How different are the ranked matches than unranked, in terms of difficulty? I've played around 500 games on unranked, and enjoy it a lot but I'm epically incompetent and showing little signs of improving.

I'd hate to go into a Captain's ranked match and be assigned a class which I'm hopeless at (which is well.. almost all of them) and be responsible for losing the game.

You're like 75% of the people on ranked, you will fit right in :)

People just play it like it were un ranked.

At 3.5k MMR anyway, can't comment on higher up.

Both are matched in terms of skill level, so they should be around the same in terms of difficulty.

What're the current pubstomp heroes? I've been playing random which is always interesting, despite hitting Disruptor a few times in one night, and I've been introduced to some new heroes.

Looking to branch out into some reliable heroes that are pretty easy to play, standard lane builds and hurt most of the heroes I'm likely to face.

When a new hero is released it will generally be OP for a few weeks-months until it is balanced. Ember Spirit, Earth Spirit, Terrorblade to name a few. These have now been fixed though. I can't even remember how long it took to fix Huskar, seemed like freakin ages.

As for current pub-stomp heros, this is a bit tricky as there aren't any heros that strike me as ridiculously OP. Invoker is consistently good, Quas-Wex is very nice for the EMP and control but then again Invoker isn't easy to play.

You could maybe try Viper as that hero is AIDS to play against. If you go mid make Mek, Sceptre, Manta. Very easy to play and last-hit with Nethertoxin. You can skip the Mek if you like but I really like the utility and stats/regen it provides. One thing is Viper is very squishy and he exels when he is around in a fight long enough to go to work.

I think rather than having one hero that excels at pub-stomping it's better to counter-pick e.g. picking Bloodseeker against Slark, Huskar vs Pudge, Invoker vs Wraith King, Timber vs Brood etc. Once you get to know counters you'll be fine

EDIT: How silly of me to forget. Phoenix offlane!! Pub stomp right there

Counters are a good idea and something I'd not thought about. Huskar still seems a little OP when I play against people that don't understand his mechanics. I randomed him not too long back and had a great game - my only death being too cocky at the end of the match and storming their respawn point.

So....Techies are coming.

Played a game tonight. Our mid lvl 8 Puck VS. lvl 146 OD. The OD player had around 1200 wins. You can imagine what happened. Valve matchmaking at its finest xD

Got my first win as NP. Played really well, had garbage stats (1/5/16 most assists though) but I got 8 of 11 towers down solo and was map hopping loads to push and cause them loads of grief.

Good tips from in here helped a lot. Went phase boots>gloves>full Midas>desolator>aghs and was working on deadleus when we won.

Cheers for the tips!

aghs isn't really that great. Sheep/Necro/Shadow blade would all be better.

When jungling NP I'd usually go midas, brown boots then shadow blade and decide whats best from there.

Someone recommended phase for the extra damage early game and whilst I'm not a min/maxer things did tend to go down faster.

I did think end of game I should have picked up Necro especially when my focus was on the push.

I did get Shadowblade, thought I was forgetting something :p

Been moving flat since Wednesday and only got to jump on last night to quickly check my compendium. Funnily enough I put your game on in the background newts seeing as you were up late :D Was going to message you to say going aggs was kind of a waste on NP.

Necro 3 would have been much better seeing as you were going full split push :)

Really hope I get a chance to play tonight.

I'm shying away from ranked for now as I get too irritated, playing all random and just experimenting and having a bit fun.

Amazing game, best game of dota for me.

We lost after 1 hour and 25 minutes :p we won k/d 84/40 but they had better push and stuns so we struggled to take out their base.

Amazing back and firth game, ended 19/5/42 as Storm Spirit just wish I had been more aggressive. In retrospect I backed out too quickly and could have knocked out barracks more. We would have edged it but they got better creeps to early and half our game was D from then on :p

I had Broodmother as one of my compendium heroes, never played her before.

Now she is one of my favourite heroes, have to take care when picking her as she is easily countered, but she is really fun to play.

The one big issues is you're pretty much making your team play 4v5 most of the game, as away from your webs you're useless, but I'm really enjoying her and have got a load of wins with her now.

The new evasion on her passive definitely helps.

I think it's just the MMR difference. I know back when I was new to the game it was a bit frustrating for vet players to play with the newbies.

I am just showing a friend dota 2 and I get how after a few games you just want a game on your own with other people the same level as you as it can be quite hard to teach people things like camp pulling, ward placements, etc etc in a 5 v 5 game.
