Official DFI NF4Ultra-D/SLi owners thread.

I've recently acquired an Ultra-D which I have been attempting to use with dual Mushkin XP4000 BH5? memory. I have installed windows 98 with great difficulty but I have stability problems and it won't post, the loading screen freezes the instant it appears. I also have a problem with the power button working on the Eclipse case, maybe that part of the board has been fried?
I suspect the memory is undervolted but the voltage keeps resetting to 2.6v now and again or windows 98 has issues with it.
I am using:
Maxtor 300g 16mb SATA, San Diego 4000+, Noisetaker 600w, ATI 800XT
Hopefully I've solve this by Monday.

TBH I can't understand why you would want to run win98, very minimum would be SE and I would'nt recomend anything older then win2K.

But back to your problem.
Please read the very very first post, it has a lot of info in it.
As for power button, check to see if the onboard power button works ok, might be faulty case switch - i have had this happen.

Your mem is Hynix D5 btw.

Again BIOS 414-3 needed IMO

None of the settings posted on that site work, bios doesn't help at all, system is still unstabe at any speed.

Self defeatist - there are lots of thread on the liks I gave you regarding settings/help - no way you could have tried all of them already.

I sugest you RMA your ram and buy something easier for you.

I'm a hardware reviewer for one of the largest and best known review sites ;) I dont give up easily and I work exceptionally fast, I cannot get this one stable no matter what. Will try exchanging the RAM shortly for another batch of 4400, that will at least eliminate one component.

Okay this is REALLY hacking me off now, I cant get 305 mhz stable @ 1:1 with a x9 multi even at REALLY slack timings.

285x10, 2.5-4-3-7 with decent timings is okay.

Ah this is driving me up the wall :(

Should I make a post on overclocking & Cooling asking for SD + TCCD owners to post there results?

Concorde :(

Concorde, yeah just post a thread. I remember Scoobie Dave also has an SD and G.Skill TCCD. He was having trouble obtaining 300Mhz speeds and stability so you'll be helping him out too :)

Spent the last few hours testing out memory. Memtest fails on either my XMS4000 or 4400 at anything past 242 fsb regardless of CPU multiplier, HTT multiplier and voltages. Despite memtest not failing at under these speeds I can no longer attain *any* stability even at stock with either set of RAM. The XMS4000 has been sitting in a Shuttle AN51R with a 3400+ for a good 5 months running at 250fsb so I very much doubt its both sets of memory that are shot, is it likely to be the board or CPU? I have no spare CPU or 939 board lying around to test out sadly :/ Any advice would be appreciated.

Gents~ I'm having problems flashing from the 1/25/05 shipped with an Ultra-D

Downloaded the 414-3 bios file from DFI , formatted and created bootable new floppy and extracted Bios file to said floppy ( all files awdflash/414-3/XPbootfiles app correct)

Boot to floppy drive

Run at a> prompt awdflash N4D414-3 /py /sn /cd /cp /cc /ld /r /f

Keep getting N4D414-3 highlighted and error message " couldnt read file "

Any ideas gents ??? Don't think its corrupted.

Also whats the best command to enter at the subsequent a> prompt from this error message to re boot ?

TheMoon

The best method of flashing i've used is winflash.

just run the program, point it in the direction of the .bin file and let it do the rest.

just check the "reset CMOS" box.

When its finished, then re-boot and your all flashed :D

You can find a guide and the util here

sorry guys but i could do with some advice please i am pretty new to this over clocking
have got a64 3500+ winnie
dfi ut ultra d
1gb geil value ram
i know the ram will hold me back ,but spent to much on graphics card lol
anyway am struggling to get htt past 280
so far cpu 2653 htt 279 ram on 133 divider at 176
cpu is at 1.5v the ram craps out at 224 on 1:1 timings i am trying to up ram timings and htt ? what sort off volts can i give ram and what timings should i set them at please , and do you think i could get htt any higher .im on bios 310 version . any advice greatly appreciated cheers

Anything up to 2.9V on the ram should be fine, up the LDT and Chipset Voltage +1.

Lower the HTT/LDT multi to 3.

However it may just be your CPU, have you tested with S&M? OCCT? ALso What are your temps?

Concorde

TheMoon,

You could also try the bootable CD ISO (burn to CD first) image that contains all the recent DFI NF3 bioses. It's easy to use and you don't have to type in an essay's worth of command line switches to get it working. It's all done for you with a simple batch file so you only have to type in one keywork (relating to the bios version you want) and then sit back and relax as it flashes...

Mate I have read on several sites that this Rev of board should be returned straight away. :(

I would maybe ring OcUK first (if you bought it from them) if not get onto DFI forums and ask a mod there :(

Hope it turns out to be ok mate.

Cashman m8ty would you ( or anyone else informed) post any links to this information please.

I haven't been able to find anything on DFI's website .

Looks like I have a ****** RA00  which might explain the boot from cold problems I'm having :(
