***Official DC Universe Online Thread***

Solo you need melee, but in groups is where i found ranged really grows. If you want to range i suggest kiting.

Some of the skills seemed a bit odd to me. First created a bow/nature char and kept getting melee skills. My basic tatcic seemed to be hover over mob while spamming right mouse button. Not vey exciting or involved. So, I then created a mind/mace guy and that seemed much more fun with the melee attacks and a few ranged.

If you want to do some serious fast melee damage, might I recommend dual wield. If you are an ice dps, this seriously works in your favour, I promise you ;) Same can be said for fire dps. But in the end it's entirely down to player preference so I am just giving you my versions. I am in the process of levelling up a fire dps to see how it compares with the ice dps I already have.

For nature healers (I have one myself), bow is recommended. Yes, it might seem a pain to keep hitting the right mouse button, but believe me, you are from a distance and are less susceptible(sp) to extensive damage. Just watch for any enemies that might come for you. But being at a distance you have safe knowledge you can heal without dying so quickly. Also with nature healers, be sure to switch to bug form for maximum healing power. Also to add, rifle is another really good weapon to use. For any role.

Great post, thanks. Played this until lvl 5 last night as fire/staff villian but may have a look at a few other roles before going any further. Only problem I had was getting ganked lots by higher levels, but thats the price you pay for being on a PvP server!

The best solution to that is get on the PVE server. When you are in the Watchtower, there is a Phase Shifter by the Central Hub in the Main Wing. You can go into PVP mode that way. So you can level up without being ganked. Just realised you said you rolled a up a villain so that would be Hall Of Doom for you. I can't tell you where in HoD you can phase shift. But believe me this is better than trying to level in the PVP server from the off. If you are in PVP, then phase to PVE and off you go :)

Anything useful in the store to get me premium access level? Not really into buying appearance stuff, want something gameplay related. Gots loads of station cash I bought at half price.

Other than the DLC (to get the Green Lantern power set) and 3 PVP characters (Asylum Joker, Future Harley Quinn and Future Batman), nothing really until new DLCs come out.

Server is down. Update on Facebook:

"We are currently investigating an outstanding issue with DCUO PC. We anticipate the server back up shortly. Thanks so much for your patience! [RadarX]"

That was about 10mins ago.

Epic...even the DCUO forums is down. Woohoo. Love me some maintenance :/

What about extra inventory and bank slots? Is it the type of game where I'll be carrying tons of stuff around?

If you go for Legendary you get 80 inventory item slots so you can carry a lot of stuff around. However, you can store items in the bank vaults should you need to if you only have Free or Premium access. I dont know how limited they are tho. But you can purchase more as you go along.

Basic has 28 inventory, 18 bank and 9 shared. Not really looking a Legendary access. Still got a COH sub and that be swiching to SW:ToR.

TBH that's what we had when the game first launched and I will say I never kept many of my items. I only let them stay cos I forget to sell/delete what I don't need til I have reached the max now which is 80.

The game is still randomly crashing for me in the starting area. No warning, then the game freezes and locks the system out forcing a hard-reboot with the little button. So I've deleted it and am going to try downloading it via Steam now and see if that works any better.

Am I right in guessing that I can still use the Hero I created in the 'stand alone' client if I download it anew via Steam?

yes cos it's tied to your SOE account.

Anyone having issues logging in, if you go to the Options in the Launcher, then Clear Cache. This will solve the hanging on the loading screen issue for you. Seems the game won't let you back using the last character you played with until you've done that. That being said, the queues were fine about an hour ago. Now, they are getting higher -__-

Nope doesn't work! Not really fussed, but glad to see SoE keeping up there reputation by going awol not even a word on their twitter, facebook or anything!

Ummm actually, they just updated on FB, Twitter and the forums with this:

The response to our Free to Play launch has been truly incredible. Since Tuesday we have increased the number of concurrent players by 1000%. We were definitely planning for a great response to the changes in the game, but these numbers have exceeded our already high expectations. We apologize for the current queues and we are working on additional equipment and optimizations to alleviate the issues. The DC Universe Online team has been working day and night to work through these challenges and will continue to make sure we create the best experience for our players. We very much appreciate your patience as we work to make these improvements.

I would suggest visiting the Forums themselves, cos there are tons, and I mean TONS of threads relating to the login issues and what not. Do not just assume SOE are not doing anything, cos they are.

**** poor to be honest! They should have anticipated that there was going to be a huge demand once it went f2p... how can they even think that 1 EU and 1 US server was going to be enough!

The problem was the fact they merged the servers when many people left. They should have indeed separated the servers and things would have been back to normal like at launch or just after. So who knows what they plan on doing since going F2P.

I did... when a game is going free especially one with a big name like DC i was expecting 2 pvp servers and 3 pve not1 of each. Look at lotro when they switched they added servers, its just smart to do so.

As I said previously, they did have separate servers from launch. Problem back then, was lots of people left (unable to afford, couldn't get used to the combat system, etc). So they merged the servers. This made it so people queuing for pvp and duos/alerts didn't have to wait for almost 30mins to 1hr to play those instances.

Yes, I agree that they should have added more servers when going F2P, but as stated, no one would have predicted such an increase in player base. Eventually, it will die down and people will wait for it to die down or play the likes of SWTOR when that is released next month. I have been ranting like a mad man myself the last week since going F2P, but even I am now coming to the idea that in the end, they just were not ready for such an influx of players. We'll give it time and see what happens. But, queuing for almost 30mins to get into the game is not my idea of an MMO experience.

Im having trouble getting past some of the bosses, im a villain plant powers with lex as my mentor. Im doing the instance in china town where i have to defeat the titans, managed to get to the 3rd titan after struggling to get past the two before and he just slaughters me... blocking and rolling doesnt seem to help me win just helps me survive longer. im level 9 and the quest is aparantly level 7..

Then you are doing something wrong my friend lol. Switch your load out to stuff that gives out high output damage and damage over time. Make sure you are specced into powers that do this otherwise it's worthless. Another thing...look for healing barrells and pop those bad boys at every chance you get...also you should be able to heal yourself if you are a plant villain, that means you are a nature healer...heal yourself as much as you can. keep a safe distance. What weapon are you using? Cos that will also be a big factor...if it's hand blasters, then range and kite. Don't try to be Rambo early on lol.

Take it from me, I can take out level 9 bosses even at level 10. So if you're unable to take out level 7 at level 9, something is not right. Follow what I've said and you should be fine :)

Guys, again anyone using this via Steam, just install the client launcher and run that instead of going via steam. I have it on Steam but I use the Launcher as a separate application instead of going via Steam itself. Just open the Launcher, then right click the icon on the taskbar and pin it (Windows 7 obviously). Job done :) I've not had any other downloads needed other than the initial 6GB last week when it went F2P.

New Producer update:

I wanted to give a quick update on where we stand on the concerns of most interest to the DC Universe Online community. The queues over the weekend where massive. There was a lot of folks knocking on the door and we know the wait could get long. We are working hard to optimize our systems to shorten the wait times and we will be deploying these improvements as we make them. We also had issues with folks getting into the queues after character create without proper notification that they were sitting in a line. We deployed a PC client patch earlier this evening that will address this issue and we will get it out to our PS3 players as soon as we have PlayStation signoff. The PS3 folks have promised a quick turnaround to help out our players. Additionally we have added a fix that should correct a condition that may cause you to not get fully into the game after character select (aka Loading Screen of Death). This is being deployed to our European Servers tonight and to the US Servers during the 4:00AM PT maintenance in the morning.

In the next couple of days we will be deploying other improvements like priority queuing for Legendary and Premium players, and soon we will be releasing Game Update 6 which has the conclusion to the Fortress of Solitude raid series and other game enhancements. We will continue to address concerns and enhance the game at a rapid rate moving forward. We are very excited about all of the new and returning players that have become part of the DCUO community. The free to Play launch has caused a lot of growing pains in a few short days but we will address the concerns and make every effort necessary to keep you playing and having fun in DC Universe Online.

See you in the game.

I got on late last light and despite being unable to log on using my main character, I got on with one of my other characters and was able to do a raid and an alert with minimal issues. Also no queues were to be seen. Which is good. Let's hope this continues and things get better.

One thing that really annoys me with this game for example immolation, enemies who attack you recieve damage and u get another skill which when immolation is active it causes nearby objects to catch fire and recieve DoT but... how do you know if a skill is still active? theres nothing to show it.

Trust me, you will know. I have a level 21 fire dps and I use a lot of DoT/AoE attacks. I can tell when the skill is active cos my character still has a swirl of flame around her. If you cannot see this, turn up the graphics settings to full. If you're on a PS3, I cannot help you there :p

the queue system, whilst being a pain, doesn't seem to take very long to countdown but the real problem is the terrible ingame lag everyone gets. The rubberbanding and warping makes it unplayable at peak times and with news that F2P gamers are going to be forced to the bottom of the list is adding salt to the wounds.

Got my PvP Sorcerer upto level 8 last night and had a lot of fun fighting Villan players in mid-air and along roof-tops, ofc there were some high levels flying around griefing but thats the norm on PvP servers.

What level do instances and things become available ?

You can join instances from level 9. When you hit level 9, you can get into Area 51 which is level 10 and above. From level 12, it's Gorilla Island, level 16 it's Hive Moon Base, level 20 is Oolong Island and level 23 is Bludhaven. Plus there is pvp instances in Legends and Arena from level 9 onwards. Just check your instances by pressing Y on keyboard (or whatever the key is on the pad) and you will see. You won't be able to do the harder alerts (known as T1 and T2), duos and raids until you've hit level 30 and obtained substantial gear for each one.

Things to take note after hitting 30:

Run duos and T1 alerts to gain marks of triumph to get Tier 1 armour. Once you've accumulated plenty of Tier 1 gear (which you can also pick up whilst doing said duos/alerts), you will then be ready to run T2 alerts and raids. Word of warning: to run the likes of Fortress Of Solitude raids, you need at least full Tier 2 gear. To obtain the Tier 2 armour, you run any of the following raids to obtain marks of distinction: Khandaq, Batcave: Outer Caverns, Batcave: Inner Sanctum, Batcave: Brainiac Sub Construct. The T2 alerts give out marks of distinction as well and these are: Oan Sciencells, Batcave: Outer Caverns, League Of Assassins Stronghold, Coast City, Star Labs, Hive Moon Base, Oolong Island.

Doing the Fortress Of Solitude raids will gain you marks of krypton to obtain the Tier 3 armour. As I said whilst doing these duos, alerts and raids, you will be picking up epic gear and weapons. Be sure to need on the role you are playing only. Those are the rules when doing these instances as no one likes a ninja looter. And it will not go unnoticed. Follow these guidelines and you will do well ;)

Another hotfix applied:

During the normal restarts for both EU (4 AM GMT) and US (4 AM PT) there will be a small hotfix. Downtime is anticipated to be less than one hour. Players may notice the following changes:

Priority Queueing for Legendary and Premium players is now available.
Legendary Players will have the fastest queue time.
Players should no longer experience lengthy respawn timers in the Arena.
Cooldown timers should no longer exceed their expected refresh time.
Players should no longer experience problems zoning within a zone and get the "Zone Unavailable" message.
