but after seeing weescotts earlier post It could be the motherboard.

Just need to get the setup prime stable at that speed now :)

Not had any sata problems with either of my boards. Running the 401 bios at the moment, which iirc is the older one, ran 2 different bios' on the older board with no issues.

What sort of problems are people having?

Anyone bought a recent Asus P5K Premium and can you confirm that with the latest bios the sata problems have been fixed?

Got a premium to replace a failing Deluxe and I havent noticed any SATA problems? Got 5 drives on SATA including Optical and works nicely.

On another issue, this is quite bizarre. I started OCing lightly, and if I try to run the CPU between 266mhz and 333Mhz FSB, it will not allow Windows to load or any boot cd, whilst over 333mhz its fine..seemed really strange!

just purchased the P5k Premium, but i have a few problems (noob)

I need to make a raid disk but with a USB stick (have no Floppy drive)
when i click on make disk (ICH9 32bit) it just comes up with "unable to get disk infomation".

anybody know how i can get round this.

it will be for XP

Download this from the Gigabyte website. It's the F6 drivers and will work fine for your ASUS board.

Run the .exe and copy the resultant files to the USB drive (remember not to copy the .exe too).
