Official Crysis Demo thread

Are you suggesting it's intended to be played at the absolute highest graphical settings? Because, if you are, I'm sure many people would disagree. Also, why have lower settings been implemented? Just for show, I guess.

Yes i am, the high settings are usually the development teams 'vision' for the game, if it wasnt why bother putting them in at all? Additional settings usually are to futureproof the game somewhat in some games, others extra settings are introduced through patches

it should be pretty obvious why lowest settings exist, to make is accesible by the biggest possible playerbase not because it is how the developers intended it to be played
Or are you seriously incinuating half life 2 on 640x480 with all sliders and settings on as low as possible is how they imagined the game should be played?

Doesn't make any difference to gameplay so you FAIL

I understand what you're saying, Chronictank, but I just don't think it's necessary to have to, or even be able to, play the game at the highest settings--at least not yet anyway because it's barely possible.

At the moment, I consider the High preset to be the highest setting and Very High to be "locked tier", a setting which might be patched in at a later date on another game, something which is intended to be used in the future as a means of, like you said, future-proofing.

Indeed, it would've saved a lot of this debate if Crytek just left out the Very High settings for now and patched them in when hardware is capable of it. But I guess they wanted to show us--give the consumer a taster, if you like--what the game is capable of looking like, despite the fact that the hardware available to us right now might not be capable of making full use of it.

And your clueless, the info in infront of you and you still cant see it.

If a 8800GTS can play it at 1280X*** and MAX settings according to him, then he does not need mention by name or model the "Higher Cards" needed to play at 1600x1200 as you should know what cards are higher than a 8800GTS.

The fact remains a GTX and Ultra struggle at the 1280x *** RES and MAX settings he just claimed thats a GTS should run.

Now he did not mention FPS but we assume he is talking about the game being playable not 10FPS (common sence)

Lol, put your dummy back in you muppet. It run's fine MAX on my system at 1680*1050 sorry if you dont consider 30ish FPS good. ar5e

I've heard stories about being able to use the directX 10 effects under Windows XP. Is this true and how is it possible?

It's funny how you put spin on things
The hardware may be a year old but it is the fastest available today

Considering I didn't state what card I've got...I have an x1900xyx, that is most definitely not the fastest card available today by any means...Hell I didn't even slate the card.

Why is it so difficult for you to fathom that the game looks rubbish when the settings are lowered sufficiently to make it playable, therefore graphically TODAY (when it counts) it is rubbish

How can you say the game looks 'rubbish' in medium setting's? It doesn't...It's not "amazing" no, but it certainly isn't rubbish. Especially by today's "standard's" as it where.

20fps is not playable for me personally, that is pretty much crawling.

That is fair enough :) I'm used to be VERY picky on what fps I had in games, as I used to paly clan matches and the like. I have no idea what fps I get in Crysis, I play the game, and it runs comfortably. People stare at the fps counter too much in my opinion ;)

And the mouse lag is appauling when you are near the edge of the limit

Mouse lag? I really haven't experienced this. Are there quite a few people who are getting this then? Out of interest what mouse do you have? :)

It is indeed possible to get some of the DX10 exclusive effects running under dx9, it involves editing some of the games config files, obviously their is a performance hit using them but its no where near as drastic as using dx10 is.

Some of the effects available through this method are Sunbeams (rays of light through objects) and paralax occlusion mapping (fancy bumps on the ground).

Should be able to find some info on how to edit the config files at incrysis.com

You can basicaly just enable all the very high settings which in the demo are only available if you are on Vista. DX10 isn't possible in DX9.

Windows xp or vista? I can't even get it to run on very high at 30fps have to put one setting on High. Then I get 30ish fps

Are you playing at 2560x1600 on your 30" TFT?, and you have TWO 8800GTX's yes? and a QX6850 At3.85ghz!...well, if you can't max it out... then let us all be afraid:eek:

I run it on pretty much all 'medium' (barring post-processing IIRC and no AA) at 1280x1024 on my E6400, XFX 7600GT and it's perfectly playable and looks quite good too!

Haven't tried pushing it up any though, just gone with that for the meantime...

He isn't talking No Swearing - K. Game runs solid 30 fps on my rig in 1920x1200 on high settings.

Half of the people in this thread are so damn picky :/

Damn that demo was fun - grenades + houses = fun :D Turned by the bass up and my woofer went 'pow' and a blast of air went onto my leg! Really fun end was a bit weird though..

Wish people will stop moaning about their PC and the game.
