****Official Doom 4 Thread****

That makes no sense. What relation does a cover system and perks have to the things he mentioned that are lacking . They are nothing to with story, characters or immersion. Plus this game does kinda have perks, with all the different weapon mod and suit upgrades.

Because he can't counter my points, so comes in with humour.

It's a weak game, no doubt about it.

I disagree...

It's a nice balance of simplicity and blowing stuff up...

It's not a intricate novel...it's a comic book blast fest...

This doesn't mean it's bad...on any level...in fact I'm loving it and think fallout is dull as it's just too big...

Simple is the word alright. If this wasn't DOOM you lot wouldn't give this a second thought. It's OK though..because it's bringing back gameplay elements/styles from 20 years go! Cool.

Wrong, Serious Sam was also arguably in the same vein as doom and it was a game that people liked a lot. In a gaming era where people are so used to being led around by the nose and everything being centered around military themed modern combat this is a welcome departure from that.

What balance is there between simple and blowing stuff up? That's about as basic as gameplay can get. It needs more for it to be anything other than a below average game.

I agree about Fallout 4.

Not wrong..i just hold a different opinion than you.

I'm not telling you that you should dislike this game. And 'people' means nothing to me..I don't like DOOM...or Serious Sam for that matter.

You don't need any hand-holding in this game, as it's SO simple. Your point there isn't really relevant. If it was some super-complicated FPS, then maybe.

Wrong meaning that "if this wasn't doom we wouldn't give it a second thought". As I said serious Sam wasn't doom, had simple gameplay and was very popular.

Weapon swap for starters...

I haven't the time to play open world games...give me Wolfenstein , Doom, call of Juarez gunslinger anytime of the day...

I got fed up with Farcry 4 but I know I'll finish Doom as it won't outstay it's welcome.

It's just a hoot.

Still wonder how this will be received by critics, see a mixture of opinions here. I know scores dont count for much but sounds like a 7/10 so pretty good! Kind if want to get it as a graphical showcase but will hold off for now

Watching some gameplay on the youtube channel "mackscorner", this is the same guy who does the "worthabuy" reviews. Starting to wonder how much of a clue he actually has about games after watching him play this. He's playing and has a load of stuff unbound (and for some reason acting like its the games fault), doesn't like to do glory kills (and apparently those are why its "consolised", he also has some really weird key setups for them). Just seems odd that someone who seems informed on other videos doesn't seem to have much of a clue about this. Spends about 5 minutes gibbering about the mouse sensitivity before even moving out of the room you wake up in. Only about half an hour into his first video on this but be interesting to see if he figures it out.

ed: 31 mins in he finally figures out glory kills get you ammo and health...

I told him as much. Just don't think he approaches games with an open mind anymore. I think it might be to do with his fans who he live streams his first impressions with, there seems to be a core bunch of hangers on who always want him to neg the stuff. His videos used to put me in creases so it's a shame he is losing it....

Another couple of hours playing and at ultra @ 3440 x 1440 the fps doesn't dip below 70 and says mostly at 90-100 fps. That's with my 980 Ti in my old i5 3570K motherboard as the X99 mobo died and went by via RMA.

I'm old enough to have played all the Doom games from release and this is everything I could hope from a Doom game. There was never any back story, fancy cinemanics or game mechanics back then just demon killing, boss fights and finding secrets.

There's plenty of info in the codex if you want to read it and the secrets are actually well worth finding as I found the plasma rifle very early and several suit upgrades. OK the map system makes that a lot easier but personally I wouldn't blindly search for secrets anyway I just don't have the patience anymore.

Reminds me of the new Wolfenstein stuff, with more exploration / secrets, less cut-scenes, and no hit-scan weapons to worry about :)

Good fun. A bit on the easy side. If you're an experienced Quake player, you got to start on Ultra Violence.

What are your specs?

UP: sorry, didn't notice them. Well, I guess the best option here - buy the game and check if it works OK for you. In other case just get moneyback ;)

If this wasn't DOOM you lot wouldn't give this a second thought.

But it very much is DOOM, and that's exactly the point! Its just what I was hoping for and I'm loving it!

Probably no point in trying to convince you otherwise if you don't like it, and at the same time little point in you trying to tell people they are wrong for loving it. Though I am surprised you'd purchase the game if you felt this way without maybe waiting for some reviews, as I don't think there was any suggestion it was going to be anything other than DOOM.
