**Official Duke Nukem Forever Thread**

Fundamentals of a game rarely change, a few missing textures is insignificant compared to changing how cars handle or radically changing the graphics to be more up to date, or improving AI and things. The problem is the demo didn't suck because a small green part of a gun wasn't animated, it sucked because every part of it was epically rubbish ;)

As others have said, its not adult themed, boobs and some funny jokes, good things, throwing crap at a wall is a designer who hasn't grown up and has run out of actually witty/funny things to include and just adds whatever childish things he can think up into the game.

Taking a pee, and turning taps on and off, those things might have been marginally impressive 15 years ago, but ultimately those things were gimmicks and not actual gameplay, they were a cheap way to make the game seem more complete, these days its just time and effort on something thats completely pointless, when time needs to be spent on the rubbish game around the gimmicky parts.

I'll be shocked if the final game is even half decent, certainly not buying it for full price.

^ You're losing your touch, thats not the usual wall of text containing more words than the Bible that we're accustomed to. :)

I don't think you completely understood the first part of the demo. :p

Or the fact that its hard to gauge ai when you're fighting against mindless grunt pig cops. What are they meant to do, offer a truce and talk terms over a "spot of tea"?

Maybe... But it may appear the demo is more an interactive advert (from last year) rather than a true cut from any part of the current game...

This would account for the stadium being so easy, and the weapons everywhere on the second map...

Guess we'll find out in a week...

Exactly.

I wonder why people say "it's not duke" when he's in a monster truck, it clearly is.

Only reason you didn't get that kind of gameplay was because of the limitations of the software/hardware back when.

Yup, i fear any advancement that wasn't in the original game will be a point of whining for some people. I really can't see it getting fair reviews either as reviewers will want to put the boot in and nitpick every single thing possible, while giving crap like call of duty a bye ball no matter how on rails it is.

I think most engines today can't handle the amount of stuff that went on in 90s shooters.

Just thinking about it, imagine having Doom on nightmare difficulty using the cryengine, you would get 1fps at best.

The developers are trying their best to stay true to older games but the engines today still have quite big limitations. There is a fine balance to be had now using fully 3D models with life like lighting.

i doubt they'd release a year old demo, i expect that's what the game is like now, they're releasing a re- mastered older game on the cheap, knowing that the fans will still buy it at an inflated 30 quid.

reviews? it'll get hammered because it'll be seen accurately for what it is.

i heard they kept this game like the original one? and most people are moaning about that .tbh im glad they have kept this game like the original one. if they changed it people would still moan saying why didn't they keep it has the original ones.

it'll be like the Carmageddon: Reincarnation it'll be kept like the original one but i'm sure some people will still moan about that..

ye its june 9th for me to, on thinking about it i wont buy on launch, ill wait awhile for reviews and player comments cant really judge all the game on the demo :)

Well, this is from a year ago... Same level(s)/map? Same demo?

Serious Sam 3 appears to have it nailed:

I fear this game is going to be a massive 'hype crash and burn'. I dont think any games developer could make a game that would live up to the hype and suspense that DNF has. Its not really the developers fault. It will be the game remembered purely for its development history.

"Do you remember the sequel to that old Duke Nukem 3D?"
"Yeah, it was crap but I remember the history it had with 3D Realms canning it, but it still came out years later"
