*****Official Deus Ex 3: Human Revolution discussion thread*****

First impressions from playing on a mates comp.

360 pad, aiming and doing things just way to slow, couldnt play like that. Well ok i did manage to do the first part of the game the tutorial or intro whatever it is that has the long boring conversations and stuff in with the pad but i just hated it as took far too long to aim or do anything.

KB and Mouse controls are ok, after patch.

Loading times improved after patch.

Intro was WAY to long and boring. The vid where he gets fixed up was pretty cool tho.

Far too much yellow in this game. Some gfx are little poor by design as in i was going to helipad and when i got outside and looked up at the building the windows/lights for the building looked really poor and looked like a kid just stuck glowy squares all over the building. :( Most of the textures and stuff is nice tho but their are some exceptions.

Gameplay. While i havent yet done any augments which i probably will waste and pick crap choices as i dont like these types of games, the inventory is a bit crap imo guns take up a lot of blocks cos of the size of the picture of the guns, how come they couldnt be smaller? lol Seems daft imo as they just make the pics bigger so u carry less stuff. :p

I HATE sneaking about. I did the bit where you take the one guy down. The next bit round the corner i took the first down silently but then got spotted while trying to decide whether to shoot or hide the body so i ended up tranquillising the other 2. The next part where you go in somewhere and theres a few more bad guys i took one down he was working on some boxes but then before i had a chance to think what to do the guard walking up and down came and spotted me. I tried to shoot at him but i couldnt hit him cos of the no sights and i was trying to middle click to get the sight up but it wouldnt come up and i was taking a lot of damage off 2 maybe 3 guys and died. Then i quit.

Either i will try again (unlikely) or reload it up and just try shooting em all with spray and prey as thats my type of fps game i enjoy not this sneaking crap. Tho i would have to find away to mod in some cross-hairs without using middle mouse button because i couldn't shoot for x without em in normal shooting mode.

Wish also that it had more colours in the game as its very dull with a lot of yellows.

Either i will try again

By your own admission, this game isn't for you. I wouldn't bother mate.

You can turn on crosshairs in the game options. There's plenty of run and gun shooters out there, no need to force yourself to play a game if you don't like it. If you're going to keep going with it maybe try turning down the difficulty so it's more forgiving to shooting your way through.

So far I've been really enjoying sneaking my way through knocking guards out.

Can't you shoot it out? Or blow it up with a grenade?

I've tried - it seems to be indestructible. :o

This is really irritating me now as I can't continue the main quest. It would appear that my only option is to restart the game.

So guys, keep extra saves and don't explore the Hung Hua hotel until the main quest sends you there. :(

Yeah serious with the impressions (not really a review lol). This is a play through the start with being very casual in mind with it. Evil, about not playing it as intended, well i only gave it a go because i read there was a lot of choice in the game so you can sneak or dont sneak or maybe even bypass it and go a diff route with no enemies or somit. So just tried the way i thought id play it.

Thanks for the info on crosshairs will try em. (edit hmm show reticle was on but didnt show a cross hairs afaik unless it means that tiny dot in the center all the time even without a gun being drawn out.)

Yeah not really my type of game but i have been trying it on a mates pc and just thought id post what i thought of it on here. If it was less sneaking and more action i think i would have enjoyed it better.

About the inventory and the gun image sizes, yeah i think they are a bit big and cover a lot of the blocks. Im sure other games like this and the original deus ex had em much smaller. I was using tranq gun, shotgun, sniper rifle. Not tried the pistol out yet, might be good to try tho next time im over which probs later tonite for a bit.

And yeah its on easiest level as i just wanted to fly through the game and enjoy the story mainly.

So either you are just plain crap at the game or you simply had no intention of playing it as its set out to be played.

Obviously both.;)

Nope.

Sniper rifles are generally bigger than grenades btw

Well it got down there somehow ><

I picked it up at the very start. Hung Hua was the first place I went and scoured every room. Came across that card long before I needed it.

The size of weapons is a bit weird but inventory management is part of the game. The most annoying part is the completely arbitrary stacking of items and the fact that they include ammo in the inventory. Like the way Mines stack in 3s but Grenades don't stack at all.

Point is to get the inventory upgrades if you want more space. Its not like Deus Ex where you can hold a GEP Gun, Sniper Rifle, Pistol, Assault Rifle, Assault Shotgun, Mini-Crossbow and a stack of each grenade type with room for a few more items.

I'm convinced it's a bug as I've used no explosives of any kind that could knock it down there. Maybe because I knocked the guard out and left without picking up the card?

About the inventory deus ex 1 wasnt as bad as you can see.

The 2nd biggest gun in deus ex picture took up 4 slots (bottom gun) and the sniper rifle in the new one takes up about 16.

I mean its just a inventory i know but really weird how they have gone about it i think.

I know exactly how big they were but it means nothing. Inventory management was never an issue in Deus Ex unless you tried to take far too many guns with you. You could happily hold on to a Pistol, Mini Crossbow, Assault Shotgun, Assault Rifle, Sniper Rifle, GEP Gun, Lams, Gas Grenades, EMP Grenades, Scramble Grenades, Medkits, Biocells, Lockpicks, Multitools, a Baton and still have a couple of spaces for Aug items.

It encourages you to only take gear if you actually intend to use it not to have a gun for every single situation possible.

Sorry, but i don't get where you are coming from at all with the inventory, guns might take up more slots, but there are more slots available!

As Evilsod said, it's part of the game, upgrading your inventory. I would even say it is a strength and a part of the choices you have in the game, for example i play as a stealth/hacker so i make the choice to have nuke worms, emp grenades and a stun gun taking up the slots instead of the laser rifle, which i would use if i was going all guns blazing. It is a part of the many different ways you can play the game

PS. Pretty sure the GEP gun, plasma gun and rocket launcher all took up more than 4 slots in the original too.

Well inventory was a very minor niggle so im not that bothered by it i just thought id bring it up thats all.

About crosshairs, lol im dumb. The tran and sniper guns dont have one but the pistol and shotgun did. But would have been nice to have crosshairs when not using the scopes for them weapons.

Please also stop with the negative posts against me, i know a lot of you are probably fans of the original and you like the new game and all but im coming from the side where i didnt really get on with the original deus ex and wanted to see if the new deus ex was better for me or not. So go easy. ;)

They're scoped weapons so its probably trying to hint that you should be using the scope if you ever plan on using it :p I guess its to offset the power of them too so you can't no-scope... at least easily.
