**** Official Fallout 4 Thread ****

There is a perk iirc called "Scrapper", or something along those lines. LEt's you break things down into components and salvage them for crafting. So basically you want to hoover up everything in sight, break down into core components/ingredients, and then store them at base camp ready for later use.

I've just been taking them to workbenches, scrapping them, then storing the output in toolboxes near the workbenches, this seems to give all the workbenches access to the resources.

I seeeeeee, how do I know it's my home base? I came across the petrol station and looted the cave under it (those that read terminals would have noted of this :p)

Running like butter on my i5 [email protected] with 970 latest drivers.
60 fps 1080 on ultra Godrays high and motion blur off.

Played 4hrs only just got to the first town as i was in the truck stop messing about with crafting lol.Loving the tagging system for crafting.

Good to see Bethesda haven't lost their sense of humour.

Upstairs in the bar in Concord are 3 mannequins holding swords standing round a headless skeleton in a bath, the skull is in the toilet next to it.And a skeleton in bed with a another mannequin. They had fun before the bomb dropped lol.

How do I know the boundaries of my settlement at sanctuary? How far away can you build stuff and the minuteman and his people still call it home? Quite like the idea of using the petrol station down the road.

When you go in settlement mode there's a green highlight around sanctuary. Basically it's the river is as far as you can build. But then that's a wide area to defend so might want to keep it smaller.

The petrol station is it's own area. I wonder if you can put a recruitment tower down there and have settlers turn up? that would be cool although I doubt it.

The female voice actor is so much better in my opinion, they way she delivers lines compare the the standard default male, plus she's probably got some more experience under her belt (I remember the voice from Mass Effect 2! ;))

I've only played an hour on my own personal copy now compared to a review version, but I think I'm already gonna restart again :p I really wanted to try out a melee focused build specialising in Luck and agility to dodge bullets and get those critical strikes, but Fallout being Fallout, I'm unfortunately missing out on a lot of uncrackable safes due to low lock picking skill, hacking terminals, etc.

I really do like the base building though. Pro tip - you can actually build on top of the "Red Rocket" gas station, you just have to build a ladder to get up there. Now I've made a huge tower overlooking the whole surrounding wasteland, and a dog kennel of course :p

Thank you so much I'm going to go with the female voice actor when I start tonight :)

Oh by the way any steam keys for under £20 yet? It's this and tomb raider or the mikkeller craft beer 24 beer calendar from Denmark lol I can't decide games or beer.

Thanks just seen the green barrier. Yeah it's a huge area then, don't know where to start :o

So far - 8/10.

Good game. Really crap rpg. I thought the first few hours were a very poor set up, but once you go off on your own it improves.

Slightly improved from Fallout 3 for me so far.

how are you guys finding the performance? I'm not sure whether to go for the pc or ps4 version. I still have my old crossfire 6950's on pc and play at 1440p so i guess I would need to upgrade...

Yeah I thought the pacing towards the beginning was awful, quite embarrassing on their part imo. They must have shoved in the typical "War never changes." line at least 3 or 4 times during the introduction. Then you have the pre-war segment, which although cool to experience and has the potentially to be an emotional experience, never fully realises its potential and ends itself quite abruptly. What's worse is that you're then quickly thrust into a full on combat scenario where they throw everything Fallout related at you; Power Armour, Deathclaws, AMERICA! As if they were trying to show off to all the more casual fans how "cool" Fallout is, instead of trying to craft a genuine progressive experience.

RPG as in long tedious story and intricate boring dialogue or RPG as in levelling, stats and skills. :p

Unpacked this morning and quickly skipped the intro to check on the FOV before I headed off for work... bleugh... have upped that a bit right away, and disabled mouse acceleration and console blur... FPS seemed to be locked to 60 although I don't recall seeing Vsync in the options - so might unlock it in the .ini later and apply a cap of 90 or something in Nvidia settings (I think, to avoid the bug people are talking about)

On a GTX970 and 4770k - it detected all ultra I think except for godrays on high maybe... disabled motion blur and will probably bump godrays down one more level and drop shadows from ultra to high (that seems to be a decent performance/visual balance in most Beth games in the past)

I recommend you go install fallout 3 and then see if you feel the same.

You sure you playing at 4K? I mean I agree at night the game does not look that good, but day time there is a huge difference to fallout 3. It's like night and day... :p:D

Maybe something wrong with your system though, as I am running it crossfire disabled so basically on a 290X at 4K and it works fine. No bugs or crashes yet and I played until I got to level 7 yesterday.

Only think I have on low is god rays aka gimpworks which makes little to no difference to graphics anyway. Also depth of field and motion blur, but those don't really make a difference to graphics, just weird settings developers like.
Interiors look very washed out dull in places due to the default filters being used by Bethesda. I see someone already did a sweetfx profile its not just me saying this but that needs tweaking some more I guess.

What framerates are you getting? If it's a steady 60fps most of the time I may consider picking this up earlier than intended

Just about to head back in, will get some numbers for you.

I was playing on the sofa with my gf next to me (also a gamer) and when the robot dude said 'Chris' for the first time, we both looked at each other in confusion lol. Such a simple yet effective touch!

Not had a single bug, trees look amazing, eery and dead.

Even though I knew it was coming, to have it delivered in such a smooth and "as it happens" kind of fashion was awesome.

Me either, impressed with it overall. It looks awesome already, and that's with minimal tweaking.

Yeah that is exactly what I thought... You had to work your ass off for Power Armour in previous games!
