Official DFI NF4Ultra-D/SLi owners thread.

Has anybody installed vista on the DFI NF4 Ultra-D (or similar), as I need some help getting the audio to work properly?

Initially I get no audio, but after a few windows updates it works, only to crash the machine on a regular basis (blue screen of death). This also happens if I use the latest NVidia motherboard drivers.

I believe I'm using the Karajan audio module as opposed to the actual onboard sound (it's possible I've got it the wrong way round though). I've not had a chance to check the other one yet as it was getting late last night, but I'd appreciate any feedback from any one who has had similar issues with an NF4 board.
Do I simply need to switch audio module?
Are there any drivers that actually work?
Any other thoughts/comments?

Cheers
Dan

PS - Normally I'd try and get some more detailed info before asking all these questions, but I'm considering upgrading to Core 2 if it looks like there's no easy fix, and with it being bank holiday weekend, I'd need to get the order in at some point today.

that and the fact that C2D wont be pin compat with intels next gen. and AMDs new thing will be out in the not too distant.

if you;ve waited this long, might as well wait for those to appear. either the competition will provide lower prices for those new bits, or the current C2D systems will be even cheaper.

Thanks for all the help, the PC is now fully working :)

I thought I'd summarise what I had to do to get it working just in case any one else is having issues.

I was using the NVidia SPDIF out to hook up to my 5.1 speaker system but this was causing it to blue screen very frequently.
As was suggested above I had to install the Realtek Vista drivers from here and then I needed to switch the JP52 jumper on the mother board to 1+2 from 2+3.

For 2 x 512mb sticks in orange slots. It may take a couple of boot cycles to get into windows when you try at first.

Genie bios settings to try:-
fsb - 270
ldt ratio - x3.0
ldt width - 16 16
cpu/fsb - x9
pci exp - 100mhz
cool n quiet - disable
cpu startup - 1.425v
cpu vid control - 1.425
cpu special control - auto
ldt voltage - 1.3v
chipset voltage - 1.5v
dram voltage - 2.8v

dram config:-
dram freq set (divider's) - 140=ram/fsb:07/10
cpc - enable
put all other settings in this page to auto to try at first, you can tweak later if successful.

Post back with results!

I have not tried to run 3 sticks of ram so i'm not sure of this question other than to say you will lose dual channel and you will have to run at 2t (command per clock) which is slower than 1t. The extra ram may help negate some of this though. I can only suggest running a game with "fraps" enabled with both setups and compare the frames per second achieved.

Dont know if anyone can help me with this ive now got 2gig of ram
will these settings still be ok?

Thanks

Its been a long time since ive used my dfi board, but im pretty sure that will be fine. will only run your ram at 189mhz (ddr378) and most ram these days will be ddr400 min. the 150 (3/4) divider will give you 203mhz, a little closer to 200mhz, but this is assuming you have DDR400 2gig sticks. check what speed they are 1st and also what vdimm the rams should run, 2.8v sounds a little high to me.

this is the ram ive got ...what you think mate will it be ok?

Just change the ram divider to 3/4 (150Mhz) which will run your ram at 199Mhz (200Mhz is its stock speed so your near bang on) and knock the ram voltage back a wee bit to 2.6v and you should be sorted.
that should get you up and running.

Ok thanks ...Ill give that a try

so with me setting the divider to 3/4 do you think i could push it a little more maybe to 270 /280 fsb?

Also
Is tref of 3120 ok?

Thanks

I know its a different card but i'm using mine with an Audigy 2 ZS without a hitch, did leave the onboard audio attached and enabled?..... obvious thing to ask i know but no harm in checking.

Just picked up this board the other week off MM, its awesome.... i'm getting better OC's out the CPU on lower volts now... happy days!.. :D

Hey guys, just ordered a new CPU off OcUK (3800+ X2)

Now, this being the first CPU upgrade on my rig since I bought 3200 venice to handle my 2gb of ram, am I going to need an updated bios?

Anyone point me in the right direction of some updates or anything? Official bioses best? Or are there still custom ones around (it's been such a long time since messing around with my setup and just fancy a bit of seeing how far I can push this new chip when it arrives.
