Concrete floor blocks work much better ;)

...and allow you to put turrets on top.

Yes, but they also take up substantially more space, both in terms of width and their contribution to the "Size" of a settlement.

They implemented the fences, why not make them usable? :D

Regarding sentry bots, they're easy enough - I've only met three but not once have I had power armour on me (Sods law)... just use cover, wait for them to overheat and then take the fusion cores out of them. Alternatively, 3-4 shots with a charged Gauss rifle (and rank three of the rifle perk) will see them off.

I'm looking at FO4 now I've finished Witcher 3 but the base building bit seems like a lot of hassle to me. Is it really necessary?

Oh man after tw3 this will look bad!! Lol. But the gameplay is fun, not as good as NV but alas. Anyway, I dislike the building as well so did only one and it's fine.

Currently walking from the glowing sea to sanctuary and man I get distracted along the way, finding locations, enemies, power armor. Been at it for hours and only halve way there ha ha.

In that case, there is a mod to help them slot together better. Stacked concrete walls still look better imo :)

Actually, all I place now is a single triple tower at the centre of each settlement with missile turrets :)

Ah makes sense. I didn't realise they were over heating. I was too busy trying to put distance between it and myself ha. I finished it off with a quad launcher and shot gun.

Yep, the overheating things is when they steam and you can hear an escape of gas - run round the back of them and you'll see the fusion cores exposed. Pinch them :) Of course you need to stay quite close, as that period doesn't last very long.

Another general tip regarding fusion cores, if you're good with a rifle, you can actually shoot the fusion core - works best with NPCs wearing power armour suits - they explode and force the NPC out, if it doesn't kill them.

Awesome, thanks. I did not know NPCs (raiders etc) in PA could exit them. I thought they were just like an elite mook enemy - I had no idea there were quipping PA like we do. I knew the cores could be nicked to disable their armour, does this make them exit too?

Assaultrons are a PITA, that death ray blast is a shocker. Proper zaps you.

I fast travelled to the mid eastern peninsular near the army blockade last night, got my butt handed to me by one. Previous to that had just witness a battle between Gunners, Raiders, Super Mutants and the Brotherhood up near the police station. Carnage, bits everywhere. :D

Also found the Mayoral Bunker last night on the way to the quest to tie off Nick's plot, holy surprise Deathclaw in your face at the end. Fortunately had taken a suit of T60b with me with a minigun. Does anyone know if the Institute appearing was a random event, or is that part of what happens at the bunker? I assumed as I was heading further south that they would be more prevalent. Must have been about 10-12 of them in the end.

Yup... had my first encounter with one in

Quincy Police Station

Assaultron Dominator... lets just say I wasn't prepared the first time, so I geared up and went back to say hi (with varied results :p)...

Pretty sure the video doesn't contain spoilers, but watch at your own risk:

Thats the exact one I am taking about. Was just idling about reloading after a battle, then see my health dropping massively. Bare in mind I have in excess of 1000 health and this was when I was around level 90 so was in shock.

Could not even see the guy as it was dark and it was clocked. tried locking it with VATS also but vats does not lock on to cloaked targets. Alas was left with under 200 health after that

That minigun doesn't seem to be doing much for you. Especially in the last run, it didn't do any damage.

I finished it last night. Very disappointing ending, which was made even more disappointing by the faction I rolled with

in my bid to complete as much as possible before running with BoS in the final hurdle, I inadvertently failed their missions by getting minutemen involved.

Must have missed it there, didn't see it. I'm only around level 34/35 though. Noted for future excursions though!

DLC makes everything better. :D

That's probably because I'm not hitting it! Stealth *******! :p

The first hit I get in VATS takes a decent chunk off, but after that I'm just randomly spraying in its general direction, hoping (and failing) to get lucky :D

Assaultrons are (IMHO) way OP particularly when you encounter them at lower player levels. I've yet to find a decent weapon or combination of weapons that can stop or slow them down sufficiently to prevent their devastating attack. Shooting arms doesn't seem to stop the weapons. Shooting legs doesn't slow them down. Complete nightmare and best policy is unless they are right near where you need to be, run away and find a different approach.

If one element of the game needs to be nerfed in the player's favour, it's these guys.

To be fair it's not the worst thing, Deathclaws aren't exactly terrifying in this iteration of the series. Particularly if you've got power armour on. Good to have a ridiculously powerful enemy to be terrified of. :D
