*** Official Elder Scrolls MMO Thread ***

A mate at work asked me why I disliked it and he ended up just dismissing every genuine problem/fault I had with the game... "Oh, I never saw that..no".

So many little things, some of the writing is god awful too, I went up to a chest at some point and interacted with it and it just displayed a description of the chest, without the ability to open it...and it just gave me a dialogue choice to say "Goodbye" to it.

Saying goodbye...to a chest...

It's grown on me, combat is still floaty but I suppose that's hard to change with it using MMO hit detection. I really started getting into the quest lines once level 10 or so. They got an imperial edition sale from me :p

LoL is F2P and it's great. World of Tanks isn't bad either. Planetside? Team Fortress? Plenty of other smaller titles are decent; the industry is growing nicely, in fact.

LoL which isn't a MMO has the single worst gaming community thats ever existed, Its just horrific. You could quite easily attest that to the free to play aspect of the game since its pick up and play when you feel like it and troll with throwaway accounts.

Never played world of tanks.

Planetside, while free to play, most people i speak to about it wish it was sub based. Considering all the 'cool' things are on the cash shop. Again, give the community the bare boring basics and put the awesome stuff on the shop, almost forcing you to buy from it.

Team Fortress, I've never played. If you want to buy hats, well its your money to waste :D

F2P has its place, but its generally regarded as short term cash grabs and extremely detrimental to the community of the games.

Nothing in the gameplay up until level 8 made me want to keep playing. It just felt like an unpolished version of Morrowind or Oblivion, but with an awkward UI and a bunch of idiots running around to detract from immersion.

That said, a group of my friends played quite a lot of pvp, and that sounded like excellent fun based on TS. So maybe that's where the real game lies.

I wanted to like it so much but I'm just not convinced. I had what has now become a rare 'free weekend' and was planning on sitting on it for most of the weekend but for all the game was fun, it didn't captivate me as much as an MMO should. I didn't feel like I was being rewarded and found the quest structure a bit 'blink and you'll miss it' with a lot of running from point to point to do, well...nothing.
All in all a disappointing result for me and I have now cancelled my Imperial edition preorder.

OK 4 days booked of work game ordered will have first gaming holiday since cata wow expansion :) And First holidays in 2 years to since 2 weeks off sick i had last year does not count :P

I have to take issue with all the people claiming doom and gloom for this game (strangely, this fora is one of the worst places on the net for naysaying!). I think the biggest problem is that although it's an MMO, it's a completely different beast to the WoW's and Wildstar's of the world. I'd liken it more to TSW than anything else (a very good thing IMO).

I prefer the slower, more exploration based pace of this game to the fast, hub to hub to hub, linear path of Wildstar. I also appreciate the muted colour palette compared to the 'ADHD child with a box of day-glo pens' colouring of Wildstar.

There is no reason that both can't be successful and it's been said on more than one occasion that if you yearn for vanilla WoW, then Wildstar is your game but for those of us that don't, it's good to have something that isn't trying to ape WoW in everything it does.
Choice is good and I'm very much looking forward to TESO :)

I dunno.

I dislike the childlike style of WoW & love a good mature game.

The problem with TESO isn't that it's not like WoW, it's that the game is bland - uninspired & the actual game-play isn't fun.

tempted by this but what worries me is everybody bashing the combat... what is it actually like? is it just like playing Skyrim?

The problem I found was when you attacking someone in melee you never feel like your connecting with anything, like punching air ! it really really felt bad.

STOP making MMo's with consoles in mind as it ruins the depth and complexity !!

For a game with a rich and detailed history to drawn upon, the lore in ESO is pretty terrible.

Um, have you even played this game?

I rarely play melee styles in MMO's (probs should have mentioned that to start with!). tend to always be more of a Bow guy!.

Hows the combat for ranged and magic styles?

magic styles?
This was what i was wondering too, from what ive seen of the skill set for mages, its kind of lacking some of the schools you see in ES games,

destruction appears limited to electricity, as a mage you expect more variety in a skill set.

Yes, both of them. There are a couple of hubs in the same vein as the hubs in TSW, but neither of them is chock full of quest givers that are standing around, scratching their arse with an icon over their head. Sure, you get a few more in the big areas (Daggerfall had quite a few) but most of the quests are found scattered off the beaten path, rather than being breadcrumbed.

I like the hub based game as much as anyone (played EQ2 for 7 years and raided for 3 of those) and sandboxes too (SWG is my favourite MMO) but something about TESO has really resonated with me.

Seems like it has good dungeons, an atmospheric world, plenty to do, meaningful crafting and hopefully plenty of end game content (haven't tried out the PvP but the general consensus is it is top notch). Mind you, I am a terrible MMO tourist though :o
