*** Official Elder Scrolls MMO Thread ***

To be honest, after seeing character customisation, I expected more.
After spending few hours in beta - of which around 30 minutes on loading screens - I habe to say that I am dissapointed and won't even sub at all, maybe won't even play it if it goes f2p.

Eq was based upon MUD games and really hard.
I reached lev 28 after 3 months of gaming which was impressive then.
Level 50 was revered as Gods as it took such a time to play it due to it was hardcore.
The fun came with the hardcore as I had people texting me a year after giving them some stuff at level 1 as the hardness did breed community and none MMO have come close to EQ since 1999.
You cant do EQ the same way today but the gameplay and leveling needs to be hardcore and suited for today which would work just fine.
if its to easy people play it as a single player game and in EQ that was only for those playing Necro and even those players did group up fast and if you was an ass you didnt get a group due to everyone knew it within days.

I was level 10 in a day with eso, and felt like a single player game, dont need more of those I want an MMO that gives me a reason to stay and get that BP at level 50 that you die a million times and if lucky have a drop of it.
these easy reward MMO game stuff the kids asks for just sucks.
Totally agree flopper

EQ really did mean mmo, sure it was hardcore but with it came a great sense of achievement when you finally hit max level or looted that epic item you had worked so hard for.

You had to group up to get things done which was what an mmo should be all about imo.It has been said a million times before, but people want instant levels and loot these days.....now wheres the fun in that ^^

I dont think i managed more than 30 mins in eso before it got uninstalled.

Now off to nek forest to find my corpse ;p

Initially, I wasn't too impressed.

But as I got past the starting zones, and started getting some skills, it opened out a lot and I was actually really starting to enjoy it! And only managed to get to level 9!

I have to admit, I was disappointed with the first half hour (although I did like the visuals), but it improved markedly after an hour's play. There are some mechanics I'm not won over by - it remains to be seen whether I will purchase this on release.

Didn't play EQ but DAoC was very much the same in the early days. Took months and months to get to level 50 but once you were there the whole guild came together to celebrate and get the member that final Epic armour piece.

In a world of instant respecs and pay-as-you go boosts, I can't see a return to the golden age.

After playing the weekend, I enjoyed it but.

I feel that this shouldn't have been an MMO, I feel it should have been 4-6 player max.

The quest lines were fairly uninspired & I got bored of the story pretty quickly. Especially Aldmeri Dominion that was so boring it sent me to sleep! Ebonheart Pact was a little better though, But on the whole the same tried & tested formula of all MMO's lately. Too much on rails. I want an MMO like SWG where it just chucks you in the world & you go off & do what you want to do.

Animations need some work, I thought the graphics were fine for an MMO, Never got the chance to try any PvP.

Would I pay a monthly sub for it? Most probably not. I can see it F2P within a year most definitely as there isn't anything unique about the game to command a monthly fee.

Overall I enjoyed it, But they need to do a lot of work.

If someone did it right, it could happen. I think EQ had enough of a loyal playerbase that it could be financially viable.

I'd go as far as to say I think it will happen, not soon but I think the trend will swing back somewhat.

For me, EQ was successful because it was very difficult to play solo. It forced community. It was a MASSIVE grind but the grind was worth it because the social side of the game was so strong. I can remember just grinding for days and days in places like SolB, Karnors Castle (Only ever saw one tranquil staff drop :() and having a good time just chatting to the guys I was grouping with. Throw in the occasional wipe, named mobs, healer leaving and waiting 45 mins for another to show up. Recipe for success. :D

Even though there was thousands on servers, everyone knew (at least OF) everyone else pretty much. That speaks volumes.

Tera yes, rest? No.

personal opinion really, my personal opinion is that Rift, Tera and GW2 are all precisely what I said, ie, better or at least as good as this. Which as they are all free to play rather than subscription based , is a problem for ESO. Your opinion is that ESO is better than Rift and GW2 , which is fair enough, everyone is entitled to their own thoughts. Let's hope for ESOs sake that there are more people who agree with you, than with me :-)

From what I have read, I see no reason why I would dump F2P Tera, to pay for this. Tera was only my 2nd pop at a MMORPG after Eve, which I so wanted to like but found was no fun at all. More of a chore and a head scratcher than anything else.

I think you have to be exceptional to warrant a paid sub these days or be market dominant, like WOW. Eve has carved out a non standard niche in the market so it can get away with a paid sub.

I'm gunna leave my 2 pence here:

I found it highly enjoyable, but I am bias, mainly because I adore the Elder Scrolls, from book to games I have enjoyed it immensely and having a MMO which I can continue this within, I am all for it.

The general consensus with all new MMO's is the 'Well I don't see why I would switch from X to play Y', and it completely make's sense, I don't see a reason why you should switch from a MMO you highly enjoy to another one that's going to be similar in gameplay with a different scene/storyline, that wouldn't make sense. Again this is my way of thinking, if I was hooked on Neverwinter, which I did try playing, and this was released, I probably wouldn't switch as I knew what I would enjoy more.

Back to the game, the graphics were fantastic, they kept to the Elder Scrolls style, the same with the landscapes, Morrowind reminded me of Morrowind & looked how it should when it was destroyed by the Oblivion Crisis. It was nice to see the full range of Enemies and creatures from Kwaurm warriors and Bell Netch's, I guess nostalgia played it's part.

I never got chance to get anywhere but Morrowind, were we able to? I don't know. I will reflect on the beginning not being so great, Molag Bal was eventually going to attack, however we were never told why, no background was given and again we started in a prison cell, Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim all the same! - I hope they make the beginning better.

Attack styles/fighting - I don't understand peoples arguement here, everyone so far I've seen has moaned that there is no 'Lock on' or 'Auto attack'. Well there never has been? Elder Scrolls have never had this ability and I find it quite boring to just click a enemy and watch, I'd rather have to actually move, dodge and attack myself then spam click on the same spot. Auto attack again, if you're in a dangerous area looking through your journal and you're attacked, well again make sure you're safe!

Animation, short and sweet, these need work along with quite a few of the sound. Traps not having clunky sounds of metal hitting stone was odd.

Voice overs, this is fantastic! I hate having to just read, and read through text, instead I can listen to well scripted & good sounding voice overs like I have come to expect from ES games.

Combat feel I hope will be amended as other have said it feels light, it doesn't feel powerful when you attack (besides the lightning strike destroying an enemy, that feels good!), but swords, axes don't seem strong.

- The game isn't completely different from all the other MMO's, and I never expected it to be. However I do enjoy the ES theme and will probably end up buying it as I know I'll enjoy playing it more than other MMO's out there, I don't enjoy the similar cartoony style all of them seem to have, along with the third person turn based attacks almost.

- Personally, if you enjoy other MMO's over this, then stay there, it's what I would have done, but this is a game I know I will fully enjoy as I'm not just after playing an MMO, I want to enjoy the story and feel of the game.

I retract my statement. GW2 and TERA are as good if not better, playing GW2 again and it's flawless :D. Still can't agree on RIFT though, it's awful. I'm genuinely surprised that Blizzard haven't sued them for copyright when you consider how copy and paste it is, it's a clone down to the very word. It might as well be called World of Warcraft: Rifts of Azeroth, the only wow thing about it is it's resemblance to WoW... It's Modern Warfare in comparison to Black Ops... and, well you get my point. :p

Plus it's bloody crowded and quests take an age to get through thanks to all the other players competing for kills or to click objects that take ages to respawn.
