*****Official Deus Ex 3: Human Revolution discussion thread*****

Actually it was the other way round for me. My volts were increased for the OC so I had to decrease them to default values with stock clock speeds to make the game stable. Like you, nothing wrong with the OC in other games that are more demanding, unfortunately just Deus Ex:HR.

Interesting and more than a little weird that you only need to do this for one (not very demanding) game! As by reducing both freq. and voltage, you are obviously reducing the stress on the GPU a fair bit. Might try this out of interest and see what happens (though not holding my breath).

One point worth noting, is that there really isn't a "stock" voltage for any particular GPU. You can (and do) find exactly the same card (set at the same freq.) sold by two different manufacturers, will have a different voltage set for 3D. Take my card ... some come with as little as 1v and are fine, some come with 1.024v and others (like mine) come with 1.038v.

Life... never as simple as it should be ;)

PS. I did wonder if it was something to do with voltage management. So tried setting "prefer maximum performance" in the Power Management Mode in the Nvidia Control Panel. As a fair few times it CTD when switching from being in the Inventory back to the virtual world (so to speak). But appeared to make no difference.

Just playing through this again atm, noticing a hell of a lot of stuff I didn't see the first time, really enjoying it. I managed to find a few more missions that I missed the first time as well such as Talion A.D and I got the one about Jensens past as well as the Tong mission from the explosive pack.

I am just coming up to the point where The Missing Link will start but i am not sure whether I will do it now or go through it after completion, what do you think?

Oh and why the **** isn't it included in the main game? It is unbelievable!

Emmm.... I was wondering about this DLC myself!

Just a shame that the only way that I can get this game to run without any CTD (could be 10 seconds, could be 2 hours) is to switch to DX9 mode. I've tried every suggested tweak / supposed solution under the sun (even under clocking the graphics card). Crazy, as I've not had a single problem / glitch with any other game in some 5 months+ (it's not like the game gets an where near stressing my system like say, Crysis 2). Not like you miss that much (game looks a little "flatter"), got to admit (even though I think the gameplay is pretty reasonable) that the graphics look like something from a 5 year old X-box game. But I suppose that I would rather have "good gameplay" over pretty graphics anytime. I suppose the almost sepia tone gives it a sort of "charm".

Completed Missing Link last night. Overall it was pretty good dlc and I would say it is a decent add on to the game if not for one thing-

WHY IS IT NOT INTEGRATED IN TO THE MAIN GAME????????? Totally ridiculous!

Overall impressions of Missing Link-

Plus points:

-6 hours for the dlc was quite good imo. Definitely one of the better pieces of dlc I have played(considering I payed £3.99 for it).
-It links in nicely to the original Deus Ex with Gary Savage etc and adds a nice extra layer to the games events
-The environments imo are some of the best in the game.

Negative:
-Some of the parts of the main story mentioned seem out of place, as I played it after HR but it take place during it, as i said, it really should just have been added as part of the game, there is no reason for it not to be(like fallout dlc for example)
-No need to respec tbh.
-Too much wandering about in the complex and backtracking.
-Not as stable as Human Revolution. I never had a problem with HR, but this seems a bit jittery(just a bit) and a little less refined.

Overall i would say it is definitely worth around £8, which I believe is the normal price for it.

Just bought on Steam and have a few questions. Some spoilers too.

So I've got as far as killing the first big boss. Up to that point apart from him I've only killed 3 other people. The bent copper and the two stooges in the FEMA centre by the lockers (didn't actually mean to kill them either but held the button down too long and they were killed rather than stunned)

Is it worth playing the rest of the game like this? All stealth and not killing very often?

I've also taken to taking things more stealthy because in a stand up firefight I seem to get cut down really easy - I'm playing on normal. Two or three hits and I'm on the ground. Now, fair enough its not that realisitic storming into a room full of bad guys and spraying them with ammo until they go down but the few times I've been discovered and try and shoot my way out I get killed really quickly. Can I aug myself to be less vunerable? I've mostly increased my carrying load (although pointless as I've hardly shot anything) and my hacking skill.

yes play stealth is the only way to go really, if you get seen just reload - save often.
I will play the game again run and gun at some point but I cant imagine it will be anywhere near as fun or engaging as stealth play.
you shouldnt have to carry a single lethal weapon with you , just the two non-lethal ones.

"Is it worth playing the rest of the game like this? All stealth and not killing very often? "

In my opinion, no. If only because you have no choice but to stand up and be counted (IE. fight) at good old boss battle time. Mind you, once you've got the Typhoon augmentation, they are all ludicrously easy to beat! Plus looting dead bodies is one of the best ways to build up your amo supply.

"Can I aug myself to be less vunerable?"

Yes you can. One of the augmentation upgrades improves "armour".

Once about half way through, I think you will look back and think it's maybe got a bit too easy (normal difficulty setting).

Only my personal opinion guys.

Enjoy.

PS. If you should start getting CTD (Crash To Desktop) at some point running DX11. I personally would not bother looking for a solution, save yourself a lot of hassle and just run it in DX9 mode (not that great a difference anyway). See my posts earlier on.

PPS. What I tend to do. Is use stealth to scout things out and then if short of amo, double back and slaughter everyone (psycho ahoy!) Though individual play is what it's all about....

Cheers chaps many thanks.

I found myself particularly annoyed I couldn't pick up the rocket launcher as I didn't have enough space then thought whats the point, I'll never use it :D

As for non lethal - I've got the tranq rifle but not the tazer thingy. Only know it exists having watched on youtube someone tazering the first boss dude. He was an odd fight. Got absolutely pummelled the first few attempts then 1 grenade, a few random shots then another grenade and he went down - just as he threw his first grenade. Not sure if I actually hit him directly with the 2nd grenade as it exploded.

I like how the aug'd bird walks in the cut scenes. ;)

I was damned glad I kept my upgraded 10mm pistol with me when I came up against Barrett because I didn't seem to have a hope in hell of putting him down with tranq darts during his EMP grenade imposed downtime!

He's the only person I've killed so far.

I'm really enjoying this game though - great story. Two gripes though:

- The graphics look a bit too clean and colourful. I was hoping for more gritty Blade-Runner-esque environments.

- I felt a bit cheated dealing with the first boss. I don't think my sneaky character would have ended up in that situation tbh and I didn't like being forced into a confrontation. Fortunately (as in spoiler) I was able to deal with it.

Thing is the silenced 9mm will come in handy for stealth too. You can shoot the ground behind people and get them to turn around or walk away from their patrol route so you can sneak past or silent takedown. Even better when you use it with Cloak.

My last playthrough ended up exactly the same as my first, stealth but don't mind killing in certain situations. This time round though I didn't put any points in to cloak or armour.

I maxed out the power tree, which was quite good(but would be a lot better if all teh bars charged) also I maxed out the breather one as well, which makes you sprint further and makes gas grenades a little better as you don't have to worry about its effects on you. Also I maxed out the leg augs so I had extra sprint combined with silent running/jumping and more power so that I could sprint around silently taking people out. It was different to my first playthrough where i maxed hacking(i did still put quite a few in to it though)

I've just started playing this tonight and aside from what so far seems to be a good game accompanied with a solid frame rate, I do get quite irritating flickering yellow textures / lines. This is apparently an Nivida issue, and having a look around the internet unfortunately hasn't provided any concrete fixes as yet. Supposedly, turning off tessellation has been a solution for some; and in my case also seems to help quite a lot, though this doesn't completely eliminate the problem.

Has anyone else experienced the same? I have had a look on the forum, but as you can appreciate there's a lot of pages to trawl through on this thread. I am using Nivida drivers 285.62. Would turning off tessellation in this instance mean I lose out on some worthwhile eye candy?

Just completed after 42 hours. Sadly didn't get the Pacifist achievement but I can't for the life of me figure out why not. I went out of my way to not kill anyone (used all the nonlethal weapons and lethal for bosses only). :(

Bit gutted that the ending(s) don't give you any sort of epilogue between Jensen and Sarif/Taggart/Darrow and also Megan Reed
:(

This made me chuckle, took a screenie of it:

In the end I tried the 290.53 beta, and although these seemed to stop the corruption, the performance became less smooth than when compared to the previous driver I was using, 285.62. So, I decided to install the previous WHQL driver, 280.26, and can report almost no flickering / corruption issues thus far. :)
