***Official DC Universe Online Thread***

Still £20???

Surely it would be better to wait until it runs the course and goes F2P?

You'll be waiting a while. Since the server merge, there's plenty of people playing. And with the recent release of their first DLC, the place has been buzzing big time :D

We're hoping for new content in the next few weeks. I've been doing some major pvp the last week and despite the speed hackers (mainly on the villain side), I am having a blast.

Personally, since getting the lifetime sub, I am enjoying the game so much more. As I said, the new DLC and latest game update is making the game all the more enjoyable :)

Granted when Star Wars The Old Republic gets released, a lot of people will leave. But, I reckon give it say 2-3mths, many of them will be back. It happens across MMOs these days. So we'll see.

I would definitely recommend re-rolling and going to the US servers. I can promise you that you'll see tons of users on at any given time of the day. Also, on the official DC Universe Online forums someone has actually posted a thread on a guide to powers, combos, mentors, weapons, etc. Install the file and get a good feel of what powers you can use and what combos/weapons work best for your toon. I forgot the name of it, but I will check when I get home tonight as I am at work and post it here. :)

Cool thanks for the advice :)

Do you know if it is possible to collect all the starter costume pieces throughout the game? I'm aiming to have my character start out looking a bit rubbish and then gradually look better as I level up.

Lol...that's pretty much what everyone does :) So yeah you can do that...and plenty of iconic gear to pick up along the way.

By the way here's the link to download the guide I was talking about. Very useful and helpful

So to actually play this game now u need to play on the US servers? im glad i didnt return to this game before reading this forum. Got 3 level 30's on the eu server which i managed in the free 30days when the game was released and it was hard enough getting raids/alerts back then! ill stick to lotro even though im bored of it. Shame really as this game has potential.

No I am not saying you have to be on the US server entirely. But you have more people to raid/alert with. I cannot really comment much on the EU server, but I would imagine it does have a big population, just nowhere what the US server have. Dont forget the servers have been merged, so whatever you had on EU will now be different. Just give it one more try and if it doesn't appeal to you, then by all means don't have to stick around :)

Me personally, I am pleased for the server merge cos now I can pvp like mad and no longer worry about long queues. In the last week alone I have done roughly 40hrs of pvp...yowzers  and to think I was never much for pvp to begin with lol.

So in other news...the game will now be FREE TO PLAY as of next month. I'm actually glad I paid the lifetime sub for this back in April as it seems you get more benefit than being a free to play user.

Well the new update is fabulous so far. the new Fortress raid is epically HARD! Went in there with two different characters and could not get passed the 2nd boss. But I am sure eventually a highly geared enough team can break it.

The duelling system is fantastic and a good way to practice for pvp. So if I were you, get in there, I might even be holding a tournament of some sort to even the playing field for new players who have yet to get stuck into pvp. Basically, no powers, no trinkets, no gear, just weapons. Might even give it a try with just fists tonight and see how that goes.

There's also a new Batcave pvp arena for 2v2. Same as legends only this time your own character goes in rather than playing as the likes of Batman, Catwoman, Harley etc.

Also added a new T2 hard mode alert. The Hive Moon Base. I ran this briefly during the test phase and dang it was hard lol. Will see how it fairs now it's released.

Just to add on the new Fortress raid, the first boss, you take on either Bizarro, Power Girl or Supergirl who are all controlled by Brainiac. The 2nd boss you have the help of Superman, Lex Luthor and wait for....General Zod from the Phantom Zone. Epic stuff if you ask me :D The design of the inside of The Fortress is immensely vast as well. Man, I always thought it was rather small from what I seen in the movies and Smallville, but in DCUO, yikes...it really IS a Fortress. I'll post some pics soon.

Anyway, back to work for me lol.

Interestingly enough, if you plan on playing this long term, buying the lifetime sub today (last chance on that if I'm not mistaken), is still the best solution. Legendary level players will continue to be charged as per their old subs, so you'll get to have access to whatever they have without paying anything else in the future.

Which is why I'm glad I got a Lifetime sub back in April ;) :D

Quick question. I noticed last update introduced new body types, and the Devs have mentioned on the forums that they want to implement a way to change existing ones now that new ones are in. Has that actually been done yet, and if so, where?

First I've heard of this. I have 5 characters from the very start of the launch in Jan. And to be honest I wouldn't want to change their body type lol. I have created a new character using one of the new body types. Doesn't feel all that "new" if you ask me. But if they are doing that for existing players, then great for those that want it.

Bought this on pc ages ago but want to try it on ps3 but damn it still hasnt been released, whoever claimed nov1st should be shot xD

You know you could have downloaded it via the Playstation Network lol. But the devs were updating on Facebook and mentioned at the time the client for the PS3 will take a little longer than the PC version. However, all that should be resolved now as of 3hrs or so ago the game is back up and running. So get your free time peeps ;)

Well I finish work in 30mins. So when I get home I will see what awaits me when I hit the Station launcher. If I have to download the entire game again, well not much else I can do about that I guess lol.

There is no AA in the game. I don't know why people are so bothered about AA. And yes you can turn off vsync in the game. When you get in just hit Esc and then Settings. And go from there.

As for power sets, I highly recommend searching for and then downloading and installing Ultimate DCUO Character Planner. This has all the powers, mentors, weapons and pretty much everything you need on what role you want to play on.

I have 6 characters and 4 of them are of each role: tank, controller, healer and dps. The tank is ice, controller is gadgets, healer is nature and dps is ice. All of them on hero side in pve. All level 30 and well geared.

So long as you know what role you plan on taking...get as many skill points as you can and be sure to spec into weapon trees that give you specific buffs/points for your role. Example my dps requires might and precision so I spec into weapons that give out lots of might and damage crit, the more of these, the higher the damage output. For tank you need dominance and defense. Controller vitalization and dominance and healer needs restoration. Keep those in mind, and you're sorted. :)

Also to add if you have this on Steam, do what I did, make the Launcher run its own instead of thru Steam. I only had to download 5.8GB updates and even then it stopped at 3.6GB and when I resumed it, it only downloaded 322MB. Been on ever since. Tho the queues are now going to be a problem :p

What a Pain this game is. I create a character, get into the starting area and it just randomly crashes on me. No set point either, it's completely random. Up until the crash it runs just fine. Then, BOOM, blank screen and the system needs a hard-reboot.

Not surprising there was a barrage of issues last night. PVP was worst. Players were seen to be standing still but when they attacked you, you taking heavy damage. Even worse than that was, when you got KO'd the respawn time would start from as little as 10min to anything as ridiculous as 120min. People were having to close the game altogether. And to get back in, you had to log in as a different character (if you had more than one). For those who only had one character, it would get stuck on the loading screen until, as you say, you did a hard reboot of the PC.

But SOE have announced that they will be taking the servers down for maintenance today for an hour. So let's hope all the niggling issues get resolved and something else isn't broke.

Have to say tho, it was both good and bad to see all the worlds full of players. Good cos it meant people had others to level up with and join in missions that were otherwise difficult to do solo (hey it happens lol). Bad cos you're inundated with noob questions like: "how do I get to Gotham from Metropolis?" or "where do I check my mail?". The latter I had a full on argument with some doofus who kept saying you couldn't check your mail in Watchtower and only in the police stations (for heroes). I was like, yes you can check it in the Watchtower underneath the main wing bridge. Grrr lol.

Other than that, I think once all the bugs are ironed out, people should start to see smoothness and such and hopefully enjoy the game better.
