Official Crysis Demo thread

Yeah i agree. The balance is just right. Just nice to mess about a bit.

Just incase anyone is interested in having more nano suit energy i will post up the settings i used.

Find the cfg file called 'diff_easy'

Program Files/Electronic Arts/Crytek/Crysis SP Demo/Game/Config

Open up 'diff_easy' (Backup first just incase) and paste this into it ;

Start a new game on easy and voila. Now remember its just for fun.

I aint knocking Quads, I know whats best today for gaming overall and so do most good review sites.

Im purely stating the game is not utilising Both my Cores and the 1 Core it is using is nowhere near as high a % of CPU use/time as any other games, the Quad users are finding it the same apart from 3 Cores are going to waste for most of them.

The Demo is obv to blame not their PC's.

thats because the game is GPU limited and not cpu limited.

That 8800gt was eating crysis for breakfast. why does my gtx suck at it :(

Well one thing is for sure, even if by a miracle the end game is not optimised (virtually impossible after watching gamespot video!) I can still play in dx9 mode in HIGH and not suffer any fps hit :)

my PC didnt have a hope in hell of playing this with any decent amount of performance, was getting like 10fps all of the time, firefights were a slideshow. Kinda annoys me though, i had to have crysis on low to get very rubbish performance, yet can play cod4 on high with decent fps, and it looks far far better than crysis on low.

anyway, its obviously my athlon 4000+ thats holding me back, the x1900XTX should play crysis okayish.

The Game is CPU limited, go and read the CEO Interviews, then wonder how it runs so crap as it uses 1 Core and about 50% useage if your lucky.

In order of importance its CPU, GPU, Memory according to him.

Roll eye to you too m8.

That demo was not same crap we got given, thats more like the one we seen over the year with peeps playing at conferences.

Some of his comments from interviews.

" Gaming Heaven: Performance, the main question every gamer has. What will be needed to run the game at playable framerates? How about playing with everything maxed? Will current rigs be able to run the game at 1920x1200 without making sacrifices? Do you recommend ATI or Nvidia and have you any performance figures for us for the Nvidia 8800 and ATi 2900?

Cevat: Everything maxed and at that resolution, you will need a seriously high rig of the latest generation available now. Bear in mind we don’t expose, but have built in scaleability for the upcoming 1-2 years. That will be available as hardware catches up. So when I say maxed, its maxed for now."

LOOOOOOOOOOL! Look what I just found!

lol, sounds good. I'd like to see uber hard but with tons of weapons and infinite energy so its just comic book style, batting the swarms into the ocean

No idea who said what but this game is not cpu limited till you set the game to low on 800x600 at least for me, might be a bit higher with a very nice graphics card but normally its all about those shadows, etc

I'd like to see a map full of AI fighting each other with destrucible buildings, then we'll see some real cpu drain.
I can believe the servers are massively cpu limited, no wonder its dx10 for physics multiplayer

the developers of crysis have always said the end user will benefit from future hardware to make the most of it. whether that be farcry 64 bit too-little too late style who knows...but i think it is ridiculous people expect to see max performance on 8 month (at least?) hardware...gtx...

give it 4 months and see what the future patches and next-gen video cards bring

and then lets hope that crysis is not the only game that requires £300 + video cards to run because nothing really pushes my 2900 pro (xt) ...

Well I really enjoyed the demo, haven't played many pc games for a while apart from openTTD. I have everything on low and a resolution of 1280 by 1024, I do have physics on full. On my system 3200xp, 7600gs and a gig of Ram, it plays well enough for me. It will be a while before I build a new rig and when I do I'll expect that Crysis will shock me as to how good it looks, just like far cry did. I definitely think that I'll be buying this game when it hits the shops.

The demo has eaten my system alive and asked for seconds, i get about 15fps whilst everything is on very high at 1680x1050 playing the x64 dx10 version, i am realy hoping the retail version is MUCH more optimised!

I also get around the same fps as you with same settings. This demo is a pc killer.Should improve when they get the sli working and drivers get tweaked some more.

I have just finished the demo and am quite impressed. Yest it is a bit like farcry after a makeover but no doubt the gameplay will evolve as the game progresses. This is just a first level demo after all.

With regard to performance, it ran smoothly with everything on high and 1280*1024. My system is as follows

Intel E2180 @ 3.4
Zotac 880gt 700/1800/1000
2Gb Pc2-6400 @ 950 15-4-4-4
WIndows XP
17" LCD

From reading this thread, a couple of things spring to mind. First, having an old 17" monitor helps moderate expectations. Secondly, I don't understand why people are moaning that they can't play it maxed out on ther top end rigs. It is clearly programmed to grow with technology, which I think is no bad thing. Why do people feel cheated because of this, just pretend high is actually very high. They could have actually released it that way and revealed very high with a patch next year. Would this have upset you less.

Very impressed with the demo. Ran fairly smooth too.

2.7ghz opteron
8800GTS @ 600/860
2gig ram
Win xp

Got most settings on high at 1680x1050 with a bit of AA and AF it runs about 30fps constant while walking and in light gun fights. Slowest it got to was about 10fps when you peer over the hill overlooking the first base but thats about it.

Cool stuff, just ran through the modified map (map 5), and had great fun just throwing koreans at one another and running around in stealth mode.

I've just put my Creative Audigy 2 back in, that that seems to have helped a bit, esp when turning around. All I can guess is that it's taken the sound load off the cpu, which must increase significantly when turning. :)

The Game is CPU limited,.

oh what makes you think that?

it uses 1 Core and about 50% useage if your lucky.

sounds to me like your just plain stupid with a reply like that. you should know by now that if you want to reply to me you better have some rock solid evidence to back up your stupidity otherwise your going to look like a complete fool.

like i said, cpu speed for this game means jack.
congratulations helmutcheese you have just been owned

I think the cpu only comes into play when things are moving about like when you blow a base up I bet a quad core helps a lot more over dual or single in those situations.

I am having great performance on my single core opteron though (8800gts). :)

Indeed. Its obvious its only gpu limited.

e.g.

I turn all graphical options to low and get 50fps or whatever. Turn all highest and get 2fps
