Am thinking of getting one of these soon(ish) and was wondering about the LCD Poster thingy. Is it possible to bung this in a 5" drive bay or does it have to sit outside the case attached by a dodgy looking umbilical cord..? :confused:

If I can bung it in a drive bay I'll be happy to do so, otherwise I'll only have it attached until I get my system up and running.

Have you attempted any overclocking yet? I reckon you can most likely get to 3.4-3.5 on stock, best thing to do is to just to increments of 100mhz see if it boots and go from there tbh. Mine will do 4.3 stable on stock voltage, but again thats a dualcore and an E0 Stepping version as well if that makes more of a difference.

I have mine attached and it sits on top of my case.My girl friend thinks its a great idea as it reminds me of the time:D
 
Well I've finally made my mind up on what bits I'm getting for my new machine. Here it is:

Am only going to use the LED Post thingy to diagnose any problems I may have when assembling it and after I've finished I'll stick it in a drawer somewhere lol.

Am planning on overclocking the Q9550 to around 3.2GHz to start with, I don't think there's much point in going any higher. At long last I'll be able to play Oblivion with all bells and whistles lol :D

I'm also at a later date going to add another 1Gb Powercolor 4870 in Crossfire, should be able to handle anything I can throw at it as it is though. Alan Wake, I'm nearly ready for ya!!! :p
 
Why is it no mater what i try to O/C in the bios nothing works and I have to reset back to default.
Just tried setting my ram just the voltage to 2.1v and the dram to 1066. Thats all and it just will not work. Giving up ever trying to overclock on this board now.
 
I am about to order one of these boards, but before i do i need a few points cleared up if possible.

Setup here is the following.

E6400 C2D
4GB Geil DDR2 Ultra Latency
Gainward Ati 4870HD Golden Sample 512mb
Corsair HW520 PSU.
Thermaltake Soprano Case.
Zalman CNPS9500A-LED CPU Cooler.
500gb and 80gb Hitachi Deskstar SataII drives.

Now the question is that i know all my component i have will work in theory with this board and leave me with a lot of potential for the future, but one thing i am abit worried about though is the cpu cooler sufficent for pushing the e6400 up to 3.0ghz or would a newer more improved cooler be safer?

I currently run a old Asrock 945G-DVI board and it is very limited to OCing, hence i only clock it at the moment to 2.4ghz.

Before i place the order i would like a bit more info on what i would need ot not need.

Not too sure about the cooler mate, up until I ordered the bits above I've always kept with stock coolers and not overclocked anything. Haven't got my parts yet, had to be delivered to my Mum's address in Kent because it had to all be delivered to the cardholder's address which is a pain. Am waiting for my sinster-in-law to drop her sprog in Manchester which is overdue and my Mum'll bring the stuff up to me in London on her way to see the baby. If he/she isn't born before the 23rd then they'll induce it...so will have a few days more waiting yet I think. :(

Just wondering if the Rampage Formula will be able to see my Q9550 using the BIOS that'll be on the board or if I'll have to mess about flashing it..? Or am I better off flashing to a newer BIOS regardless..?

Edit: Wooooo hoooooo. The eagle has landed lol. I now have a nephew, going to phone my Mum later tonight and find out when MY baby is going to be delivered lolololol :D

I got my Board yesterday and all up and running, but im not happy with the Soprano, so have ordered a Antec 1200 case that will be turning up tomorrow.

I ordered a Asus Squared Blue Cpu cooler, but it wouldnt fit, so stuck with the zalman for now... cpu temps are not good, but ok with my E6400 running 8X400fsb with 1:1 ratio with ram on loose timings till i can sort it all out properly.

Bios revision is 308, i have thought maybe to update it, but havent had any issues yet.. will put it under more stress testing when i have put it in the 1200 tomorrow.
 
Well i have transfered all my stuff now into the antec 1200 and it has made a huge difference to my temps.

Running Prime95 @ 8x400fsb 1:1 ratio with loose memory timings it seems very nice max of 50C on the cpu and NB about 40-43 i have a Antec Spotcool blowing directly onto the NB area.

I am wondering if i can maybe change some voltage settings to drop the NB down even more if possible, but i am still feeling my way with this board for now.
 
I've got to wait another 9 hours before my parts get delivered, time has been going very slowly over these last few days lol. Going to have to read the Beginners Guide to Overclocking again to make sure I don't mess anything up I think!

Is it just me or is it bloody difficult to get the bloomin soundcard in..?!!? :eek:

This is really doing my head in now :(

Edit: Sorted...took a pair of pliers and did a McGyver lol :D
