*** Official Dota 2 Thread ***

If you want 5 thought out choices then you really shouldn't be playing All Pick at all. The picks are usually pretty dumb.

I random a lot of the time in AP just because I don't know who I want to play and I am still learning a lot of heroes.

**** that, random is used for learning, you go to play them at some stage, if you want 'synergy' go play in a 5 stack. Random if you want, its not there to be not used.

Doing it as a last pick when you have 3 carries already is a bit dim though, just do it early

If learning is your argument here then what is wrong with the library/training bots/selecting a character you don't normally play/random/least played mode

Having a team blindly clicking random for the sake of it never ends well in AP. Chances are the other team will take advantage with their picks after that.

That's exactly why I play 5 stack as much as possible, but people aren't always available.

In general I'm happy to take whatever people would prefer I took (excluding Chen/Enc/Meepo :P). Giving advice might be fairly tough midgame (and if you're losing then you probably arn't going to want to hear that your first item choice is fairly questionable). The time at the start and end of the game would probably suffice for most though.

The one thing that has happened a bit is "Battlefury first" syndrome - you need to be both a very good last hitter and know you will have time after acquiring it (because your team is constantly exerting pressure on the map or extending the laning phase) to make it worth it. Realistically if you don't get this by 18-20 mins you passed the window of effectiveness. For those beginning in dota, I highly recommend you don't bother with this. You're crippling yourself when instead you could grab some decent early stats (drums and boots is never wrong) and go for a great midgame into a finish.

If your guide has first item battlefury please ask someone else to confirm that this is a good idea considering your skill. Even if you just got a ring of health on AM you don't need to turn every ring into a BF, if it kept you alive in lane then it's job is done.

Hey Myshra you are clearly clued up and I have no problems with people wanting to win, even when playing in house but at the moment I am not learning much playing in-house because there isn't enough constructive advice being given. Some decent thoughts after the game but during the game it's basically (Get on with it!)

There is also a difference between someone saying, hey CAI, could you pick up x, y, z item and try this or try that. Instead of hearing people whine/groaning into the mic)

Not saying you are the one whining by the way. Like I said earlier there are clearly experienced players that know pretty much all the heroes and how lanes etc should be approached depending on the line-up. A lot of would greatly benefit from them taking charge and giving us some direction before, during and after the game.

Then go captains mode if you want some structured. The hints in the name mate, All Pick, pick what you want.

I'm not going to benefit very much by playing bots when I'm in the very high bracket, I'll benefit from playing people in proper situations and if I want to learn something specific I ain't getting it necessarily in anything but All Pick.

I do CPT Mode. You are missing the point here I think.

I'm not saying that you aren't entitled to play whatever you want in AP, obviously, as you have pointed out it's AP.

What I'm saying is, why would you want to take a random hero that you could be terrible at, or doesn't function well with the team and bring a team down

When you can make an informed and knowledgeable choice of any of the characters anyway. 200g isn't worth the risk imo

1. I will random before all other four heroes are picked, therefore there is no issue with 'it doesn't function with the team'

2. You have to start learning somewhere, playing bots is not that place, I think once you've played enough games you can understand that you know, last hitting is last hitting and placing wards is placing wards.

3. It isn't just about the gold, I might not be able to make my mind up or just fancy playing anything, hitting the random button does that.

4. Good, keep doing captains mode, then you can not complain about people picking heroes in 'All' pick.

And if more people random after you? See where the problem starts?

Whats wrong with jumping to a random hero, rather than having to hit the random button?

I like to play all sorts of modes and I'm voicing an opinion it's not complaining. So sorry you happen to disagree, but at least that's given some sort of insight into other people's perspectives.

Like I said, I have no issue with randoming before you have something like 3 carries or 3 supports picked, after it becomes silly and a burden but to flat out complain about it is dumb, its the purpose of all pick

Playing people is completely different to the bots. I've randomed loads in all pick, I'm crap whomever I play as so it makes no difference.

This is a really weird game. More team centric than other games and yet not. If I'm playing with randoms I'll do my best for the team up to a point, otherwise I couldnt careless about these complete strangers. What with the being swore at and called and killstealer and other stupid stuff.

Wouldn't mind playing a few games with you lot sometime :p

I am still learning and like to random a lot, have watched a ton of games since I often just watch if I'm not sure I'll have a full hour to commit to a game (Don't like to quit on people!)

I'm definitely up for some in-house games!

Also, if anyone has a stack they play with would you be up for scrims sometime?

Name on steam is rjh
