Official Crysis Demo thread

I am playing it on 1680x1050 all on very high except one which is on high and 4xaa.

I wish I could play at 2560x1600 :p

Also SLI is not supported yet. So just one card working I assume.

i bet you are ok playin on 5 ~ 10 fps lol

EDIT: just played the demo my self all on high dx9 on windows x64 stock cpu, gpu at stock 750/1000 fps from 30 ~ 50 drops to 27 when it shows the movies. hope to gane more when oc cpu again. not so bad hoped fot better performance but still looks good. oh ye and res 1280x1024 no AA ...:(

So what you all think would give me the best performance increase upgrade for Crysis now youve played the demo? Im thinking about upgrading my monitor to a 22"...Ive waited a long time for this game and I wanna make sure I play it in the best possible way :p

Current Specs

6300 @ 2.9Ghz
4GB OCZ 6400
Vista 64bit
EVGA 8800GTS 320mb Superclocked

Currently I can only play it on these settings

DX10 - 1024 x 720 everything on sort of medium and high stuff...Think I have water and afew others on Very High...and thats just barely playable...
DX9 - 1440 x 900 everything on High. Nice framerate.

8800Ultra's in SLI :p

tbh I would wait for the Nvidia high end refresh (9800GTX ??) or if you are desperate sell the GTS and get a 8800GTX/Ultra/GT but the difference might be a little small

Hi, a bit of help please on this game. Firstly check my specs.

The crysis SP demo auto setting sets all my settings to Medium (and I up the res to 1440x900). Now I spent a fair bit of cash on this Rig and am wondering what I can do to increase the performance?
BTW - Just bought a second matched Pair so that will be with me on Thurs/ Fri.

I have Vista Ultimate 32bit, am going to reinstall with Home Prem 64bit
Is my GFX card up to it or should I SLi (£160) or buy a better card(£??)?

Anything else that might help?

Cheers Guys

I've got the same card (albeit different clocks) and it plays fine for me on a slightly lower resolution. I've got textures on medium and then everything else on high apart from post processing and shaders (which I've tuned with some cvars).

I don't know much about sli so I've no idea how sli performance would be compared to a newer card, but I seem to recall that data is mirrored in the vram on both cards so you would still have only 320mb total (which is just enough to run medium textures without filling it up).

So you would probably be better getting a newer card with more vram. The GT's are looking quite good and they may come down a little price as they seem quite high at the moment.

Best upgrade you can do for a game is a faster videocard, SLI does not work (yet) AFAIK so that leaves a 8800GT/GTX/Ultra but the difference is small.

You could overclock you rcurrent videocard if you haven't done so.

For me (and others) XP runs a lot smoother than Vista, the framerate is roughly the same but XP just plays smoother at low framerates, Vista feels laggy.

Damn, I think I still missed that sniper up a tree

You people make me laugh.

On my rig thats like over a year old or more...Can't even remmeber now I got it that long ago, crysis run's fine, I first left it on the autodetected setting's (which is medium) It ran fine...

I then upped it to high, it ran fine.
It's a pre-release demo, there's thing's called patches, nearly every game has them. (See that..."Nearly", I say nearly cause I know not every game has had a patch)

Probably get quoted to buggery here but hey, I just find it highly amusing :)

Each to they're own.

I agree with some of your points, anyone remember the Doom 3 alpha demo, true that it was quite early code, on my PC i barely averaged 3 FPS. By the time the game was released there was a major improvement in performance.

I just wish the Crysis demo would stop locking up at anything above Medium settings.

hahaha! I must try out this editor later
After you finished the demo then you can play it again via the editor
only this time you can add loads of goodies such as a tank, couldn't get any choppers to fly properly as the controls are greyed out in the demo.

For them that aren't sure -you load the editor & then click file/open /island/
island.cry. let it load & then go right down on to the beach & start experimenting with drag & dropping stuff in such as a tank & extra weapons etc. then its cntrl & G to drop yourself in,
the game will suddenly pick up where you are & the AI will appear as per the demo
Altho its windowed you can wide screen it by clicking the little symbol in the top corner of the rollup bar or by dragging the r/hand side over & remove the toolbars in 'view' so you get full screen :D

I got choppers working for me in the editor. I set my main movement controls to the arrow keys, and WASD worked by default for the vehicles :-)

Cant seem to play it no more....

Wouldnt run when first installed it..

Updated drivers to 7.9 and it was fine.

Now a day later im back to square one...

I even reinstalled the game but its still not playing ball.

Think i will just wait patiently for the full version:(

Just playing through the demo now on the hardest setting, using only darts, as mentioned in this thread. Lot of fun, and quite hard :D

Looks pretty good on my pc on med (i think) settings. Not tried anything else yet, content with just playing it :D
