Official Crysis Demo thread

Surely people can use the editor to create new maps which others can then play, without having to get the full game.

(i will be getting it anyway because its so good)

Is the demo freezing for anyone else?

A few minutes into the demo it just keeps locking up for me and I need to press the reset button on the case cos it won't let me get back to the desktop.

To a certain degree, but just like the demo a lot of content is missing. There's only a few textures and other things. You can make some interesting stuff but with the limited library of things available it's more just to get used to how the editor works and create some bits and pieces.

When the full game comes out then people will be able to make all sorts of amazing stuff.

The physics arent as good as i thought personally. With super strength on i cant punch down trees, or houses or fence panels, which is ridiculous given that you can punch a car and full oil canisters a fair distance!

Must admit, I havent tried on trees, but I was able to punch down those houses next to the GPS machine thing, and was also able to punch down the fence panels at those houses.

Though sometimes I had to wait for my energy to get back to max in order for the hit to be strong enough to knock down some of the sections of the houses.

All this whingeing about not being able to max all the settings is hilarious. It's Nigel Tuffnell and "These go to eleven" all over again! Ironically, if Crytek got rid of "Very High" altogether and renamed "High" to "Max", everyone would stop crying, and we'd be getting less flexibility in the software.

For the rest of us, why not disable "PC Ego", find a suitable compromise in the settings and enjoy one of the best shooters released in a while. I haven't upgraded in over a year and I'm loving the demo.

I'll going to revisit this game in a year's time and play it maxed out, just like I did with Far Cry, Messiah and many other games.

I totally agree with you m8 but I dont think anyones listening.....:(

Well the SP demo runs like a sloth through treacle for me whereas the MP demo runs really well.

PC Spec is:

Q6600 @3.0 GHz
8800 GTX
4Gb RAM
Vista x64

That's really strange - i've got

Q6600 @ 2.4 Ghz
7600 GT
2Gb Ram
XP Pro

and the single player works perfectly for me

Though half the settings are on Medium, other half on low

Delta is easy, just grab the humveee and your unstopable :p

I like trying to do the level stealthily and only using the tactical attachment (tranquilizer darts) and nothing else. The game shares a LOT of similairities with Snake Eater and several other Metal Gear Solid games, believe it or not!

- Going prone in the foliage makes you incredibly hard to see, and you're practically invisible unless enemies are within a stone's throw.
- There is a '!' symbol on the bottom left of the radar, which acts as a potential threat indicator, this goes orange/red if you are close to potential threats
- On top of that, there is the alertness meter which shows the enemies' awareness of any threats to them. It doesn't necessarily mean they've seen you, just that they know there's something dangerous to them. You can have it fully red but they only know your last known spot for example. You are still hard to see in foliage.
- Using the silencer means they cannot work out the spot you are firing from. You can fire upon a camp from a distance and they will try to sweep search the area in a hurry. If you are spotted, you can use the cloak and move elsewhere and carry on firing as they will have to sweep search again.
- Enemies will often fire on your last known position, as well as throwing grenades. Sometimes they will stay in place constantly shooting and yelling at your last known location while you sneak up from behind or ambush from the hilltops.

It is a real shame all this only really goes into place on Delta mode; every other difficulty it's just a cookie-cutter shoot-em-up. The AI cannot really shine in a shooter environment like this, but they are supreme in stealth situations where they are searching for you while you try to hide. The fact that they speak actual Korean adds a genuine touch of difficulty to the proceedings as well, as you do not know what they will do, compared to easier difficulties where they shout out things like 'cover me while I'm reloading!' or 'where is he!' or 'throwing grenade!' in English.
