Official Crysis Demo thread

are you sure it was crysis you tried that in ?
in crysis you can punch down trees..houses and also fence panels

Yup, how do you punch down trees then? Strength mode, max charge, nothing happens. Same with house panels etc by the beached boat, nothing flinches even with maximum charge

Why don't you try and hit a palm tree with a sledge hammer in real life. The difference between a bullet and a fist is that one is a pinpoint pressure point, and the other does blunt trauma. Learn2physics, noob :p

From over at the Offical Forums.

1 core doing most of the work and I would expect it to take it to 100%, its said to be more so like above on Quads, I aint checked on my Dual yet.

If the game really is more CPU dependant as Crytek's CEO Cevat Yeril, then thats why FPS are bad, they need get it to rape all 2 or 4 Cores to near/100% like games normally do for Single/Dual cores.

Hmm looking at my results below does this seem right? I reckon it does not!
cpuusage.jpg

Q6600 @ 3GHz, all 4 cores should be much higher usage than that, this would be a factor into why the FPS is so poor (below 20 regardless of resolution I set in DX10 mode when quality is set to high or above)

And yes, for this test I did punch the heck out of the first hut and mashed it to pieces then moved onto the next area of the hut - the physics did not make the other cores load any higher than in the screenshot - it would appear that physics processing is not done by the CPU here on either core and that the GFX card is being maxed out on everything regardless of res.

Post processing set to medium makes a far more pleasurable and less headache inducing experience, never will understand why there's a need for induced view change motion blur when the act of the view itself changing is as close to real life as it can get anyway.

I'm not sure why its not working for you, I just tested it again and I can most definately punch down the trees and the buildings.

I loaded up a save at the GPS machine camp, smashed the buildings there down and then tried a tree (as I hadnt tried to punch one of those down before so wasnt sure if it worked), and sure enough, after around 6 or 7 full strength punches it snapped and fell down

@ XysteR, According to Crytek's CEO Cevat Yeril, the game is MORE CPU dependant, in order of importance he says CPU, then GPU then Memory.

Something seems wrong with all info on lack of CPU useage and lack of Cores sharing esp so on Quads (lets hope only a Demo bug).

@ JAKUS, I dont get what you are talking about, its not a static screenie, the game is running with the TASK Manager set to "ON TOP", it will show the Cores usage while game still runs.

@ mrk, the info was not mines, it was over on the offical Crysis Forums, there is many threads all over web about lack of use of more then 1 core more so with Quads, either way it should really use a high CPU % same as games should.

Hey, I had no idea the demo was out so I have just started the download. I read a couple of posts and I see the usual shouts of "why can't I run it max?" The question I have how does it compare performance wise if you were to set the graphics settings comparable visually to any new good looking game, for example say STALKER, MOH Airborne, Advanced War Fighter 2 or COD4. Of course the Crysis will look so much better than these games when maxed, but I want to compare apples with apples, if you know what I mean.

Do it yourself and see, in Vista64 it looks like a Cartoon at Medium and aint DX10.

The usual shouts are valid after the info in interviews from Crytek's CEO Cevat Yeril.

First time i played the demo i wasn't too impressed. 2nd time i played it i liked it more. 3rd time i played it, i friggin loved it. Once you figure out what settings work best, the game is so much more fun. This is without a doubt one of the greatest FPS games ever made. I only wish there was hardware out to run this thing with everything set to the max with 60fps.

Yes Did some Tests....It does not seem to use 4 cores, properly even on high physics events, I think we can assume this is as it says a "beta demo"

I did notice it Uses lots of swap file, So those without Raid or fast drives may suffer and make sure your allocating at least 1.5GB

HC, I ment screenie showed no heavy physics work for CPU, it was just a static scene

I hope there is a quad core bug or its simply not been enabeled cos the crytek team did once say they all use c2d pcs and are building it with that in mind but it will support quad core.

Always get a suspicious feeling they just whammed it together and optimised it well for dual core but quad+ they aint bothered!

Still nobody has said what DX10 is bringing to the table over DX9 except a few more textures, anyone ?

This game for Me was what DX10 was supposed to be all about ?
