**** Official Fallout 4 Thread ****

So you saying maybe i should start my first fallout play through without the Automation dlc activated ?

Well they only start showing up once you actually start the Automatron quest, so it will be ok so long as you leave that for a bit. Not sure if they stop once you complete the dlc quest does anyone know?

Ah thats good, i thought when you add the dlc its just mixed in to the game, did not know you have to start in as a quest, is that also the same for the Far harbour and Wasteland workshop dlc also, cheers

Yes once you reach a certain level you will get a new radio frequency to tune to which will start the dlc quest. When you answer the distress call the dlc begins. Not sure about wasteland workshop tbh. I think it is just integrated in to the game. Not sure there are any quest involved.

Got to say, after playing for 30 hours now on this playthrough I am totally engrossed again. The role playing might have been completely gutted, but there is nothing like a fallout/elder scrolls game when you get in to them. Mods for settlements that improve the way settlers interact and give you more to build give the game another layer of complexity and make the game really quite deep in that regard... The atmosphere that the game creates is excellent, especially with some lighting/texture mods(I'm using one that improves the grass, and adds a little but not too much that is particularly good). The real star is Survival mode though. It pushes the game to another level(with a few tweaks). Next I'm going to try a mod that removes the awful player voice. The game would be so much better without it.

It is a shame I have had to ignore the main story... But tbh, it isn't actually that hard to, which is a plus for me. The main quest would actuully be quite easily salvageable imo if you removed most of the references to the main character looking for his son.

Wasteland workshop goes straight in, but all it adds is some things to build in settlements and concrete shipments at many vendors. It has no effect on the game other than those things.

I haven't installed Far Harbour yet (I play in offline mode) because I've been too busy developing County Crossing into a thriving market town and the new concrete stuff added in Wasteland Workshop is even more of a pain to work with than the vanilla building items. It's 10% deciding what you want to build and 90% trying to get the rubbish tacked-on afterthought of building to do what you want it to do. You want to put a floor segment there? Hard luck. You'll have to remove the wall sections first, or else the floor will protrude into the next square. Maybe the wall sections will go back in afterwards, maybe not. Maybe they'll snap where you want, eventually, if you approach at the right angle and move the section with a level of care usually reserved for brain surgery. Maybe they won't. Maybe you'll say "to hell with it" and build it all from wood despite the lack of realism in a 10-storey building constructed solely from wooden panels and the shortage of wood (in a land full of trees? Seriously?).

Was turning in a quest and it turns out that the chap was so grateful that he let me keep the quest item in question. So, I had to try it out and liking it, although no protection what so ever, it looks good with my outfit and probally gonna keep wearing it.

The quest item was the hat, or more precisely Grandpa Savoldi's Hat. The outfit I'm wearing is Scavenged NCR Armor by L0rd0fWar and Wearable Backpacks & Pouches by Aldebaran90 and Stndmunki. If anyone wondering. :p

Once that was done I was to lazy to walk from Bunker Hill to The Castle, so I decided to fast travel there. That decision almost cost me my life though, because I was not prepared for what happened next ! I arrived at my travel point, which I moved into one of the large corner room's in the Castle and was greeted by something unexpected !

In case you can't read the name of the beast, it is called: Ancient Mutant Junkie Deathclaw ! And it was one pumped up junkie as well, had to reload like 4 times before it was dead, if I didn't have the small entrance down to the basement in that room, I'm not sure if I survived. Had to pop down there and heal, even with Nick and some settlers there shooting at it as well ! The beast been busy though, check out this loot !

When I saw what kind of loot it was, I realized this beast was a surprise from the Author of this mod: Wasteland Survival Guide - Hidden Commonwealth Delicacies by DeathclawAlpha. A mod I posted about in the mod thread a couple days ago, and had downloaded just for fun and giggles ! :p

I started wearing that hat yesterday too!...It was the last quest I did last night. It is identical to the Militia hat though.

Your character doesn't look too different to mine tbh. Same hat and glasses, but I've got Kellog's armour with a survival bag and a mix of leather/metal accessories.

Ahh didn't know the Milita hat was similar, probably because anyone I seen wearing one I not looked close enough. It wasn't until I tried it and had a look at myself wearing it that I liked it. Never thought of checking Kellog's armour out, might have a peek and see how it looks. although, liking the NCR since it has the holsters you can equip, pure decoration though, but it looks good ! :p

Spark has been reingnited in this for me. Loving playing with a VATS build. Lazy (don't need to aim) and very powerful. All the perks work together nicely for near endless AP and regular criticals.

I had to dial back some of the spawns in the war of the commonwealth mod..it was just too chaotic!

I got trapped attacked by a huge group of gunners (2 of them legendaries) complete with combat droid backup. I had to retreat inside an old trailer where they could only get in one at time and the combat droid didnt fit...but then the gunners got attacked by some rust devils and it all went south from there!!

spawn frequency was too much as well so changed that to a more sensible level

its still bedlam at some points as different factions bump up against each other

its also dangerous as until you meet and talk to some factions they are still hostile..so a group of railroad agents attacked me as I have not started their quest line yet...same with BoS..they showed as hostile until I had done the cambridge police station mission

even at level 40 its way to easy to die unexpectedly as you rile up about 3 spawn loads of ghouls then stumble into raiders as to try to flee!

Just finished main story mission - only took me 120 hours over a year or so! :P Now onto the DLC

I was about to post 'it's only been out a few months' but wow, it's been out almost a year. Jesus Christ it felt like this only came out a few months ago. Next thing I know I'll be in a nursing home crapping my pants over a game of checkers.

Anyone got any tips for survival mode? I started a new game and all was going well until the raiders at the beginning, 2 shots and I was dead, back to the Vault I go :D

Have you read anything anyone has been saying in this thread about performance?

Quite a lot of the game is cpu dependent, so with your 5960 I doubt you'd notice.

Umm, Neil has a i7 4790K OC'd, you think theres any difference between that and a 5960? 5% more gaming power isn't going to give one person smooth gameplay and another FPS drops lol

EDIT: Oh wow that double post :o

Take the Toughness perk asap!
Carry empty bottles with you and fill them up from water pumps.
As carry weight is more important, just stick with one or two guns and don't pick up anything unneeded.
A personal tip- I have found the lone wanderer perks pretty great on survival.... The ones that improve your DR and carry weight if you don't have a companion. It especially as dogmeat doesn't count.
Also, there is a mod that gives you wearable backpacks that are pretty good for survival.

Tbh I don't think survival is especially hard, I just think it is different. You can be killed easier but you also kill easier. It makes combat much better imo and greatly improves the game.

PS. Also Check out the post from the Swede earlier with some tweaks for survival. And I can highly recommend the mod survival saving - holotapes save the game. It is how the game should have been to start with.

Cheers mate, only issue seems to be dying in a few hits. I get that you kill them faster too, but 1v3 against little noob raiders who take 4 pistol shots each and kill me in 2 shots is a lil hard. :D

Will check that mod out, reminds me of resident evil with the ink ribbons

EDIT: Oh it's not what I thought it was. Finding hollotapes in the wild that you can consume to save the game would be amazing, but it's just a toggle?

That is exactly what it is like!... Earlier on I stopped at a settlement to save the game at a bed then went to clear out Corvega assembly plant. I sneaked all the way through stealth killing everyone without being seen. Then I got to the big room with a few legendary enemies in it.. I'm thinking ****, that is half an hour gone now! Then I went over to a desk and inside was a recordable holotape :D
They are spread inside containers with a chance for them to spawn. You can go ages without picking one up(especially I find when you also have the Brotherhood technical documents spawning in containers) or there might be a dungeon with 2 or 3 in it. It works really well.

I upgraded the pistol perk and found I was one or two shotting most raiders quite early tbh, though now at level 35 they are a bit tougher. I am geared to end fights quickly though, with all sneak, pistol and sandman perks, so I can kill most things from the shadows quite quickly.

That sound's amazing  was really bored with the base game but holotape mod + survival seems like one hell of an upgrade.

Not modded Fallout, does it need a script extender or anything? I've literally just installed backpack and holotape mods, only 2 non vanilla esps installed.

No script extender or anything atm.

Also, I am finding Dogmeat really useful on Survival, and actually a really good companion. He doesn't effect the Lone Wanderer perks, so you get the bonuses from that, and I have also upgraded his perks, and I find them to really complement Survival. On survival it is very important not to let enemies rush you, as there are lots of enemies that you barely think about in the normal game that can kill you in one or two shots, and if a Feral Ghoul reaver for example gets close and starts hitting you, you're a gonner...but with Dogmeat upgraded so he can hold opponents and even cripple them, he can really save your life and make crowd control much easier, which is a godsend on survival!

I am using the mod that allows you to have one companion plus dogmeat, though I don't really make use of it, as I prefer the bonuses for going out your own! Apparently it was intended that Dogmeat be an extra companion, but they scrapped the idea.
