**** Official Fallout 4 Thread ****

It is not similar to The Witcher 3 discussion at all. With TW3, the issue was that the final product did not look as good as one that was previously shown in order to generate hype. From what I have seen, nobody is suggesting Fallout's graphics have been downgraded, just that they are not that great to begin with(I haven't paid any attention to the graphics tbh). If anything, Fallout is learning from TW3 by not showing massively exaggerated graphics before release. This is a good thing and should be seen as a positive.

Seen the leaked PC shots, not at all impressed. Yes I like graphics over story etc. Maybe when graphics mods come out then maybe. I use to like New Vegas but just got bored so quick. Hoping this can refresh my liking in it as it's a popular game.

Let me get this straight, you played New Vegas but found it boring, you don't want to play this just yet as the graphics are not good enough. The only reason you want to play this game is because lots of others seem to like it?

I just cancelled my pre-order for the pipboy edition after seeing the unboxing video. That's what you get when you let the hype win! Sticking to the normal version instead.

Looks fine to me.

Problem is with people thinking its going to be metal with all electrical pieces like its the real thing. 90% of collectors editions are plastic replica's of ingame items, one of the COD ones is pretty much plastic and foam (bit of a disappointment).

What was the problem with the pipboy edition?

Personally I think I would have gone ahead with that order and sold it for a profit.

Well I wasn't expecting it to be amazing, with metal and wires and all, I just wasn't expecting it to be some weird cheap glossy plastic. Was hoping it would have a matte effect on it at least!

The other issue is that since it's only GAME that are doing it, I have to have it shipped to the Channel Islands, which would take forever and a day before I get to play it.

If I start seeing them go for anything more than £100 on eBay then I might start kicking myself. But really I just want to play the game on release!

Wait 6 months and it will probably be a lot cheaper than £100 I would imagine. People will realise its taking up space and want rid.

Devs and publishers can't win then surely?

People complained that the Witcher 3 promos were better looking than the finished product.

People here are complaining the graphics aren't cutting edge enough.

And the witcher 'downgrade' furore did go away as soon as people started playing it.

Now people are saying they will wait for modders to create texture packs and better animations for Fallout 4 before they play....those aren't things that will make the gameplay better though.

And look at Skyrim - some people just can't get on and enjoy it, they spent hours researching and installing graphical and other mods and can't appreciate the game for what it is

(That's not a great example as I personally thought Skyrim was joyless busy work)

Fallout 3 does use a different graphics engine to Skyrim, but clearly shares certain elements...

Fallout 3 is 'Gamebyro Engine'
Skyrim is 'Creation Engine'

But look at the two and you can see lots of common elements. Things like animations are similar - sitting down etc.

Indeed. You can't please everyone. The way Bethesda have done it is far preferable though. They should get credit in an age where devs seem to release so called 'bullshots' before release that they have simply shown the game as it is... If you don't like the graphics fair enough, but Bethesda never claimed they would be amazing, and never showed the game looking better than you can obtain in-game.

Personally I'm not bothered about graphics so long as they have reached a certain level and pretty much all modern games look at the very least good enough for me.

The only thing I'm slightly worried about with fo4 graphics is it seems a bit bright and colourful in some videos. Not sure the atmosphere created will be brilliant. I'll know when I play it though I suppose.

No, nobody is saying the developer has lied about the graphics, they're just saying the graphics don't look to have progressed since the last game.

In regards to The Witcher 3, people were complaining that the developer lied and made the graphics look a lot better to entice people to buy the game before they released what the actual game looked like.

2 completely different issues.
