*** Official Elder Scrolls MMO Thread ***

Is it me or does the combat feel like it has a little more weight behind it now? Granted it's still not perfect, but isn't there a new build that revamps combat completely? Think somebody said there was earlier in the thread.

Yeah, patch 0.18 adds NPC collision and more animation tweaks.

Current build as of this weekend for the weekend testers in 0.17.

Closed beta players have access to 0.18

Played 4 hours of the beta, I know thats not much for an MMO, but I just had to stop. The game feels like it's 10 years old already. Clunky interface and combat, terrible animations, voice acting that sounds robotic, awkward map and inventory system and the quests and mobs just feel like a poor version of every other western MMO. It felt cold and soulless, as if it was constructed by a computer which looked at the algorithms of other MMO's and robotically constructed the world and its quests via that. It just feels so uninspired and artless... and they want a subscription system for this? :/

I'm a closed beta player but the only difference I can feel is there is more of a thud behind each hit, animations seem the same but no idea about collisions.

I tried the beta again this weekend and went with a ranged playstyle. In terms of combat it felt very unsatisfying. And not just laggy as im aware theres a considerable distance for EU players to the server.

I havent grouped in a dungeon yet and im really hoping the game will redeem itself with that because I feel it isn't worth the asking price as of yet.

This game is out in a months time for a fair chunk of money. Don't you think its wiser for people to read both the positive and negative opinions of this game rather than a single sided bias?

Yeah i do, just heh, i give up.

All you naysayers and wildstar fanboys have won, i can't be arsed trying to make you see logic.

So I gave this another go and I am actually enjoying leveling much more than wildstar, perhaps because of the voice over and because I am interested in the world from previous games, whereas I don't know nor care about wildstar lore.

In terms of low level experience of the games ESO is actually better in my view thus far. Although combat does feel a bit sluggish for melee and range (magic combat is more or less okay), very odd choice of combat mechanics from whoever was in charge.

Edit Not being able to dive is a travesty though.

LateX'Dog you must de a dev or soemthing, you are fighting way too hard for this game. I've been playing since beta came up and the only redeeming quality is the environments. Combat feels so sluggish and somewhat boring.

You may enjoy the game, probably to justify your purchase, but you shouldn't go preaching to others who don't. Makes you seem a little desperate. And before you accuse me - I am no Wildstar 'fanboy'. Neither are the saving grace of mmo's but Wildstar does have the edge. A really ****ing big edge.

I wish i was.

I just can not understand the retarded attitude that only 1 mmo can rein supreme over the genre.

So pages and pages ago people cried it was too much like Skyrim, then people cried it was enough like Skyrim. Not once realising it was a COMPLETELY different game. Different genre, different developers etc.

Then people cried it was too much like WoW and not enough like WoW. I mean WTF there.

Then they cried combat felt floaty, unresponsive and dull. So they changed that as evidenced above from peoples first hand testimonies, from patches notes, from game reviewers and review websites.

People are saying the quests are dull, I've just completed a multi chain quest about releasing some spirits or i could have enslaved them into an undead army.
Someone in chat mentioned a quest line involving finding a lesbian Dunmers wife.
I just did a small quest to fetch an argonians lost pets, upon return, the pets where there. A nice little touch to see impact.

So the quests have depth, they have impact and they have a lot of lore behind them. They are not hand holding, they are not fed ex style, you actually have to find them your self.

People are claiming the graphics are bad, i'm sorry either your blind or your inaccurately comparing a MMO to a single player game, which you can't do. These graphics are probably one of the best in a MMO at the moment. Merits given to TSW, GW2 and TERA as they have great graphics too.

The interface is minimalistic for a reason, its to help immerse you into the game and it works fantastically. If you want more bars and buttons, download mods from esoui.com as there are some popping up there.

I do admit the animations are poor in some places, but its not like its the end of the world that a Nord when running points his toes slightly, i mean seriously.

Every single complaint they have tried to address and fix, just nothing seems to be good enough. What ever they try, the minority of vocal haters just find something else to whine about.

Its mainly this forum as well, the reception for this game is huge in other places. People who hated now like it, people who liked it now love it.

If you go into this game expecting Skyrim, WoW or GW2 clones, then you'll leave extremely unhappy. If you expect a Elder Scrolls themed MMO, then you might enjoy it more.

Stop coming in here after hitting level 6 and spending 2 hours, claiming your an expert in the game, you've hardly even scratched the surface and you judging it unfairly.

This is my last rant on the issues, i can not be arsed arguing with people who are completely ridiculous. I want apples, you get apples, you then want oranges, you get oranges, you then want pears.........

I'm going to be streaming at the below twich details for the next hour roughly. You can watch me play my blood mage and see what i see. Stream isn't great quality for that i apologise.

People are being over critical but you aren't going to change their minds bro, it's obviously bothering you and all I can say is don't let it, it isn't worth getting annoyed/upset over a forum. Plenty of keys going around so people who are wondering what it's like, get one from somebody and see for yourselves, who will buy will buy, who won't, won't. Nothing can change that.

think you are way over the top there to be honest.

Now let me admit that on the second Beta I'm a convert. I installed at the previous beta and on that weekend I didn't rate it, however on looking back I was probably guilty of having a preconception before even logging in.

Anyway back to this weekends beta play and I have to say I find the experience much better. If you take a few hours to spend a little time you will come to realise that TESO has the potential to be a great game. If you do what I did on the first beta and play for a couple of hours, you will probably feel pretty negative about it as I did.

But if you set aside all preconception you think you want to have, even try and forget its the next big MMO and you may find as I have that this is looking to be a very good game.

So for on this weekend I have come to love...

Character Creation
You could spend hours in there and the level of detail on clothing jewelry etc is excellent

UI
I love it, the minimalist style is refreshing and the auto hide is a nice idea and the styling of the inventory is a nice nod to Skyrim and just feels right.

Environment
Get about 30 mins into the game and you will appreciate what's ahead. In some places the level of detail is remarkable and the art style is great.

Questing and Pace
The starter areas could be a little quicker but on the other hand everyone is used to MMOs throwing levels at you, I have actually come to like the pace as it is.

Story Telling and Immersion
Is immense and again the detail of the scripting is a credit to them, as is the fact that all of it, as I have seen so far is voiced. No bland boxes of text. Already and on more than on occasion so far I have had a few quest choices to make. Other MMOs have quest choices that shape future events but for the first time i have experienced a real conundrum in thinking what to pick - that oh **** moment - as the way its scripted and staged draws u right in, not as in other MMOs where its a "I dont give a ****, i'll click anything" approach.

He does this with every game then is the first to hammer it when it fails.

I saw this early stages and haven't had the remotest interest since, my only comment though is a positive and that is that the devs seem to be trying hard to improve it at least.

edit rant

Oh wow lol. I seem to have stumbled upon an exposed nerve...

Let me put it this way. I've not followed ESO, this is the first time I've even clicked into this thread so I didn't know about your marriage proposal toward this game... and well, quite frankly, I don't care because you're embarrassing yourself. I would have done it regardless.

I was offered a beta invite from Bethesda for testing their game, a game which is out very soon and more importantly, a game they want my MONEY for. Not only an initial payment, but continuous payments for the pleasure of playing. I, just like you and everyone else, have no allegiance to this company.

I enjoy MMO's, some of the best gaming I've had is from this genre, mostly none standard MMO's too (SWG, FFXI etc) and I approached ESO the way I do every other one on the market. Normally the starter area (which is quite often one of the better, more polished aspects of MMO's) I found it really lacking and unenjoyable. As I said when I gave my opinion in this thread, which I am full well entitled too regardless of what you cry about, is that I understand this is not a full representation of the game, and not the correct way to review it. But I wasn't reviewing, I was making an observation of whether or not its worthy of my money, which I don't think it is one bit.

If my opinion on this game, or anyone else's, is too much for you to take then what does that tell you? Seriously, if you can't take someone's genuine opinion of a videogame written up on an internet forum, then you need to start looking at yourself because you've got some serious loose screws
