Official Devils Canyon review thread

I really hope these are better overclockers, with every new Intel CPU they seem to overclock worse, which reduces the advantage gained from new architecture or a die shrink.

I am still using a i7 920 D0 but am wanting to upgrade.

One the other hand, even if the overclocks are disappointing, for those including myself with a 4.5ghz 2700k. A Chip that will Boost to 4.4 GHZ when you need it that will be over 20% faster which would push the sandy into 5ghz territory+, but with a fraction of the power. The upgrade to gen3 PCIE, and a chance to upgrade 2x16 PCIE for future crossfire or SLI For hopefully take advantage better of the next generation cards 880TI r390x or titan types ect in the future is something to consider.

FINALLY!!

PCper, still, we're not at the regulars of Tech report, Anandtech etc.

I mean who jumps to Pcper for the latest hardware :p?

WHAT'S GOING ON.

Either an issue with NDA or the tests are dire and the reviewers are waiting for feedback from intel prior to release....

Load temps are a good bit better in that review. Though like others have said, ill wait to see a few more reviews and ones from ordinary users.

From the reviews so far it's a very defiant meh and a shrug of the shoulders, from me. It makes me wonder why Intel even bothered with the expense of improving the 4770k for all that "Devils Canyon" offers over it's predecessor.

So basically I'm going to have to wait until 2020 before there is something worth upgrading to from my 2500k.

Why only consider mainstream stuff? If you wanted a real upgrade there are other options. Haswell -E would be a massive upgrade from your 2500K and old motherboard.

New Chipset.
Quad channel Memory Support.
6+ CPU Cores.
SSD Raid 0 Native support.
All Sata 6GB/s Ports.
DDR4 Memory.
Broadwell -E 14nm Support.
Nice IPC performance boost over Sandybridge plus up to twice the cores.
Better performance VS Watt.
SSE4, AVX, VT, AESNI
No Crappy Integrated GPU.
Up to 40 PCIe Gen 3 Lanes 2x16+ 1x8 up to 3x8 Graphics.

If you just want mainstream, it's likely the next few years will still be quad cores, just with better IPC and use lower power. Nothing to exciting. If your after a real upgrade X99 would be the way forward.
