*****Official Deus Ex 3: Human Revolution discussion thread*****

Just to add, the DLC with the respec is TOTALLY seperate from the main game. It actually launches are a separate game also. So it's not like you are losing all the hard work you have already put in.

There is an achievement to complete the entire DLC without using praxis kits, explosives or weapons. Sounds like a challenge!

DLC?

It would surely take a long time, that is an incredible amount to do.

Sure, that's why I said check the feasibility first :)

Also "DLC" was maybe the wrong phrase to use as it has taken on different connotations now, I was meaning literally downloadable content (since you already have the core engine files) rather than some sort of cheapy addon. The idea was that basically all the characters, plot, dialogue, storyarcs, locations etc etc have already been created so it would be more of a technical exercise rather than having to create the actual game from scratch and test it for plot loopholes.

Reason I brought it up (admittedly as a crazy idea) was because Deus Ex is old enough now that there will be a new generation of gamers that haven't played it, heck because at the time it wasn't really a famous franchise it was a bit of a sleeper hit, I'm sure some people gave it a miss.

Obviously the game already exists and can stand on its own two feet, but modern gamers can be a fickle bunch and a modern engine might give it the boost and publicity it needs.

//Possible spoilers about the dlc;

Seems to be a clear rip out from the original game and make dlc to cash in, as it takes place before the end of the original, you know what's going on. Sure, it's a story being told and he's constantly asking about reed but you know what happens. To me it didn't have the mystique or development as before.

Regardless, it didn't stop me playing it and finishing it, 9.5hrs on steam, I'm sure a fair whack of it was alt tabbed or afk (I played stealth and explored everything). There's a lot of places where you need to carry boxes around to stack and get around if you dont' have the jump height aug. Even then some places might even need 1 box.

Tbh, if you haven't played any DXHR yet, play it, at the harbour after the "event" happens, play the DLC, the back to the original game. For me, that would simply extent the life of the game, despite there being some aug differntial from the dlc to original.

Also;
Eidos Montreal marketing said:
“The Missing Link is about a fresh start for Adam. New augs, new weapons, new situation as the underdog."

Either that was clever marketing or just poorly choiced words, there are no new augs, or weapons. That's not how you explain that, "you have to retrain all the augs you want again". Old augs, old weapons re-used.
He does say fresh start but meh, semantics.

As for the boss fights not sure what all the fuss is about, 3rd boss is supposed to be the hardest but it was the easiest for me, I just shot him 4 times with the grenade launcher and he died having barely moved from his starting position, all over in about 10 seconds. I guess if your character is heavily dependent on augs it might be tricky but as long as you have a powerful weapon it shouldn't be too difficult. Same goes for the first two bosses in fact, Boss1 I just threw out those remote explosive devices and blew him up, second boss I blazed away with Heavy Rifle before finishing her off with a couple of Typhoons.

The fuss is about when you go non-lethal and you dont have all those fancy weapons to fall back on. thats why the bosses are considered as cheap and totally irrelavent to the rest of the game.

No fuss, I went all non lethal(Hardest settings) and none of the bosses were difficult at all, I was quite surprised about the amount of people complaining about it. In at least 3 area's, there's things to use or pick up if you never had a lethal weapon.

My view is if you are running around with no decent weapons then you are asking for trouble, sooner or later a situation will develop where being able to shoot your way out will help. Even for non-stealth characters the same applies, that grenade launcher I mentioned was pretty bulky, I didn't want to have to carry it around with me as I hardly ever used it and it restricted the ammo I could carry for my main guns, but I kept hold of it because I figured it might come in handy. In pretty much all games I try to keep hold of a heavy weapon for emergencies if possible.... I didn't find myself in the position of having heavy firepower because I was playing a 'combat class', in normal play I hardly ever used that extra firepower, it was something I was saving up for a rainy day (which is why I quite like boss fights that don't require gimmicks to kill them - a chance to expend some of my stockpile!).

I dunno, maybe I just have a different way of thinking about games to some people, for me the Deus Ex games and indeed most games of this ilk were never about picking a "stealth route" or "rambo route", they were never about "good" or "evil" choices, it was just about doing trying to position myself best for every situation. I can see how if people thought they could go through the game with next to no weaponry it could be a little frustrating, maybe some of the marketing was misleading(?)

Which Guns?

Which guns are people carrying around for this?

I had the assault rifle which was pretty cool but I had to drop it because I have the pistol and crossbow for silence plus the revolver and shotgun for firepower. Just picked up the plasma rifle and am running short of space. Thinking of dropping the shotgun but I really like the punch it packs especially after all the upgrades.

I used pistol and machine pistol equipped with a silenced and other mods I played very stealthy and CQC, but sometimes I had to pick up other guns to get me out of trouble. Towards the ends of the game I put points into max equipments slots to make sure I did not miss out on any weapons.

OK finally finished my first playthrough after 86 hours according to Steam. What a game! Absolutely brilliant. Will have to replay it on hard now, I wish there were more games like this.

I was pretty thorough but must have missed one of the unique XP books as I didn't get the Doctorate achievement, was there a particularly sneaky one hidden somewhere?

Was thinking of getting The missing link DLC but at £9 its pretty steep.

Anyone found it cheaper anywhere? ( same price on GMG )

I'ts well worth the money. Just started it after finishing Rage. God, i'ts like coming home! Just so good to get back to a game that makes you think instead of just button smashing your way through. I very rarely play a game twice, but this I am. Will tide me over until Arkham is out on PC anyway.

I gave this game another try out, it just didn't quite hit the mark for me personally first time in. The graphics are good and some good fx etc not sure about the story? it's ok i suppose but i just can't get into this game, it's not doing anything for me personally. After a couple of hours in i'm still the same. I guess some games entertain and some don't. Not quite sure if i even liked the first deus ex?. Still, it had some good points just not enough to keep me playing.
