I'm currently (rereading) Clear and Present Danger by Tom Clancy, i'm trying to read them in order, and i'm quite enjoying them.
Very different from the films (as always).
After I finish this one though I think I might try something different, possibly Darwin's Radio and Darwins Children by Greg Bear.

Oh my, I've read a lot since I last posted in here, hehe.
At the moment, I'm making my way through Hubert Selby Jnr - Last Exit To Brooklyn which is awkward. The man very rarely uses any form of punctuation correctly (if at all) and you often find yourself reading things a few times to clarify who was speaking and doing what, etc. It is certainly brash and uncompromising, but it's such a chore to read.
It's worth a read I guess, but I don't think I'll ever come back to it. Going to be reading The Road as soon as I've managed to order it!

Just started reading Stephen Kings the Green Mile, an interesting narrated introduction which set's a vivid image in my mind.
This is a brilliant book. I read it before I saw the film and whilst the film was also excellent, it still didn't quite compare to the book.

Thought I'd dig this thread up, we have a really active film thread and I can't believe everyone on this forum simply stopped reading books on May 18th 2009!
Yesterday I sat down in a chair in the kitchen, with the kettle at arms reach and read Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke cover to cover in a single sitting. It was one of the most enjoyable days of my life. I've read it before but many years ago when I was a lot younger, it was probably one of the first properly 'grown up' books I read as a child and I remember that it completely changed the way I thought forever. It was one of the watershed moments where you stop thinking like a child and start developing into an adolescent/man.
The best part is the series only gets better from here on out, another three glorious books to read. Hopefully I can finish them by the end of the week
So, what's everyone else reading at the moment?

I can't remember all the books I've read between my last post and now but I'm currently reading Moby Dick by Herman Melville, about 3/4 of the way through it and thus far it is magnificent - a true opus of a book with such varied writing styles throughout.

Just finished reading The War of The Dwarves by Markus Heitz, 2nd book in the series. Both books are brilliant and I came across them by pure chance would give them both 8/10 possibly nine!
Struggling for what to read next, I'm considering re-reading a couple of David Gemmell books for the moment, though someone i know did recommend the author David Farland specifically The Sum of all Men, but I have not read reviews or looked into his stuff yet.

Thought I'd try a classic and am currently reading Dickens' David Copperfield, it having somehow previously passed me by. Don't really know what I was expecting, but what I got was some good, honest storytelling mixed with an incredible turn of phrase. Bravo, Dickens.
Shantaram is next on my list, having borrowed it from a workmate. Looks like plenty on here enjoyed it so looking forward to that.

I have just finished reading Hiroshima by John Hersey.
I'm currently reading The Bells of Nagasaki by Takashi Nagai. This is imo the best of the 2 and I enjoyed it immensely, even though it's obviously about a hugely depressing event.
Next on my list is The Second Ring of Power by Carlos Castaneda

Currently reading "Carrion Comfort" after going to a book exchange on holiday. So glad I did, one of the best books i've ever read. Has an excellent spin on the whole vampire mythology but no blood sucking, garlic BS...delves into the world of psychic vampires. It's genuinely disturbing and feels very fresh and from what I can tell, it was written 25 years or so back. It's also rated by Stephen King as one of the top 3 horror novels of all time.
