Guys never played a fallout game before, is this easy to pickup as i go along, or do i need a walkthrough ? cheers

What kind of gamer are you? There's a lot of stuff to find and explore so you might find yourselve reaching for a guide if you're worried you might be missing stuff etc.

I generally want to get everything but I don't like spoiling every new area and parts of the story by constantly looking up stuff... so what I tend to do is play spontaneously through areas and then sometimes check a guide before moving on in case there was anything that I missed

Its relatively easy to pick, at least the core of the game is. Some mechanics such as the settlement building, recycling junk and those sort of things are a bit ambiguous and not explained in detail, but by now plenty of videos, guides and walk through out which should help.

Few mods installed and working, looking pretty.. green I shall say! Will post a pic in a sec. 4K is running smoother than before at 1440p, what wizardry is this?

If you use a walkthrough then you may as well not even play it. Its all about exploring and adventuring into the great unknown. You have just emerged from a vault after 200 years after all. Its very easy to pickup if you take your time.

There are some useful little articles about that tell you things you could have missed and handy hints and tips. But a full walkthrough would ruin it for me. Plus you might want to just read up about the perk system as that is quite confusing, even for veteran players.

Never used a walkthrough before, but reading about the past fallout games they seem massive, and as someone that never played them before, i think i may need some help, but i love exploring etc, so will just play without any help, and if then get stuck will readup on it, but there is no help at all like a manual, so i dont know how anyone would know what to do really. thx

Might be a good idea to find a beginners guide that explains the basics, i.e the pipboy and perk system. Plus you can always ask in here if you need any help.

On the subject of weapons, I have a good idea for a mod! may have been in F3/NV not sure. Basically the ability to add/remove a scope and supressor on the fly. I tried one of the scopes and it totally ruins your medium range in my opinion. It would be great to be able to have a rifle that you add/remove the scope and or supressor to suit your needs and it also pretty reaistic and they are just bolt on/ screw on mods to a real gun right?

Don't think I could play with just one weapon. I carry 7 or 8 with me :) 1 melee (for the bloody flies, I die in pretty much each encounter with them and have to reload and try another approach), suppressed 10mm pistol, laser rifle from BOS, 2 sniper rifles, 1 with night vision scope on it and 2 automatic rifles
I might reduce it a bit now that I have plenty of ammo for each.

The flies are a bother, but I deal with them by either using VATS or spraying bullets in their general direction. It only requires one hit, so if I fire half a dozen at them that does the job.

I have plenty of ammunition for the rifle, so I don't need to switch weapons just to use different ammo.

The rifle works well as a sniper rifle because of the long scope.

Night vision isn't necessary for me because I haven't encountered any completely pitch black areas. Besides, I could put a long night vision scope on it if that was useful.

I don't need an automatic weapon because I prefer accuracy and damage over bullet count (automatic weapons do far less damage per bullet) except for those annoying flies.

I've tried other weapons but they're just not giving me anything over my trusty combat rifle with one exception - the named machinegun "Spray and pray" is brilliant for bloatflies.

Anyone got the Emogen Cabot bug where she doesnt spawn in the house? There is quite a laborious workaround on the steam forums that isn't too clearly verified. Has anyone else gotten around it?

No she spawned in the house, but kept walking around and therefore breaking up conversation.

Yeah STALKER has had this since 2007! Would be mint, and I can't really see it being terribly difficult to do. I wouldn't even be fussed about animations - just a script that removes 'weapon with scope' from inventory, and replace it with 'model without scope', then just add 'scope mod' to inventory.

For the flies and bugs I tend to use a modded Combat Shotgun, it's a nice weapon at close range.

I also have a modded Sniper Rifle for distance work and a Combat Rifle with scope for everything else.

I use grenades a lot, to weaken the enemy before moving in.

All the Legendary stuff I get I bung in a storage chest I made in Sanctuary, it stays in the chest.

I sell everything I dont use, legendary or not. as far as Im concerned the only good Legendary wep upgrade is the Instigating perk - though the Never Ending can be useful sometimes too. Armour wise, unless its adding to my base perks and is combat armour it's gunna get chucked.

Managed to find three sets of power armour (2x T60 and a T45) last night in the space of an hour whilst exploring - consdering I've found a total of three other sets in 50 hours I thought that was quite something!

Weapons are a bit boring, I found myself only using a two shot laser rifle for most of the game. Either two-shot is a horribly OP weapon affix or the guns are just weak.

Automatic weapons seem awful.

using a initiating .308 combat rifle (non auto) or the initiating laser rifle which is maxed with sniper barrel and boost caps stupidly strong vs flesh got a decent pistol for popping ghouls and other low level creatues that i don't want to waste .308 or .50's on but much like NV guns do seem a bit too strong.

found a hunting rifle so early on in nv and i don't think i used a different gun again.

At 135 hours, I'm done. Well worth the price considering the amount of hours I squeezed from it, but I still come away feeling disappointed. The game seems to lack any real depth. I often found myself discovering new locations that in previous games would have likely formed the part of an interesting side quest, only for them to be nothing more than glorified shooting galleries. Additionally, I had hoped that the quests / side quests would be as plentiful as Skyrim, yet for the most part I found myself with only 5/6 active quests in my log.
Ah well, until next time.
