*****Official Deus Ex 3: Human Revolution discussion thread*****

There are a ton of places in the Detroit hub that need hacking and loads in some of the missions too. There are a few lvl5 locks in the city/apartment buildings and 1 in the helipad so yeah you would get quite a boost by doing it. I remember finding crossbow bolts in 1 room but no leads on a crossbow ><.

You can get a crossbow as apart of a mission you get off an undercover cop pretending to be a lady of the night in detroit you just need to do some lieing to keep it.

I thought that was about a stash in the 3rd mission? I'm sure I came across it but don't remember a Crossbow, unless it only spawns if you take that mission.

yeah that roo mwith the cross bow bolts is aprt of the missio nthat gets you the cross bow.

I still can't understand why modern games don't have destructible terrain... it would make gun fights so much better!

In fact, I remember Max Payne did, you could literally rip-up the environment with bullets and fire.

because it makes level design very hard.

ie why bother going all round the level when i could just make a bee line though all the walls.

You can still blow up doors you cant hack though :p

I'm still on the derelict row mission, as I was out earlier, but still enjoying it immensely. Even though this is the third time I've done this mission!

There is a level 4 lock near the LIMB clinic I also want to investigate. When I get the next hacking unlock.

Red faction geurllia and Armageddon were fully destructible I think..You could just smash your way from a to b...Wouldnt work well in stealth game.

I would like to see chips and bits fly off from explosions and gunshots though..Not total destruction just small scale.

Yeah small scale where screens, desk clutter, desks, minor Walls, containers etc get damaged and broken down. As it stands guns don't even rustle a piece of paper on a desk!

It would definitely add the immersion and as I say make gun fights tense and exciting, as is they're a bit sterile.

It's not enough to 'break' the game however as I'm very much enjoying it so far.

Nomal is £23 on greenmangaming and AE is £30 using the special 20% code on their front page. Not sure if I should get this game yet though.

When I login to Green Man Gaming, the currency changes to USD for some reason. The code still works but converting from $40 means it'll cost me £24.25 (rates from xe.com). I know £1.25 isn't the end of the world, but that extra quid and a bit is the difference between me getting it retail or persevering with Steam and waiting a couple of hours for it to download.

Can't seem to find anywhere to change the currency to GBP, though

EDIT: Just had a look at all the pre-order games the code can be used on, and Green Man Gaming have reduced the Augmented Edition by 16% to $49.99, which means it's the same price as the regular edition. I can get the Augmented Edition £5 cheaper because I'll be charged in USD :D

*Orders Augmented Edition*

one problem with minor destruction is how do you deal with it after?

You shoot up an apartment building will it still be shot up when you come by later with no one noticing, will it be magically fixed on re-entering with people saying "I'm amazed how quick they fixed this place up again".

If you keep it or have it in varying stages of repair over time, how will you deal with the very large amount of data needing saving.

This is getting tough trying to not kill anyone :p

Might have to find a silencer for my pistol, and do as stealthy as possible, with some silenced pistols kills ;)

Its not that bad data wise - you only need to save one instance of a destructed level and you'd only need to save the states of entities that could be affected by or spawned by destruction and strap it over the top of the original level definition at load time. Games like Quake 2 and Half-Life did this years ago on parts where you could backtrack.

just use the stun gun that thing is insane.

oh and one thing i noticed in the demo was, if you stunned the boss guy with it he stood there shaking for a second or 3.

would that be long enough to use a non lethal take down on him you think?

I can try it ;)

Update: You can non lethal take down sadly :( But it does give you time to throw a barrel at him ;) Or use a machine pistol or something. Like I did. Decided to play stealth, mainly not killing people, and killing some with my soon to be silenced pistol :D

Also, from where I am now, is all new game. But it's taken me several hours to get here!

If you're after the Pacifist achievement, killing bosses doesn't break your clean record :p

Well, the bosses are scripted to die usually ;) So I would hope it didn't break it! Also, I think I accidentally killed someone early on. So this play through won't be clean anymore :(

Ah well, there is always the next one ;) My girlfriend will want to see me playing this, so gives me an excuse :D Plus, I'm really enjoying it so far. Very good game.
