**** Official Fallout 4 MODS Thread ****

All I want from a mod now is a clean bath (or a container that could be used as a bath).

Well, actually I want the ability to dig trenches, make plumbing, etc. I want to make functioning flushing toilets. It can be done with stone age technology and it can be done even more easily with lead to easily make pipes. But I'd settle for a clean bath. Clean chairs would be nice too. If I'm making the chairs, why would I be making them from dirty cloth?

So I'm playing Fallout 4 with several mods (probably 30+ now) and have spotted that Steam has automatically pushed me on to 1.3. So far I've spotted no issues - even the simple intersection mod hasn't had any visual issues with the better snapping of 1.3. I find this very hard to believe given how easy skyrim was to break with many mods and updates etc. Should I look to replace all of my esp based mods with latest versions to try and ensure compatibility? I'd really hate for my 220+ hour save to break before I've even completed half of the main quests...

I've updated all my mods (18 now) whenever new versions have been released. No problems so far. The only issues I've had are:

Many settlement building items not being available before I installed Settlement Keywords because my combined extra settlement items mods were exceeding the (remarkably low) limit.

JC's shirts and jeans doesn't work properly. I can have white shirt and light tan jeans, white shirt and blue jeans or black and white check shirt with blue jeans and that's it. The others either give white+tan or make the NPC invisible apart from their head, hands and feet (which looks really strange when they're wearing combat armour). I have a seamstress working in one of my settlements, so it seemed even more appropriate to be able to craft clothing and that was the only mod I could find which did just that. Endless mods to change clothing (most for half-naked women, which is a bit sad) but only that one for crafting basic clothing for settlers.

I also seem to have lost vanilla containers somehow. Can't find them in any menu. However, the vanilla containers I built are still there, so they haven't been removed.

The most useful mods I've added recently are "disable minuteman radiant quests" and "shut up Preston". Brilliant mods. I got sick of settlers telling me they were being harassed by raiders. Every time I went to Sanctuary, it happened. 15 people in full combat armour with 140+ damage guns inside a walled fortress with >500 defence being harrassed by a handful of raiders with pipe guns. Hopefully the mods will stop that. They've certainly stopped Preston and his endless stream of silly quests.

And I still haven't found a clean bath.

But anyway...as far as I know, updating mods doesn't cause problems. However, if you're not having problems now maybe you're better off not bothering. It would probably be a good idea to back up your saved games anyway, just in case.

I'm pretty sure 1.3 stops the radiant quest system now anyway, so you have to go up to PG and ask for a new question or something.

What are the FPS issues like, all gone now? Game had patches?

The game has had 3 patches, which amongst other things addressed some performance issues.

I had some performance issues in some very open, very high areas (e.g. Corvega plant roof). I found that the texture optimisation project mod dealt with them well enough and the only drawback is visibly lower quality textures if I point a scoped gun at the ground and use the scope. It appears that the vanilla use of textures is somewhat inefficient. It's a useful mod to try if you're having any performance issues and if you don't like it it uninstalls cleanly.

I'm using a Radeon 7950 at stock speeds but with increased allowed power draw (which reduces throttling and increased performance more than the maximum stable overclock at stock power draw).

Had another play with the latest ENB's and it seems they have improved a lot and so bringing the graphics up to Skyrim standard.

This is a mix of Cinematic Excellence ENB and Vogue ENB.

Really blown away with how the game looks now.

It definitely will help. Seems to run most of the time at the 60 fps cap and drop into the late 50's now and again, this is at 1440p.
I'm sure a 970/980 would be ok. There is also the ENB boost which is supposed to help framerate.

I've zipped up my tweaked version of the mod(s) that can be easily installed by dropping into your fallout 4 folder. Pm me if you want the Dropbox link.

I still see FPS in the high 20s at times, even with the 980Ti at 1080p... :/

The gun models are really poor in this game. I downloaded 27 gun mods today from nexus and theres only one or two that look half decent and even they are not great when compared with other games.

Probably in built up city areas. That sounds like the buggy shadows which murder CPUs. Try setting shadow distance to low and quality to high. Unfortunately you will notice shadow pop in but at least it will run nice. Possibly reduce God rays to low also, doesn't look much different.
