*** Official Dota 2 Thread ***

I've found that if you are going to play with people that are new to the game don't expect them to ward every 6 minutes, pull and stack, harass properly and so on. These things all take time to learn.

I definitely agree with this.

I'm up to nearly 400 games of dota and getting in a game with a support that even does the basic stuff is still a rarity. I'd say maybe 1 in 10 games.

Random fight from a captains mode game tonight, I spotted we were about to be team engaged so I moved down to try and get there.

I should have moved sooner and my orb in was at the wrong angle, could have avoided being on low HP by the end of it but I'm pretty good at timing my phase shifts.

Fun none the less :)

Nice plays man

Yey I'm getting better!

So I have been playing lots and lots of single draft pub games. It's good for a noob because it forces me to make a choice of only 3 characters, I can have a quick read and then quickly grab a guide thing for it. I think what I didn't really hit me at the start is you NEED to know other characters even if you don't like them to know what abilities they have and their weakness. Like I know some characters have mana drain and some characters need mana of they do nothing. So it's good to know these things.

I also like to watch games so if I see any of the OcUK guild on and they are playing I just have a snoop sometimes and see how they play. It's a bit annoying to be in the mumble/TS server and trying to watch a game though as there's a bout a 3/5 minute delay I think? People need to start Twitch streaming their games :D

I've noticed in a few games recently people getting very agitated during the in-house. So much so it's a bit off putting to a new player like myself.

Think I'll just stick to grouping with the people I know rather than getting shouted at or being witness to someone getting shouted at. Not fun :(

I've got a reasonable amount of free time this weekend, I want to play with a team/4 or 5 stack and get some good games rolling. Playing pubs is making me want to stop play.
I can be pretty frustrating playing support. You scrape by on the bear minimum of items, have to be extra careful mid game when warding so you don't get ganked. Then late game you feel even more useless when the carrys are fully geared up.

It's an art, certainly. I've supported on a few chars and only really done well on Earthshaker and CM (who is awesome btw).

ES is great, can turn fights easily, but one wrong fissure, and you can wipe your team. Scary stuff. I love CM though, she's awesome.

Support is definitely my fave role, but getting used to playing a high level support will take forever.

Yeah it will but you can focus your attention on specific areas:

1) Warding and Dewarding. Look for unusual ward spots that provide good coverage over key areas. The more obvious spots will get dewarded.

2) Harass in lane and focus on denies. Let the carry get the farm. Alternatively, you can roam and set up ganks

3)Make sure there is a courier. Upgrade asap.

4) Learn to use the jungle. Unless you utilise the jungle a defensive trilane will work against you. Practice stacking and pulling the creeps to deny the enemy XP and gold.

5)Focus on good support items. It is easy to see how good a player is by the items they buy. Things like force stick, mek, hex, even a cheeky blink dagger if farm permits.

Obviously this is probably too much for a lone support so the burden will be split. Talk with the other support about who is going to do what and what items you will make (avoid double mek etc).

These are the key things for support. If I missed out anything major point it out I am a bit sleep deprived atm

Massive fan of DOTA2 here. Play on a daily basis, but only manage to get one or two games in due to a nagging gf.

Really impressed with Shadow Shamen and his disabling - especially during late game when you can disable 3 Heros off the bat, and then use shackles to pin one hero down right next to your ulti - so much win.

Yeah he's one of those support that rarely gets picked in pro games. It's a shame but his HoN equivalent - Pollywog Priest - was one of the strongest mid heros at one time but SS just seems a bit weak to me. The disables are sure nice though

Had a bad run and got knocked out of very high bracket :( Oh well
