Added to the OP

I can't say that the "hard finish" bothered me much in F3, I was quite happy to load a previous save, plus the issue went away when I purchased Broken Steel.

Hopefully the enemies will scale with an ever increasing level. I always find i become invincible before long in Fallout games.

I haven't played Oblivion but in Skyrim, FO3 and NV I was invincible half way through the game, which made further levelling and perks pointless as I didn't need any of them.
