*****Official Deus Ex 3: Human Revolution discussion thread*****

This is why i make - Thread when I post new games :p, thing is I don't have as much high interest in this game... yet

From what you gather? What exactly do you gather? What information do you have to base this claim on that Steam can ban your account for connecting via a VPN to activate a game 3 days early? It's not stealing. It's not piracy.

Plus, you have to sit in offline mode after you activate it if you want to disconnect from the VPN.

Do you have ANY information which backs up your claim or not? Because if not, you are fear mongering.
Only from what I've read, I don't keep links as a link back nor do I actually care to provide proof from what I've read, maybe I've misread or miss interpreted what I've read in the past.

iirc, Steam have removed region locked games from accounts. They have lots of issue for example with people buying Russian keys in bulk and selling them on in Europe. Wether or not they'd go so far as to take the same action with people exploiting regions with a VPN I couldn't say.

It's not a ban, but I'd rather give Valve no grounds on which to touch the contents of my account.

You do realise that Deus Ex 3 is region locked, right? Steam itself may not be, but the game is.

If you purchased the game on a UK IP, then your game is the UK region version of the game, not the US, so there's no guarantee the VPN will even work, and if you spoof your IP with a region locked game, Valve have all rights to ban your account or remove the game if the game even works.

Update: Reading back on that, apparently digital copies aren't region locked...

And this: http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/08/now-deus-ex-human-revolution-wont-be-region-locked-on-the-pc/

The game is NO longer region locked, and it never applied to digital copies.

Well I've submitted a ticket to Steam to find out as I'm interested now.

By the time you get a response, the game will have been released in the UK for about a week ;)

Really, there is no point for different release dates around the world. One of the most pointless things publishers do.

I don't see Steam having an issue with it, as the game isn't region locked. The plan never applied to digital copies anyway.

I have done it twice with games, and both games are still on my account with no problems :)

It isn't the publisher's fault. It is the fault of brick and mortar stores. In the US they get their deliveries midweek so that is when they release games whereas everywhere else in the world they release on a Friday so people dont take time off work.

Once again it is the fault of the USA and B&M stores.

That can't be the only reason. There are games that have launched on the same day worldwide.

So using the excuse of bricks and mortar stores is pathetic. If they deliveries midweek, then they can release it on the Friday...Not like they don't have some storage space.

Speak for yourself, i live in a dodgy Ukrainian server.

Tell them to install a new spellchecker, cheap ass Ukrainians :p

It has issues but it seems to be a pretty solid game. I'm not a fan of the chance thing in the hacking system and the takedown animations mostly look ridiculous and theres a significant lack of blood (something that should be a must on stealth games) but the Detroit hub had plenty in it to do and there does seem to be a wide range of possible approaches to levels.

So long as they make an effort throughout the rest of the game to make areas big with alternative routes and don't make it linear it'll do well.

Can someone explain if I physically purchase this game and play it through Steam can I then no longer sell it on once I'm done because its 'activated'?

In other words, there's no 2nd hand market.

They removed the region lock? Good.

But yeah, having staggered release dates are ridiculous. I wouldn't risk my Steam account over it, besides, it gives a few days for reviews to come in before I pre-order it so I know if it's actually a good game or not, and if it's worth the cash
