Official DFI NF4Ultra-D/SLi owners thread.

Couple of things that Im unsure you have tried but assumed you have...

1) Used a single stick of RAM for best compatibility...
2) Run it with the barest amount of hardware required for WinXP install (RAM, GFX, 1x HD, Floppy, DVD, latest necessary drivers)...
3) Tried WinXP SP1 if you have access to it - I still personally wouldnt touch SP2 - but Im ignorant :P...

Tried updating Java or using a friends computer to log that form? I would also replicate your post at DFI street to double your chances...

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can help...

Jaffa Jim,

Since you didn't mention it...

Are you trying to run all this new hardware on a brand new install of WinXP or one from a previous setup?

Reason I ask is that usually if you go with an old install of WinXP and change key components such as the mobo, cpu, gfx + others altogether then you are very likely to get the kind of problems you are experiencing. It's all to do with drivers and other resources that the old install of WinXP was expecting to find but can't because the user has replaced that particular hardware.

However, if you put all this hardware together with a blank HDD and installed WinXP fresh onto it then for sure you should not be getting this much trouble.

I did try with only one stick and also managed to get XP installed with SP2 before it all started going **** up. It all went wrong when I connected a second HDD with all my old data on it. Problem is that after that, nothing I did seemed to do any good.

I'm using Firefox (latest version all updates) - could that be the reason Java isn't working?

As you say, I hope someone who's been through it too can shed some light...

Hi,

I don't currently own the NF4 series of DFI motherboards but am going to convert from 754 to 939 shortly.

I was going to get the DFI Ultra but I've just been on DFI-street and read that you need at least an 480W power supply. Currently I have an OCZ 420W powerstream. Is this up to the task or will I also need a new power supply?

Cheers for any help

timko, thanks for your response.

It was a fresh install of XP. I even got a mate of mine, who lives and breathes PCs, and it defeated him.

Hence, why I couldn't believe that DFI rejected the RMA request but have blatantly not assisted me...weird way to behave towards a customer???

This might sound a little obvious, but I like to know that im thinking straight. Can different bios's determine how good of an overclock you get with your cpu?
Im currently using a 4.14-1 beta. It says 'Added support for Venice and San Diego Cool n Quiet (TCCD)' so I thought I would give it a go. . .

yes they can and they can totaly play havoc with your memory.

I have gone for 414-1, but 414-3 might be another option.

So does a bios only effect how well your memory overclocks?

A BIOS can affect everything, not just mem or CPU overclocks m8.

A good BIOS is sometimes a trade off - slightly less bandwidth at same mhz but gains in how high it will go make up for it.

Thanks for clearing that up. :)

Just got the SLI-DR mobo with AA0 revision code, along with a 3700 SD.
Am I gonna have any issues with getting this to boot to BIOS to be able to flash the BIOS to latest ie. no post?

I've got a Newcastle knocking about that I can stick in to get it to boot if it won't play ball with the SD.
