Minstadave i would really appreciate if u could post or send me a picture of what u had to do to ** arctic cooler to get it to work as if the mod isn't to hard will do the same when i get my arctic cool.
I'll do this this afternoon mate :)

I get similarly high temps like you duffman, my chipset was getting into high 40s and my PWMs are always around 55 degerees.

I modded the arctic cooler to throw some air at the chipset heatsink, this dropped temps a few degrees, and tidied cables to allow airflow over the 3 mosfet sinks but my PWMs are still very hot. Problem is that I don't know where the sensor is so I'm not sure what temperature its actually reading.

Other people are getting chipset and PWM temps in the 30s.

Thanks for the tip, Dave.

I'm not too worried about the chipset temp - it seems that the max is actually around 50C. Also, I've got a vantex stealth 120mm fan that I can use to blow air in it's general direction, once I get something to fix it in place (go go ghetto blue tack!).

The PWM temps are a bit more worrying - I've seen them above 60C a few times. My cables are undeniably a mess, so I'll tidy them up and see if that helps. Not easy to do a good cable tidy in the vapochill case though, as the PSU sits directly in front of the CPU, rather than in the section above the motherboard (the compressor is there).

Do yours 'feel' that hot to touch?

Just put a quiet 120mm fan blowing over the whole mofset are, temps have dropped 20 degrees on the PWM reading 60->40.

They did feel hot but not so hot I couldn't keep my finger on them.

hard drive is now totally clean with no linux stuff or anything else, i unplugged the dvd rw so now i have

amd 3000 + stock cooler
x850xt pe in pcie 1
audigy 2
karajan module plugged in
maxtor 160gb hd ide channel 1 master
liteon 52x cdrw ide 2 master
1x 512 stick in orange slot 2 ( second from top of board )

in bios i have changed ram to 200mhz everything else is auto
set boot sequence to cdrom floppy hdd
enabled usb mouse
turned off ac97
and i think everything else is default which is auto

i put the xp sp1 cd in it boots from the cd it says " now inspecting current hardware configuration" cd spins up really fast reads a bit then freezes on that screen cd spins down.

knoppix boot cd which should run straight from cd loads extremely slowly, when it gets to main knoppix gui it seems to freeze with knoppix in the background.

ultimate boot cd loads fine, from the menu i choose hard drive tools, then i choose maxtor maxblast 3. It loads up then near the end of the software load sequence it freezes.

tried floppy boot disc, loads up loads drivers for cd drives the proceeds to load genius mouse driver then freezes.

win98 old boot disk loads into dos fine but thats it, fdisk seems to work too.

i have tried all the procedures above without th eusb mouse plugged in haveing just the keyboard ps2.

on the m otherboard since im using only one graphics card do i need to change any jumpers on the motherboard as i have change none at all so far, graphics card is in pcie 1.

forgot to mention i have also set vdimm to 2.9 as this is what my memory supports

help!

Anyone having problems getting their Floppy drive to work?

I got my SLI-DR in yesterday and tried booting from a bootable floppy but it'll just hang!? Yet if I boot into Windows, I can access the floppy.

I've tried disconnecting the HDD and DVD drive and still the same thing.

What sort of PSU have you got? The new DFI boards are hungry fellas.

it lives! lol.

finally got off my backside tonight & replaced my EPoX EP-9NDA3+ mobo & X800XT with a UT NF4 SLI-D & XFX 6600 GT Extreme Gamers Ed, really sorry to see the back of my X800XT, but the GT's just a stop gap so what the hey.

anyway, had no problems what so ever, i was expecting some issues with my GSkill LE but everything was as smooth as silk, haven't even bothered flashing the bios yet. talking of which holy shiznet, there's a baffling array of bios options to wade through to say the least.

anyhoo, gonna leave the clocking till tomorrow, need to wade through this thread first & try & pick up any tips before i start stuffing up a fresh instal.

well that was one long day

i think i must have had every single thing go wrong, including several HDD problems, but i finally got it working :) , next i need to tidy up the wires as they're all over the place, and try a bit of overclocking.

wasn't a fun experience but atleast i learnt quite a few things today
