**** Official Fallout 4 Thread ****

Assaultrons are (IMHO) way OP particularly when you encounter them at lower player levels. I've yet to find a decent weapon or combination of weapons that can stop or slow them down sufficiently to prevent their devastating attack. Shooting arms doesn't seem to stop the weapons. Shooting legs doesn't slow them down. Complete nightmare and best policy is unless they are right near where you need to be, run away and find a different approach.

If one element of the game needs to be nerfed in the player's favour, it's these guys.

I disagree - it's nice that there's at least one enemy that takes a bit more thought/prep and can't be easily killed just by sneaking and 1-shotting, or running in and emptying a couple of mags into their face :p

Also:

You can see from my video above, pulse/electric damage takes them out pretty easily

Awesome, thanks. I did not know NPCs (raiders etc) in PA could exit them. I thought they were just like an elite mook enemy - I had no idea there were quipping PA like we do. I knew the cores could be nicked to disable their armour, does this make them exit too?

Correct :) You can then steal their suit and frag them - talk about kicking a man whilst he's down.

To be fair it's not the worst thing, Deathclaws aren't exactly terrifying in this iteration of the series. Particularly if you've got power armour on. Good to have a ridiculously powerful enemy to be terrified of. :D

This. IMO there is a real lack of strong enemies in this game. Only when they are in packs really do things get fun again. Nothing quiet like back in fallout 3 with Supermutant Overlords, Feral Ghoul Reavers or even those swamp men in point lookout (these latter ones being totally ridiculous and unexpected)

I don't know, I've hit a few Mirelurk Queens now and they're terrifying!

I'm level 25 and so far I only came across 2 or 3 assaultrons and can't say they caused me much trouble. 1 of them I killed way before he got anywhere near me. The first one was a bit harder and almost killed me.

Also last 2 deathclaws I met were bit of a disappointment. Flying insects causing me way more trouble than these "tough" guys. :)

Watch out for the one at the Institute ( Wont say where ), not only does it run at you, but it explodes right after too, killing you if too close

I just had a pop at that assaultron - the fast travel to that place spawned me right in it's face. Downed it with about 20% health lost, while under fire by a squad of gunners at the same time. I'm level 57 atm. I guess it's my build.

Haven't had any issues with a mob since mid 20's, which is when I turned up the difficulty to Survivor. The exception being those with a fatman or missile launcher, and then I'd just pop Buffjet and melt them.

5 points in rifles and most things die to 2 headshots (Legendary & Gunners being the exceptions). I've been using a mix of the Righteous Authority, and a stagger inducing Assault Rifle. If I use the Gauss Rifle, even Gunner Seargents die in 1 fully charged blast.

IDK how I end up this way with Bethesda games. I had zero difficulty with FO3 after megaton, and in Skyrim I one shotted things with dual fireballs. I end up just going through the motions which makes for a very boring game.

Fighting against the Institute at the Castle/Mass Fusion building, I was getting absolutely pounded from all sides, but I was taking damage very slowly. Just had to pop a stimpack every now and then.

I was lvl 27 at the time, with a stealth build :p

That's my excuse for sucking, and I'm sticking to it! :p

Aww man, just got my 1440p monitor, from a 1080p and my frame rates have tanked outside! From 75fps all the time, to 40-60 :(

Toughest battle for me was a legendary sentry bot. :)

Rarely had any need to use the power armour. Imo there should have been more tougher/unique/legendary battles.

Just had to abuse the 'setownership' command. Snook into a raider base, and knifed a few raiders without being spotted. Spotted a dude in raider PA, so I pick pocketed his fusion core. He jumped out, and I shot him. His PA was still marked as his so instead of entering it, I was stealing it. Now, every time I enter the PA frame or take the bits off it, it's classing it as stealing. I did it in Sanctuary and I got loads of dislikes and hates for it. I just dropped all the items, clicked on each one and used 'setownership' to make them mine. Is this a glitch or did I do it wrong? How come I was stealing it? Was it because I hadn't cleared the camp first?

Had a fair bit of trouble taking on Swan with my melee build.

After continuous deaths, I finally remembered I had a suit of power armour sitting at home, never used the thing at all with my range build. :o

In my newly painted army power armour, armed with my trusty tire iron and jacked up on as many drugs as my veins would allow, I finally managed to beat him. :D

Yes, but they also take up substantially more space, both in terms of width and their contribution to the "Size" of a settlement.

They implemented the fences, why not make them usable? :D
[..]

Here's a possible workaround that makes little sense but works in the gameworld:

1) Use anything that creates a flat, straight edge on the ground. The "shack foundation" concrete blocks can work well because they clip through the ground.

2) Snap the fence sections to the blocks (or floor segments or whatever you used).

3) Remove the blocks (either scrap or put in workshop).

The fences will stay where you put them, snapped together. The main drawback is that there might be a gap between them and the ground.

You might also be able to get away with laying one foundation section, snapping a fence section to that and then snapping other fence sections to the first fence section. I haven't tried it with fences but it definitely works with walls.

As for the settlement size, that can be easily changed from the console without even needing to install mods. I used these batch files:

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/818/?

You just stick the batch files in your FO4 directory, select a settlement workshop while in the console and run the batch file ("bat settlement" to increase the limit and "bat lowersettlement" to return it to default). You could do it directly with console commands - the batch files are just for convenience. I've found that the increased settlement size appears to be far more than 3x because the size bars in the settlements I've used it in never fill at all regardless of how much I build.

I've encountered (and fixed) an odd bug. I'll mention it here in case it happens to anyone else.

After quite some time playing without issues other than the expected glitches such as brahmin somehow getting onto and stuck in roofs, I started getting quite frequent freezes. I had to use task manager to kill the process and then FO4 wouldn't work until after a reboot. This was just after the first patch and using the console to increase the settlement size in some settlements, so I thought one of those might be the cause.

Looking around, I stumbled onto a related post somewhere (I forget where) about saved games. So I moved most of my saved games into a backup folder...and the problem was solved. I have no idea why it worked.

Even if you clear every raider in 10 miles it's still flagged as owned. Bit of an oversight imo and one I have no problem using the console to fix.
