*** Official Elder Scrolls MMO Thread ***

Who said anything about getting the game for free? All people want is a one off payment, sub based games are horrible, it creates this must play as much as possible scene and anyone who can't hammer it for hours falls behind. That's what I and many others like about one off payments, you don't feel like you have to play it all the time to get your monies worth.

What planet do you live on?

No MMO to date forces you to play 8 hours a day and is subscription based.

ALL MMO's with a sub i know of, have means to get to the same level as other players by doing less hours a day.

I didn't say it forces you, but you do fall behind unless you sink hours of your time into it. Unless you don't mind being owned by people with the best gear.

But isnt that exactly the same for like BF3 where someone who spends more time then you playing the game is better then you? And thats free?

Not really, FPS is a lot more down to pure skill, the starter weapons are enough to do well with, it doesn't take months to get better ones either. Also with no sub you don't feel the need to play it all the time to get your monies worth.

With some gear on MMO's you literally have to grind for months to get a full set. Gear stats on MMO's make a big difference as well. Then there's the fact that when they release better gear like most MMO's do you've basically wasted months getting gear that is now obsolete, a vicious circle which is why people become addicted.

I don't understand the paying a sub forces you to play all the time thing, and if you don't you fall behind? When i played WoW, i paid the sub because i enjoyed the game, and i never felt the need to play more to get my monies worth, because i was playing it like normal anyway.

Also isn't it the same for any other game with progression? If you don't play, you fall behind?

No as I explained above. Single player games progression doesn't matter, most other online games you don't need top end gear to perform to the best of your ability, shooters are skill based.

It was discussed previously on here about subs making you play more and most people agreed. I'll try and dig the thread up.

Everyone complaining about the $15 per month subscription fee needs to look at the cost per hour(CPH) of entertainment, and realize that, based on average consumption, Netflix viewing has a CPH of $0.25. In order to achieve the same CPH with this subscription, you would only need to play 60 hours per month, or 2 hours per day, on average.

Even if you kept your playing time to 30 hours per month, your CPH would be only $0.50, which is less than just about every form of entertainment out there.

I rest my case.

You can rest your case all you want but having low cost PH doesn't make it a good game or a good model, lets check out the CPH of a one off payment title shall we?

Wait, you're comparing a MMORPG to a online FPS shooter?

I wish planetside 2 was sub based.

Why? It wouldn't have anywhere near the players it has now, and some servers population has already dropped rapidly.

Just worked out BF3 CPH:

1000 hours into battlefield 3 over the course of its lifetime at £60 for game and premium = £0.06p an hour.

Lets say once a week on a Friday you go down the pub and buy 3 pints.

3 x £2.50 = £7.50

So in 1 night you spend the same as monthly subscription.

You do this every Friday for a year.

That means you'd spend £360 a year on beer every Friday, once a week.

I'm sorry but for what you get from a MMO subscription, its well worth the money.

How is this relevant?

You spent £xxxx on your car, so you should always be eating at restaurants that cost £xxx.

For all you know, I don't drink, and see the subscription cost as a huge investment of my spare money.

We haven't seen the game yet; it may very well be worth the subscription. But there's plenty of other games I could go to right now and get a LOT more value out of.

Well this is disappointing, but not entirely unexpected truth-be-told. I mostly did expect ESO to be a sub game - showing that sadly Bethseda is pulling a BioWare/Star Wars thing. Basically hoping that the company brand and fanbase of TES IP will hold enough sway to warrant a sub fee.

I also get a big feeling, same as I am regarding Wildstar, that this is not going to last and they will switch to B2P/F2P after 6-18 months in an attempt to rake more money in. From what I have seen of the game so far I have not seen anything at all that is innovative, inspiring or has any "WOW" factor to it (not WoW as in the game) - and as SW:TOR showed, it doesn't matter how well known, respected, followed, etc your company, brand and the branding & following of your IP... if your game is terrible, it will not last as a sub game.

So I'll be skipping this, at least till it goes B2P or F2P down the track.

It'd have to be the next best thing since sliced bread to make a subscription fee tolerable. But judging from the few videos I've seen so far - that seems rather unlikely. I will hold judgement until I get to play in a Beta version of the game, but it's safe to say that there is little innovation. It basically looks like it's gonna be the ancient old EQ Formula with a Skyrim paint-job slapped onto it.
