*** Official BioShock 2 Thread ***

amazingly I just got the Historian achievment
I'm still in fontaine Futuristics! Live Feed Room of the Lab, this appears to be the earliest you can get it :D

[edit] oh and thats 2 "gatherings" without anyone turning up now :p [/edit]
[edit] I must be closer to the end than I thought  as I've just got the Achievment for "dealing with all the little sisters" :( [/edit]

Level 5 of 8 just finished and still no plot in sight. WTF there is no story. I'm enjoying the game but come on, it's the same ****ing game as the first one.

5 levels and all I've had is one person taunting me and another helping me, exactly the same as the first one.

I think after finishing level 5 I have about 70 audio logs. Thats whats taken me the most time, although they are not that hard to find it's nice to hear them especially with a story shallower that a kiddies paddling pool.

I dont know why the multiplayer is getting slated so badly, its alrite for a quick blast, did a capture the flag type game, i just need to lower my mouse sensitivity and i will play better.

Got this last night and had a good few hours on it. It is very similar to the first one, but meh, I enjoyed the first one and I'm enjoying this. Forgot how great plasmids are.

I have noticed it stutter and slow down a little though on PS3 during complex scenes, anyone else noticed this or is it just my aging PS3?

Do you get any more brutes when you get to fontaine? I have one more to research the meter is right near the top but haven't run into one for ages :(

nope, i had that on the 360 too :o

Ok finished this last night, got all but 2 SP Achievments (1 for completing on Hard and 1 of the Secret ones, as when I found out what it was it was too late).
I feel a bit let down, yeah it was great being back in Rapture and be playing a new Bioshock game, but it lacked everything the original had  (and I am Bioshock's #1 fan ). The last 3 missions left me feeling dirty and bored, and the story just went wierd.
On the whole, Bioshock 2 fails to beat Bioshock in many ways, instead of building on one of the most successful games, for some reason 2k seem to be trying to reinvent it  The graphical style for some reason has taken a step back, now being a more stylised (looks more "drawn" than the original, think more like a Graphic Noval style) and as for the "coral" WTF!? the graphic artist must have been on holiday that day and somehow the placeholder assetts got put in the final game (it's the only excuse I could think of).
They left out the best sound effects from the first, namely the themes and sayings from the ammo and vending machines - shopping just wasn't the same :(
Whilst some people found inventing (the collecting of items to do so) items a chore, it's one of the things that set Bioshock apart from other FPS's, removing it was a mistake as it left a big empty hole in the "charm" of Rapture.
I had "gatherings" glitched (no enemys turned up, although this was obviously to my advantage), a part where all environmental sounds stopped, and I even had parts where it felt like 1 frame per second (at the very last thing you do, infinite Elite Brutes, as I ran around like an idiot trying to fight).
The whole thing seems to of been dumbed down, even the management of the different types of Tonics is gone

They seem to of done away with everything that made Bioshock unique and given us a new First Person Shooter based on Bioshock

Dont get me wrong, it's a good game in its own right (but fails as a sequel) and I did enjoy it, just feel a bit meh......8/10

Now on with some MP :D

you do but you have quiet a wait, and you will have your hands full at the time :p TBH I think I only had Big Sisters left at that stage

What about daddies? I have got them to level 3 and a bit with fontaine nearly done. Do you have to rescue sisters in persephone?

I'm not sure whether I'll bother with the research on BioShock 2, it's obviously a lot easier to do it than it was in the first but it's still a bit of a bore

Its a bore but I did it anyway. I had to reload an checkpoint back an hour to get the one I forgot to photo. I'm almost on the last level now. Having a break :D

It does say there are unique tonics available only via research. Not sure whether they are any good though considering it's a hassle to keep whipping out the camera.

a couple of the tonics you get are worth it (although they come so late in the game you hardly notice). Other tip, there are 3 or 4 tonics that help your research, use them ASAP ;)

I wish you could start the game again with all your weapons, plasmids and tonics - first few levels would be a lot more fun!

Thing that annoyed me about Research this time, is you can only research one subject at a time, if you are being attacked by multiple enemies it forces you to concertrate on one. At least in Bioshock you got "multiple subject" bonus.

Oh another tip (and the game does tell you this) mix up your Plasmid and Weapons on each Research attempt - using different ones increases your score

Most of the atmosphere is missing from the first one. The background music just doesn't create the scene like the first one. I can only think they skimmed it down to fit on the MP.

Even the splicers don't come at you like in the first one. The spiders don't climb about like they did in the first one, they all pretty much just run at you. The ones with guns sometimes duck but thats about it.

There was a section in the first one when you explored a doorway turned around and got jumped on. They repeated the same thing in this one. Same thing happened in the same type of place you explore (without giving it away).

They should have gone to more effort to make you jump. They have improved the general game play and navigating the game, but left out so much of what made the atmosphere of rapture.
