Official Crysis Demo thread

Yes Did some Tests....It does not seem to use 4 cores, properly even on high physics events, I think we can assume this is as it says a "beta demo"

I did notice it Uses lots of swap file, So those without Raid or fast drives may suffer and make sure your allocating at least 1.5GB

HC, I ment screenie showed no heavy physics work for CPU, it was just a static scene

4GB ram is more than enough for it, you don't need RAID and all that nonsense :)

Load times are super fast even on very high dx10, no hd thrashing at all - the game loads faster than CSS ffs which makes it all the more bizarre on why it runs so **** !

TBH

dx10 brings subtle differances only well with the demo anyway , the lighting is def enhanced in dx10, i dont think dx10 was ever going to bring anything amazing , just better than dx9 if that makes sence

I'm rather annoyed too that quad performance isn't as good as it could be. UT3 is way better for taking advantage of it(or at least 2 of the cores).

As for the rest of the demo, played it through about 5 or 6 times now doing and finding it better everytime cos of using different tactics. Power switching is faster now and using convienient rock formations for combat with guns and vehicles is very satisfying. Can't wait for the final game. End of demo is very enticing too.

Still nobody has said what DX10 is bringing to the table over DX9 except a few more textures, anyone ?

This game for Me was what DX10 was supposed to be all about ?
More textures?

DX10 has amazing lighting, improved shaders and water effects etc. The difference is huge.

However, I don't see why DX9 couldn't pull these things off. I'm willing to bet if they tried, they could make DX9 look equally as pretty and probably perform on par.

I have bashed DX10 from it's introduction, I thought Crysis would be the game to change all that. It isn't (so far).

We wont really know what DX10 is bringing to the table for a long while yet..just as we didnt when DX8 replaced DX7 and DX5 replaced DX4.

This game for Me was what a fun successor to Farcry was supposed to be all about. Personally I think people are getting too obsessed with the DX9 v DX10 , XP v Vista argument, and enormously over obsessed with pimp my ride style fps numbers. I mean here we are on page 55 of this thread, and the vast majority of posts have been about numbers rather than about whether or not the game is fun

hmm, just had a look at mine, to see what it's doing, both cores are being used, however they are only being pushed to 30-50%, which is unusual, as most games do 80-100% on my computer :/

There seem to be physics differences too, I have a savegame with a hut with 3 barrels in it and a car next to it, in DX10 shooting a barrel blows the whole lot to pieces including the car, in DX9 the car remains pretty much untouched.

Just out of curiousity after playign the demo what difficulty setting are you going to play it on when the full game is out? Im personally gonna play on Delta as it seems to be a really good choice and really like the lack of crosshair and the way the Korean people speak Korean :p

Seemed really odd how they were running around shouting korean then when you threw a grenade next to one of the AI they scream "GRENADE!" in a full engish accent...

...Also another point is ive just played the Demo in DX9 on high perfectly and ran really smooth at 1440 x 900. When I was playing in DX10 on medium with some settings on ultra high I could only play on 1024 x 720. I dont know which I prefer as they both looked pretty dam special...

CPU usage during the CPU benchmark:

During the GPU benchmark:

Roughly 80% on one core and 50 on the other, so 65% CPU usage overall which is likely to increase when I get an 8800GT.

Some sections of this game look unfinished, pretty disappointed. Maybe it has a good story though

I should learn not to get brought into all the hype :)

Anyone running Crysis demo at res 1920*1200 on a single 8800GTX please post DX9/Dx10 fps xp/vista ?

I don't know the exact FPS but DX10 performance is awful on my PC, I would guess less than 15 fps.

Optimal settings, 1920 x 1200, Q6600, 8800GTX and the Nvidia 163.71 driver.

depends what OS your using...it seems to run best on xp

not especially, its because on XP it doesnt have the directx 10 things.

iv ran it on xp and vista both 32bit OS. it runs best on all high on both OS, but obviously when you crank it up to very high the amount of detail, im not supprised that it kills fps.

where are the dx10.1 cards! lol

well looking at the code of the game, its using the exe to do everything, the cryengine.dll is just sat there , now if u compare this to the engines other games its wrong, the dll is the main used area of functions.i think we will see big changes in the full game. i think its just a small unfinished , un-optimised version :)
