Had some fun games last night with OCuK'ers. I'm getting the hang of the basics now, I need to learn positioning and when to best buy items now, because I seem to sit on a bit too much gold. I think I'll stick with support until I get better.

the problem is a lot of new players will just buy boots straight off and then save up for some larger items. however, stats at the beginning and health/mana items are more important.

I watched a lot of Purge video's on classes I wanted to play (which is how I learned how to play visage recently) and it definitely helped.

if you invest the time into this game, it's extremely fun.

I probably fall in to that bracket. The mobility sometimes compensates for my lack of positioning but as that gets better I'm sure I'll focus more on the stats.

I use the buy queue all the time, extremely useful for those "oh lord, need to use up all my un-reliable gold instantly" moments. If you're mastering support it's extremely rare for force staff not to be a good item and even better, you can disassemble tranquils to make part of it too (and then turn bos into something like mana boots).

I always go stats at the start, it's midgame where I'm unsure what to buy and when, which leaves me a bit behind.

I want to give earth shaker a try again, I played him when I first started months ago, and enjoyed him.

When you go into a game in the top left there is a book, if you click that then you arrow it gives you a choice of guides that people have made for the character. I usually use them for most characters.

Been playing Dota 2 for approx 4 days now, played 14 matches and have won 7 of them (4 out of the last 5 won) Sticking with limited Heroes for now
Think im doing pretty well, playing as Viper mostly and played as Ven Spirit and Tide

Just trying to get better item selections midgame, ive accidentally bought a couple expensive items which dont stack by mistake

Will give it a bash.

Looking forward to some more games later, will hopefully be able to chat on mumble this time around.

Kinda disappointed I didn't get an item in either of the games I played yesterday, everyone else seemed to.

I find the in game builds are usually pretty good, just select the highest rated one (unless there one for a style you rather play).

Then i'll just buy the items recommended in the build, always looking at what those items can break down into to build them in smaller pieces. That way i'm spending gold more regularly rather than stockpiling it and getting the smaller bonuses more regularly while building up to the completed item.

Keep in mind i'm pretty new to this so it might be terrible advice! But its worked for me so far :p

Should be on for a bit tonight got tomorrow off, supports a good role to play starting out i think. Very rare you get a decent support in pub games so just putting down wards, harassing, helping gank, buying support items, pulling creeps etc makes a huge difference so you can be a big help even if your new to the game.

Indeed.

It was fun playing last night. Was an extremely friendly atmosphere which is sometimes absent in MOBA games.

Support is definitely the easiest to be helpful while not directly helping. As you say, buying wards, couriers and generally just niggling at the opposition all counts.

I'm on too, now I've finished the training games I'm a little lost on what to do next. Play more limited hero games or jump into the select all queue?

I'm playing this as well, decided to stick with this instead of LOL as cant be bothered to unlock heroes and matches seem faster.

I played my first match with other players and it wasnt so bad, we lost as some guy left but never mind. Got some assists, was funny watching the people playing exactly the heroes advised not to(by a video) in exactly the way not to, Skeleton King and Invisible Bandit guy.

3 good games tonight, taking 2 and narrowly missing out on the other. Highlights:

Being 1 shot by Kunkka splash
CK being chased, pulling off a Sochshka creep stun but still escaping Benny Hill style

The limited heroes will give you experience of a decent array of 20 heroes and none of them have really complicated mechanics so I'd suggest starting there. At least you won't be facing things like dark seer or huskar for a bit.

Had an enjoyable game as dark seer last night. I think he's my favourite hero so far, I got in some good ulti's, I liked using purge to dodge tides ulti, nice reaction of "dat dodge".

Gonna practise more with him later.
