Official Crysis Demo thread

If they fix the CPU issues, for a game their CEO claims is more CPU dependant, it hardly uses any % of 1 of my Cores nevermind both Cores, and even less on Quads.

This man speaks the truth, no point in going quad core for crysis, other games may utilise four cores, eg (maybe Alan Wake) but if crysis is anything to go by, you don't need to. ATM it's a waste of money to go quad core solely for gaming purposes.

I aint knocking Quads, I know whats best today for gaming overall and so do most good review sites.

Im purely stating the game is not utilising Both my Cores and the 1 Core it is using is nowhere near as high a % of CPU use/time as any other games, the Quad users are finding it the same apart from 3 Cores are going to waste for most of them.

The Demo is obv to blame not their PC's.

I know what you mean, its just people's expectations of the hardware available right now are a bit unrealistic, when faced with the dawn of crysis. Maybe crytek will make more optimisations in future patches that will fully utilise available cores but the upcoming penryn cores aren't going to be as amazing for gaming as everyone thinks. Crysis seems to offload everything to the gpu so it's up to nvidia and ati to answer the call.

Im trying to find the correct Vid this peep talks off.

Quoted:

" Has anyone seen the On The Spot? They run it with an 8800GT with no loss in framerate! I didn't see it jump once. I am pretty sure that was the full game since I don't think I saw that in the demo. You guys need to be a bit more optimistic."

" The demo uses only one CPU core , it doesn't recieve a boost of FPS with vista/DX10 , so I suppose the video wasn't taken using the demo . And the 8800 GT is a damn insane card , it has 56 TMUs ( not in a traditional sense , but still ) and it performs awfully close to the 8800 GTX "

Yeah it looked to be very high/very high...really smooth.

They also kept going on about how well it ran.

I just read the review of crysis in Pc zone it speaks very highly of the game but it seems the end is really poor against the aliens with a sequel/expansion pack ending.

They even mention Zen from half-life, please god no why can't game designers come up with better ending. I'll hold total judgement until I play it myself.

They also clocked the game in at 11 hours, but did state there was loads of replay value.

There’s also a section in the review telling us what got taken out of the game. See below

-You could parachute to any point of you choice. (I can see how this could easily break the game)
-The characters were meant to be able to die and the story was meant to shift dynamically to affect there deaths
-Tactical ammo you could trigger when it suits you, to knock out helicopter pilot’s whist in flight.
-Frequent visits to the aircraft carrier base between missing.
-Dogfights in alien spacecraft around a mothership.
-Blowing the rotors of helicopters.
-Knocking out helicopter pilot

None of them are really game breakers but it would have been nice to shoot rotors of helicopters and watch the spin to the ground.

They say anything about performance ?

I remember a few of those features being demo'd, the user controlled tranq darts looked ace, too :(
Lets hope the mod makers can put some of this stuff back in.
What score did they give it, warnea1984 ?

What score did they give it, warnea1984 ?

92%
Positives
-Far Cry reborn
-Nanosuit is sublime
-Largely clever koreans (they do meantion in the review that its not always that smart)
-Stuff blows up good

Negatives
-Poor Final Act

they meantion performance and the machine you will need to play it on but its seems they just looked at the recommend specs.

Ok I just watched On The Spot and their framerate was very good even through streaming video it looked amazing, I also noticed light ray effects that the demo does not have so obviously they're running on DX10 mode.

The system they showed it on was a C2D with 2GB ram and a 512MB 8800GT and they said it ran awesome. The guy who showed us playing it said someone else started the game for him but he said he thinks it was all on high or very high.

Looks like the full game is in fact much more optimised for dual/quad core and favours the 8800GT muchly!

I cannot wait, Q6600, 4GB, 8800GT OC = awesome tbh!

I have just been messing around with the config settings. I love having a near unlimited nano suit energy :D

Doesn't that kind of defeat the point in having energy in the first place? It would be boring if you could stealth everywhere!

No not at all. I have been playing the demo constantly since release. I just wanted to have a bit of fun and try out different things without worrying about how much energy the suit had.
