**Official Duke Nukem Forever Thread**

Spoilers ahead.

There are quite a few references to other games and movies in DNF, here's the ones I can remember.

Half Life: Duke says "A crowbar would come in handy right about now." when faced with a boarded up mine entrance in The Mighty Foot level.

Portal: During the Forkstop level, you can gain access to a room filled with weapons and explosives by putting the "Companion Barrel" on a heart on the floor. A message comes up on the screen saying "Have some cake." and you also get an achievement.

Gears of War (Possible): During the Shrunk Machine level, just after you've gotten through all those cogs in the machine when you're shrunk, when you blow the fuse and the machine stops working, Duke says "Duke 1, Gears 0".

Total Recall: When you use the Holoduke, Duke says "You think this is the real Duke? It is." Also the Alien Queen boss at the end of The Hive level has three breasts.

Robocop: When smashing open an ammo box, Duke will sometimes say "I'd buy that for a dollar."

Team America: World Police: At the beginning of the Generator Room level, the General says to Duke "America is counting on you." and Duke replies "America, **** yeah!"

I'm sure there are loads more references like this, please post any you find. :)

Gearbox have stated numerous times they were finishing 3d realms vision for the game. Most of the gearbox work from what ive read has been updating some assets, bug fixes, performance and optomisation, polishing the game, and replacing some assests ingame and of course getting the ports to consoles under way, far as im aware they handled 1 port while another company done the 360 port.

George Broussard was asked about the weapons limit around the time it was first shown at pax and he said something along the lines of "its not 1996 anymore". The regen health though im suspicious of, it was clearly shown in the Jace Hall footage from 2007 that killing enemies added to ego, and back then it supposodly worked the way it does in that manhattan project game. That footage also had the multiple weapons selection but as it was unfinished theres no real way to tell if that was enabled just for testing purposes or not.

I guess we'll never know. It's such a shame it was ruined though, it could have potentially been great, but it's seriously lacking in some parts.

The things which annoys me the most was the whole "This game is 16-18 hours, it's like 3-4 Call of Duty's!", which was a load of bull****. 10 hours less than what they claimed isn't a small amount by any recognition, people think they cut all that content for future DLC's, and that amount is over HALF of the single player campaign. That is a HUGE cut. If it turns out to be true a LOT of respect will have been lost by me, but I feel that it may be true by the fact we First access members get "The first multiplayer DLC, completely free!".

After you defeat the alien queen Duke says "Not bad, for a human" (as Bishop says to Ripley in Aliens, after she defeats the queen). I think that was the quote, but it was definitely from Aliens.

In Titty City did anyone else notice the spinning top from Inception just sat there spinning :)

In one of the levels at the beginning, some guy asks you if you want a power suit and Duke says "Those are for ****ies" and then gets given a gun instead. When you look in the van, the power suit is the suit from Halo.

The Alien Queen boss' Total Recall quote is "Baby, you make me wish I had THREE guns!"

Also, very early in the game you meet a marine who whines about just getting back after "having to help his friend find his wiiiiife, goddamn pussy." Obvious Gears 2 reference.

Just finished it Man I dont think I have been hand held in a game like this ever!! Is this what FPSers are like these days?

I thought it was from Doom, which they have mocked before in Duke3D.

Completed this yesterday. 13hrs played total including wandering around looking/playing with stuff. Enjoyed it very much. Some nice set pieces, good veriety of levels and some fun guns (freeze ray, shrink ray etc). Found it funny, didnt get old. Played it for a couple of hour bursts at a time. Glad I bought it.

And if they were to do another one, with a proper modern engine, with even more interactive environments etc etc... Would you buy it?

I know I would!

Heh - pretty much sums up my feelings (finished it yesterday as well).

I thought the graphics were fairly good - better than I was expecting anyway. They used post-process effects very heavily, but they worked well enough I think.

It wasn't a masterpiece by any means, but it was enjoyable enough. It was only really spoiled by the two-gun limit... I can understand wanting to make weapon selection easier for console users, but two guns in a game like this is criminal! Three weapons and a sidearm should have been an absolute minimum... Also more variety in enemies would have been nice.

I did enjoy the purile adolescent Dukeness of it though - took me back to Duke 3D. And fighting ridiculously oversized bosses is always fun.

I've been splitting my time between Duke, Dead Rising 2 and Resident Evil 5. Not that far through Duke yet. Just got past the part in the Hive level where you meet up with the twins again. Liking the game so far. Dunno what all the hate is about really.

Not sure I understand the hate for this game, i'm about half way through and I'm really enjoying it.

Gameplay is fine and I don't understand the issue with the graphics, they are really not bad at all, I would say 7/10 would be fair.
