How come you went for the 4000 SD?

I know most people would either buy the 3700 SD or the 3800 Venice. So I wanted to get some thing else, but couldn't afford the FX-55. But could afford the 4000 SD, not bothered about overclocking just yet, but I do have the option to do so in the future, as my new rig will be used for mainly playing games, hopefully to max settings ;)

Here is my new system

AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego 90nm (Socket 939)
Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 CPU Cooler (Socket 939)
DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard
Connect3D ATI Radeon X850 XT PE 256MB DDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
OCZ 1GB (2 x 512MB) EL PC5000 Dual Channel Platinum Series
Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA
LG Studioworks 700M 17 CRT MultiMedia Monitor
SoundBlaster Audigy2
Pioneer DVR-A07XLA
Pioneer DVR-109
Samsung 3.5" Floppy Disk Drive
Creative Inspire 6.1 6700
Antec NeoPower 480W ATX2.0 PSU
CoolerMaster Stacker STC-T01 with Side Window - Blue Trim
Coolermaster Cross Flow Fan
Coolermaster Stacker 4in3 Device Module

Hi guys,

I'll shortly be getting the DR and was wondering what graphics cards you are using with it. I'm thinking of going for either one or two 6800 GTs. Initially, I was going to get the Leadtek, but I understand there's a problem fitting this due to it's larger cooler, is that right ? Can a card with an Arctic Cooler fit, or does that have probs too ? I had considered the Zalman VF700Cu, but saw a review that showed it didn't cope with the heat of the GT/Ultra as well as that of the 6600 cards. Any advice?

MysticSniper, just so you know the Stacker case itself will already come with 1 x 4in3 device by default - just in case you thought it didn't and that was why you added it to your list :)

Im not sure whether you can run two artic coolers on two gfx cards with this mobo- there just isnt space between pci-e slots :(. This thread over at DFI street seems to confirm this:

http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9178&highlight=arctic+cooler

Probably better off looking at watercooling the gfx cards if you want to run SLI.

Also, be aware that some cards extend quite far back and are close to the NF4 chipset fan, so two could make things kinda warm in there.

I have a gigabyte 6800 ultra and to be honest, it copes with everything I have thrown at it so far- no need for SLI other than bragging rights. The only criticism I have is that the fan is a lil noisey (although I had totally silenced my last rig so it might not be that bad!!). I was considering a Zalman but if they don't handle the heat like you say then Ill just have to turn up the speakers :)

hope this helps.

...and if you have waaayyyy to much money to burn :)

Seriously though, even a top end 1 card solution from either ATI or Nvidia will quite happily handle any of the current round of modern games at 1600 x 1200 res still with reasonable image/texture/aa quality.

If you must go for a SLI then at least buy the 2nd card somewhere slightly further into the future when games come out that will actually NEED the power of two cards :)

Yes, I was looking at the Zalman, until I saw this article .... http://techreport.com/reviews/2005q2/zalman-vf700s/index.x?pg=1

Well I plan to overclock the nuts of my 3700 SD :D

I like best bang for buck personally ;)

I could have FX57 performace (or more hopefully) for £240

me too :)

I was'nt even tempted by the 4000, but if my SD sucks then I might change.

Anyone seen a SD core with the IHS removed ???, I plan on doing mine and just wanted to make sure its still possible, want to avoid any horror of IHS from P4 m0 steppings. Can't see AMD changing myself - but better to be safe etc...

Also does anyone's tracking number for OCUK actualy work ??????????

Cheers for the linkage Youstolemyname. From the TechReport article, it seems that if you're running 6800 GT/Ultras, the only benefit of the VF700Cu, is a reduction in noise, and the other models were worse than the stock cooler!

@Scoobie Dave

lol mate :) I forgot to add 'but those bragging rights are oh so sweet'

Ill be investing in another 6800ultra for xmas :)

The gigabyte one i have runs at 425/1100 out the box and was only 330 quid

If i can get another one of those then ill be a happy bunny

OK I opted for 414-1 BIOS.

Just got some 4400 TCCD too, so still playing with that, but 10x 270 @ 1.4v is solid on for this 3700 SD so far.

I have not removed IHS as yet- but i do intend too.

Hi there.

I've not read the whole of this thread, so apologies first for that. I have spent a hell of a lot of time trying to get this Mobo working.

Here's what my problem is:

Motherboard: NF4 SLI DR

Part number: NF4S 91-200

Serial number: u51008282

Revision number: AA0

Overview of problem:

System will boot in SAFE mode but not in normal mode with the following system configuration. In normal mode, reboot occurs after Win XP start up screen (black screen w/ blue progress bar). Recreatable in all hardware configurations and default motherboard settings at all times.

System configuration:

Antec NeoPower 480W ATX2.0 PSU (NEW from OCuk)
LedtekWinfast GeForce 6800 256MB DDR (NEW from OCuk) (Also tried with a Geforce 6600 and no difference)
Corsair 1GB DDR XMS200XL Platinum TwinX (2X512MB) (NEW from OCuk) (Also tried with Crucial RAM and no difference)
AMD Athlon 3200+ Winchester 90nm (Socket 939) – Retail with standard Heatsink/fan (NEW from OCuk)
A Hitachi Deskstar 7200 80gig IDE HDD
An IBM Deskstar 7200 80gig IDE HDD
2 optical drives (1XCDR 1XDVD)
1 x floppy drive
1 x Firewire 400 card
Coolermaster 201 ACTS case.
OS - Windows XP Pro SP2.

Attempted fixes:
1. Implemented the Diamond BIOS flash from DFI website using floppy disc successfully.
2. Tried alternative RAM (Crucial DDR 2700 2X256Mb) but exactly the same issue occurs.
3. Tried alternative GPU (Geforce 6600), but exactly the same issue occurs.
4. On suggestion of Overclockers UK customer service, ran Memtest 86 application on both new RAM (Corsair) and old RAM (Crucial), separately. Ran 9 passes on each set of RAM and no errors reported.

Advised by Overclockers CS to enter DFI RMA process and have tried to complete this but got rejected. Then have tried to use the 'Mail to Engineer' function and online form but everytime I finish completing the form and click send I get a JSP error...

I've tried speaking with the guys at DFI in the Netherlands on the phone but they keep telling me the same things - fill out the online form or they can't help...When I got the JSP error first time I called and someone said send it to [email protected] and they'd deal with it that way. That was over a week ago ( Mon 25th).

At the last count I have filled the form in 4 times and had the same JSP error... the last time I called yesterday, I said I was getting upset (still remaing calm), and the lady I spoke to said she'd look into it and give me a call back....

Suffice to say, she didn't call back and I've still had no response via email or phone....

Help me, youse guys...

:(

Otherwise it's going to be an RMA to OCuk.
