Tried to idle on mumble at the weekend so I would be about if someone wanted to make a 5 but people leaving their mic on voice activation so I can hear their full Saturday morning playlist and random keyboard smashing. Really annoying :x

Thanks for the ward guide, will give that a read over :)

You like my saturday morning playlist really :D keyboard smashing wasn't me :p

Pfft that's probably the biggest benefit :D

Forgot to ask but have you ran through the audio wizard on mumble to try get your mic not to pickup keyboard sounds? Theres a fair few options more in the wizard to try get your mic to only pick up the sound of your voice.

You might need to switch it to raw amplitude from input, if i remember correctly the default is signal to noise ratio and that usually is the one that causes keyboard sounds to be picked up if i remember right.

I'll give it another fiddle but Teamspeak seemed to do it relatively easily, even Raidcall did.

+TS has duke nukem voice pack and looks nicer :p

I think tonight was a bit better for having fun, pretty sure everyone had a good time(except Shami).

Any other suggestions for making it better would be good, so far we have maybe a 5 minute pause for people need it to read some guides if they are playing a new character.

Wouldn't mind getting a team started to enter some online tournies if anyone is interested, Me and Murray down for it so far

Prefer to have more experienced players and a willingness to take some constructive criticism

Would be up for that.

I'm getting sick to death of public games now, and only really enjoy it when I'm 2/3ing with OcUK players.

Only managed to fit one game in last night and got randomised Visage. Really interesting hero, I was a bit lost controlling the familiars and didn't help that I had unbound the first 4 control groups for item binds last week :)

I think us newer players would be more comfortable playing all random heroes if we had that 5 minute to read up on a very basic item/play style to follow. At least learning the mechanics of the spells at our disposal.

You might be interested in the unified units option (think it defaults to off) for heros with multiple units / images. While you're in options you may want to fiddle with the rest of them and consider the "right clink deny" setting (console only, does what it says), auto attack etc...

I've been trying to think how we can make it more fair, the only thing I've come up with is all pick, done in stages.

Pro players like purdy, Murray, gord have to random first, so if they get a stupid character they can swap with someone else. Next noobs who don't mind randoming go next, but can pick if they're swapping with a pro, so they can select the hero for the pro within reason (again, no stupid heroes). Then finally the noobs who aren't comfortable with randoming can pick last according to what the team needs.

The thing about last night was some people were out of their comfort zone and didn't get the chance to play properly, so the teams were massively uneven in some games.

Any better suggestions then let's hear them.

Personal opinion is the swapping of heroes is pointless. I don't see the point of random if you can simply swap with someone.

The best thing that would improve noobs such as myself would be a strong captain that takes charge and gives everyone a role to fill. They should also be taking a strong command to initialise team fights against the opposition and keeping an eye on what items they are carrying, giving them advice on which items they should be aiming for next.

Like wise they should be designating someone the role of warding/upgrading the courier.

This would benefit everyone greatly but not sure if the more experienced players can be bothered with the extra responsibility and having to do a little baby sitting :)

In general I'm happy to take whatever people would prefer I took (excluding Chen/Enc/Meepo :P). Giving advice might be fairly tough midgame (and if you're losing then you probably arn't going to want to hear that your first item choice is fairly questionable). The time at the start and end of the game would probably suffice for most though.

The one thing that has happened a bit is "Battlefury first" syndrome - you need to be both a very good last hitter and know you will have time after acquiring it (because your team is constantly exerting pressure on the map or extending the laning phase) to make it worth it. Realistically if you don't get this by 18-20 mins you passed the window of effectiveness. For those beginning in dota, I highly recommend you don't bother with this. You're crippling yourself when instead you could grab some decent early stats (drums and boots is never wrong) and go for a great midgame into a finish.

If your guide has first item battlefury please ask someone else to confirm that this is a good idea considering your skill. Even if you just got a ring of health on AM you don't need to turn every ring into a BF, if it kept you alive in lane then it's job is done.

What are people's thoughts on the following.

I hate when playing AP and people choose a random.
But 200g you might say! Just no, 200g is a negligible amount.
That 200g isn't worth a team being brought down by someone who has no idea what they are playing.

I would rather have 5 thought out choices that have some sort of synergy rather than idiots picking random because they want to try something new.

It's called random mode, use it.

**** that, random is used for learning, you go to play them at some stage, if you want 'synergy' go play in a 5 stack. Random if you want, its not there to be not used.

Doing it as a last pick when you have 3 carries already is a bit dim though, just do it early
