Heh, if you've managed to formulate an opinion of me after 300-odd posts spread over a few years, then I'd be impressed, so no offence taken! :D

I wasn't being pithy either. The best way to decide is to give the game a go. I can wax lyrical about the exploration aspects, the stunning scenery, the wealth of character customisation you can achieve and the way they've implemented the questing and the great crafting but there are very real issues that some can't get over or forgive.
It would be disingenuous to comment on the combat and its lack of weight until the next beta when the changes should be in; a fairer comment can be made then. It is slower to start and the whole experience is slower than most of the other MMOs on the market and that puts some off (it's actually a pro for me, not a con but I'm trying to be impartial). Some of the animation is incredibly stilted and it can really take you out of the game and the whole experience is quite solo-centric until you get to level 10 and PvP opens, or 12ish for the first instanced dungeon to open if you're not a PvP minded person.
The limited starter isles, again, will be sorted in the next beta with the ability to skip them.

It is different to other MMOs on the market. It's not the saviour of gaming, nor is it a WoW challenger. If you like WoW, chances are you'll probably dislike this as it doesn't have the frenetic pace of WoW, nor the almost Motherly hand holding that it gives you. Of the MMOs I've played it has more of an EQ2/Vanguard/TSW feel to it where the onus is more on the player to go out and explore, discover quests, craft ect. than the game railroading you toward a particular objective.

Just my tuppence.

This man talks a lot of sense.

I haven't kept up at all with any news relating to the game, so in a nutshell what's the verdict?

scritchyrat summed it up perfectly i feel.

Well i played this for the 2nd time last night with my brother, and i have to say my opinion has changed some what. The 1st time i played it i had to side with all the nay sayers on this forum, but after last night I'm starting to enjoy the game more.

There are some things i don't like about it still, like the UI, and the movement still feels a little "floaty" but the movement has improved from my 1st experience!

The combat is much improved, coming from GW2 its much on a par with that although I missed being able to change weapons at a push of a button!

Whether it's worth a £40 punt and £9 a month sub? I'm not sure on that yet.....but the decision is becoming harder!!

You'll be able to do that at 15

The link a few pages ago that Latex did to the Brazillian site works a treat. 100% legit and I paid £38 (£40 after paypal conversion rates) for the Imperial digital and the normal version is £28.

Doo eeeeet ;)

Having put a good few hours into the beta, I'm still enjoying this game tremendously. I see it more as a casual mmo; I don't feel like there will be a huge grind to feel like you've achieved something, nor do I feel that it requires months of dedication to have fun.

My only gripe is the monthly cost; I can't justify paying £8 per month for a more casual oriented mmo.

I personally wouldn't say its casual at all. Hardly any hand holding, huge amounts of depth in the game.

But casual is a personal preference, if you play something casually does that make the game casual?

I have to say the more I play the more I am coming around to liking this game. It deffo gets about 1000 times better once you leave the stupid starter islands.

Where's the cheapest place to get an imperial edition at the moment ?

Anybody else getting constant CPU spikes and freezing? I know its a known bug that they are working on but the game is becoming unplayable for me.

Even so, what I am playing is getting better and better.

As to me calling it casual; I mean purely in the sense that I don't feel the need to plough in the hours to catch up. It seems casual in all the right ways.

Ahh i understand.

I'm also getting CPU spikes where the game freezes.

Only played a couple of hours but I think its fairly alright.
After playing skyrim I felt utterly at home instantly with the UI and style of play . It almost feels too basic to be an mmo tbh.Im not sure how it will pan out for grouping and raid type scenarios but I'm looking forward to hectic pvp at lvl ten if I get there in time :-)
Wish I was on my main rig and not a three year old gaming laptop medium settings ahoy
No idea why everyone is hating it so much. It will go f2p in a year but who cares.
ts the best model for companies to follow IMHO.

Its been a while since I played an memo and just wandered off off piste exploring.. I likethat feeling I got in this

There are add ons for the UI to give it more functionality (and lots of floaty numbers! :D) but yeah, I think you can survive without it if you're not doing end game or HC PvP stuff.

I get the freezes too. About 3-4 seconds of the game locking up. They have said they know about it but it is imperative that they get it fixed ASAP. I'm hoping as this build is so old (3 months) that the new one has already remedied it.

And Dan, that link that Latex posted is legit. I used Paypal and bought from there and the code activated perfectly. Just have wait until closer to launch for them to email (or add onto you account with the website, but I'm pretty sure it's email) you the codes for the Imperial extras (this is the same for every digital retailer bar Zenimax themselves).
