**** Official Fallout 4 Thread ****

Actually if you read the full quote, it includes:

So using a VPN to unlock a game earlier would probably come under "circumventing geographical restrictions" and definitely under "any other purpose" and they could ban your account for it. Of course could doesn't necessarily mean would ;)
They would have to be really pedantic to ban you for getting a game 12 hours early. I would imagine that snippet refers more to people accessing content not meant for their region e.g. Nazi stuff in Germany, blood n gorey games banned in oz

This is what it will mean. Some cuts of games are illegal to sell in some countries, hence some uncut versions being locked from purchase if you live in a country with such a law.

Oh I agree completely, however if they wanted to (unlikely) it would be completely within their T&Cs to ban you for using a VPN to unlock the game early

They are likely to ban people that try to get games cheaper etc not for unlocking, just make sure you stay in offline mode and by 12am it won't mean **** anyway

Ah yes, Valve definitely won't be able to track anything you're doing whilst offline! You're totally invisible to everyone including their servers when you use that option!

Valve have banned for far lesser things in the past. If you're breaking their terms by doing something, it's probably best not to do it in the first place because regardless of whether you think it a small thing or not, you're still breaking their terms. Why risk it?

Do you really think Valve are going to ban thousands of people who legitimately bought the game just because they want to play 11 hours early? There would be a huge backlash

I have a Pipboy edition pre ordered from GAME, I hope that it turns up today! If it doesn't I'm tempted to just buy the game unlock it early and then sell the code for Fallout when it comes -.-

A backlash because those people broke their terms and conditions? I'm not saying Valve would do it, but you're breaching their terms and conditions by circumventing their system and unlocking the game early. It's a risk and I don't think that risking your entire Steam library just to play a game 12 hours early is worth it. I don't understand why people are so impatient these days. What you as a person thinks might happen, and what Valve can potentially do, are two different things. You'll probably find that there's something else in their terms that allow them to terminate your account for whatever reason they deem appropriate.

Tempted to buy this from Instant Gaming for £28. Trouble is with steam etc. now though, is that I'm only on 17Mbps at my girlfriend's so downloading it is going to take an age!

The terms and conditions you keep mentioning wouldn't hold up in court as a basis for banning your account, and they know this.

The fact that it's in their terms and conditions largely irrelevant. Terms and conditions don't trump law, or if they contain clauses that are wholly unfair or inappropriate, they are void.

Would they just ban though? I imagine they would first offer a warning, rather than just completely cut people off.

I have done it in the past but was slightly hesitant.

I managed to download the game at 5mb, left it downloading over night. Go out with your girlfriend, by the time you come back the download should be finish.

That's sadly only relevant if you have the time, resources and desire to take it to court. Which you may, I don't know. I'm 90% sure VPN unlocking will be consequence-free, but it's still a risk.

Hah i have 500kb/s download, Started the download at 11 last night still 4hours togo. I am sure you will have it before midnight.

Steam says the game will unlock around 2am for me, does it give an accurate count or an estimate, a midnight launch i could handle but i'll be too tired at 2 in the morning!

It will start unlocking around 2am I believe. Not sure how long it'll take to decrypt though...
