*** Official Elder Scrolls MMO Thread ***

Dodgy combat in MMOs is almost always a flaw in the core basic design of the game. A game needs responsive actions and weighty character animations in its alpha stages if you want a guarantee of something similar at launch to what WoW has. When you are experiencing it in the beta you can be sure that the floaty movement and clunky actions are going to be here to stay, and probably are the main reason this game (and the majority of MMOs that end up f2p) will never hook people in the way WoW did. It's such an important thing to get right and I'm just baffled that so many developers allow their games to get so far in production while skimping on this key feature. I'm not claiming to be an expert myself, but surely it can't be that difficult to get right, can it?

There's a very good reason why combat is off in this game - it uses the same base engine as SWTOR, the Hero Engine. It's a well known fact that this engine has real timing issues with GCD's and combat animations.

If anyone is hoping for a patch to this, they will be waiting a long time.

Well, I am just after playing this for an hour or so. It has improved a lot since the last beta. So maybe they are moving in the right direction. Combat wasn't as floaty as I remember from last time. I didn't bother starting a new character, although my redguard warrior seems to have turned into a redguard sorcerer :-) Not sure how that's going to work out!!

I agree with some of the other posters, it seems exactly like Skyrim with an MMO bolted on afterwards. For people who like to explore and open every crate and box they find, that this game is going to be a nightmare!! I don't know about anybody else, but, there is something wrong me, because I can't pass a crate, box, sack anything without searching it. And in this game there is so many crates!! OVERLOAD!!!! I probably spent 10 minutes playing, 50 minutes opening things. It's too much. I have picked up so much water now that I could start my own lake :-)

It still hasn't grabbed me though. I stopped for the evening because I was bored of it to be honest.

Pretty sure it doesn't use the Hero engine, they only used it a couple of years ago apparently.

But if I'm wrong, please show me!
