*****Official Deus Ex 3: Human Revolution discussion thread*****

Just bought the game and I'm a bit confused by the targeting. When I'm out of cover I get no reticule. When I'm in cover I do and when I lean out of cover it's gone again, the exact opposite of what I need.

Is this how it's designed to work? The reticule is on according to the menu.

Edit: it would seem that the tranq gun has no reticule, but the pistol does.

Easy..

Stop the download, Install the retail game into the steam folder that was being downloaded. Load up steam and it should go straight to 99% :p. Or just copy the retail installed game over the steam folder.

Make sure if you do copy it over that the folders are the same as with the steam download, otherwise it won't go to 99%

Played the game and really enjoyed it. Didn't have many problems with performance but it crashed quite frequently when loading into cut scenes.

It's not as open ended as I thought it would be, and the AI are pretty stupid but was a fun game. Took me 25 hours and I'll probably play through again at some point to get achievements and do the 2 sidequests I missed XD

It's Steamworks Neil. No retail copy. :p

The PDF is the usual way around the problem of games not installing from disks, you'll probably still need to patch though. I should really add it to the FAQ... :o

**Possible spoilers ahead**

Finally finished this yesterday and all I can say is  - what an excellent game.

Recaptured the first game brilliantly (as well as any modern game will I feel).

Went through with a mix of stealth and action - had maxed out most skills by the end, but found that hacking was almost essential (given the number of places it can be used), typhoon great for one-shotting bosses and the Icarus system just for the cool factor.

The ending, plot twists and decisions throughout were really neat. I was a little disappointed by the very end boss fight - had been saving up laser rifles, heavy weapons and grenades - yet all I needed to do was take a little cover and use the laser on the turrets and boss.

Loved the decision at the end, I was genuinely torn (chose Sarif in the end though).

Can't wait to start my next play through (maximum difficulty, going for 100% stealth and no alarms) - not many games I play these days that make me want to immediately start again. Good stuff.

I have a strange urge to try this on my PS3 at some point, after I've completed it on the PC first of course (currently in hangsha). There's just something quite interesting about using a controller for this one, and I can't put my finger on it. I was watching some videos of it on youtube (PS3/360 booths at various games events) and I felt compelled to try it on a console for some reason.:eek::p

One of the few games that I'm enjoying on the PC but want to try it on a console. Odd.

/Gets coat.

Argh!

There goes my non-lethal perfection!

The first scene on your second arrival in Hengshau? I can't help but one of the guys is killed by the robot's self-destruct. Ok, I didn't kill him directly, but I bet it still counts.

Tried about 8-10 times, and always one guys karks it from that damn 'droid's blast...

Ah well, role-playing-wise it's okay, I guess.

I see a lot of posts about performance issues.
Can I ask, what exactly is the problem? I literally have everything maxxed out including SSAO and all that and its silky smooth.

Am I missing some uber setting somewhere? The graphics are great in some areas but others they look a bit naff (e.g. I saw a bowl on a desk and it wasnt rounded well the polygon count must have been like 6 or something - unless it was intentionally a hexagonal bowl).
One thing is for sure, this is the most immersive game I have played in quite a while. First time I actually feel involved deeply in the game. Infact yesterday going to the police station, I absolutely loved the sneaking around to get to the armoury.

Great game so far :) I probably havent even scratched the surface.

I have it maxed out 100% too - most of the time it is very smooth, but occasionally and for no apparent reason it stutters like crazy. Very poor coding and my only complaint with the game.

I'm liking this game, but it has that clunky, non-valve feel to the turning / pov that puts me off so many games, I turned the sensitivity right down and it has overcome the problem somewhat.

I've got the hang of hacking now. I chose the hardest difficulty and you soon learn to use cover when in a firefight :D

Getgames.

Just returned to Detroit and finding it hard to tear myself away form the game. It is now, for me, GOTY so far. By a long stretch.

I think, looking back at the original, it excels it in some ways. I find the story more interesting and coherent. Also feel compelled to attempt it non-lethal.
